Celebrate Thanksgiving by slaughtering turkeys

But don't let all this endgame stuff get in the way of the one true important achievement in Wrath.
Friend or Fowl.
After you've eaten your turkey dinner and said goodbye to the family, take some time and go kill 15 turkeys in under 3 minutes.
The best spot to become the harbinger of turkey death is in the Howling Fjord around 69, 65. This is up the western road from the Explorers' League Outpost, and south of Nifflevar. You'll notice a large rock with some turkeys on it. Kill them and run around the rock killing every turkey you see. It only took me about 45 seconds to get all 15, but I was the only person around at the time. After you've killed your 15 you'll get that special ding and earn the Friend or Fowl achievement.

So celebrate Thanksgiving by slaughtering some turkeys over in the Howling Fjord. And next thing you know WoW Insider will be holding a press conference on a turkey farm. /rimshot

Dont forget that all birds in the immediate vicinity will then attack you for a few seconds (all turkeys, so they dont hurt that much), much like the chickens did in the Legend of Zelda games when you hit them to many times.

As well, every neutral animal before you did it becomes hostile for a few minutes. This includes Shoveltusk Calves and even squirrels.

When I did this at the road the turkeys respawned as soon as I killed one.

I did this quest in Valgarde, just used a macro that target turkeys and cast ice lance, eezey peezey, lemon Squeezey :)
Sarius Nov 27th 2008 6:04PM
For the lazy... here is said macro...
#show Ice Lance
/target Fjord Turkey
/cast Ice Lance
/cleartarget

An even handier macro I used (to avoid re-targeting dead Turkeys):
#showtooltip
/tar [nodead] Fjord Turkey
/cast Ice Lance
/cleartarget
Other classes can of course substitute Ice Lance with the instant no-cooldown spell / ability of their choice.

LoL reference to the Palin interview!

This is a great idea. :D *goes to kill turkeys*

definitely just made a rimshot noise :)

I did this in Valgarde the other day, purely by accident (I was waiting for a group to form).
Laynne Nov 27th 2008 10:30PM
Did this when I was up there the other day. So much fun. I love how they (and other neutral animals) turn hostile afterwards :-D

Americans are American.

The neutral animals turning hostile for a few minutes lasted all day long for me, but it was only in that general area. Every time I rode by that day, I'd aggro a shovletusk or one of those birds flying by. Cool, but a little annoying, as it lasted so long. (6+hrs)
Amaxe Nov 28th 2008 8:05AM
It stayed the same for me until I logged out and back on.
I even had a turkey try to gank me in Stormwind
Hank Nov 28th 2008 5:46AM
The best thing about this is the corpse of the dead tukey is ready-to-eat.
vildor Nov 29th 2008 6:29AM
Are you sure they're properly cooked though? You can't be too careful.... you're going to be popular if you fall victim to a raging bout of the squirts in the middle of the next raid!

A little late to the party I see. I had the idea to go do this before Thanksgiving even started, and recorded a video of it before this article was even posted. :o)
Glad you and the others could join the fun though. I had my Moonkin get the achievement with much fanfare. What better day to get that achievement over with than with a laser turkey on the Thanksgiving after Wrath launches. =D

This is also a great place to do the Critter Gitter achievement (it's under professions, cooking). I'd recommend doing it Before the Friend or Fowl achievement :)

Until you kill the Turkey Onslaught after you gain the achievement, the animals will be hostile to you. My boyfriend and I did this - he did it first (was funny to watch him chase them down, silly pally), but his turkey army didn't come to kill him and everything remained hostile. I ran around casting holy nova and allasudden this army of like 50 turkeys came after me. Vanth nearly died laughing and I holy nova'd them and all the neutrals became unhostile again.
When Vanth logged out and back in later that night, he got attacked by a turkey in Dalaran. I've heard of people getting attacked by turkeys wherever they log back in - Org, Silvermoon, UC, etc. I expect when I log my mage on she will be under attack too ^_^

Strange. I just got the achievement and no one is aggroing. Even the turkeys are ignoring me. x.x
