Phat Loot Phriday: Oracle Talisman of Ablution

Name: Oracle Talisman of Ablution (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type: Epic Trinket
Damage/Speed: N/A
Abilities:
- Improves crit strike rating by 71.
- Restores mana, energy, rage, or runic power when you kill a target that grants honor or XP. That proc look familiar? It should -- it was on the Power-infused Mushroom that probably helped you out right around Zangarmarsh the last expansion. Pretty helpful for leveling -- it's helpful in PvP too, obviously, but the XP add makes this helpful for leveling as well.
- The old trinket gave back about 200 mana (or 20 energy or rage), but we're not exactly sure how much this one gives back. Probably more in terms of mana (since we probably all have bigger mana pools), but you'll probably have to do some testing (or just check the comments below) to find out exactly how much it gives.
- And you probably thought I spelled "Absolution" wrong, but no -- it's actually the Talisman of Ablution, which is the act of cleaning yourself, ritually or for hygenic purposes. And now you know.
Do the quests, go Oracle, and once Exalted you can buy this from Geen, the pretty-looking Oracle above, for 42g 93s 75c.
Getting Rid of it: I still have my Mushroom in the bank, and you'll probably have this in your bank after Northrend as well. In fact, while I'm thinking about it, why have I not been wearing that Mushroom since I first stepped foot in Northrend? Missed opportunity! Vendors will give you 10g 73s 43c if you do want to sell it, and it probably won't disenchant -- nobody's tried yet.

Also of note with these guys is the Egg that you can buy at Revered. After 7 days of sitting in your inventory, you'll be able to open it up to a non-combat pet. However, if you're really lucky, you might get the Green Proto-Drake flying mount.

Now THERE's some phat lewts.

The Frenzyheart Insignia of Fury says it procs of experience, nothing about honor, so its probably meant more for leveling/PvE than PvP like the post notes.
Terethall Nov 28th 2008 5:12PM
"the XP add makes this helpful for leveling as well.".... "it seems meant more for PvP, since XP doesn't proc it."
Lol, wut? XP procs all three of the trinkets you mentioned, the only one that is missing a proc is the Frenzyheart Insignia, which doesn't proc off of HONOR.
Well, either that, or all of the WoW websites are misreporting these trinkets.
Furthermore, even if you're max level, any mob that COULD grant experience will proc all of these trinkets. That is, any mob that is green or higher to your character.

This seems fairly useless at Exalted. I don't think anyone is likely to hit exalted while levelling. At least the mushroom is cheap and easy to get.

Well, when doing dailies, you won't need all the +hit rating you equip when you go raiding. +mana will serve you much better! I always used the power mushroom when doing dailies in tbc. This might serve the same purpose and might very well be worth the gold (the rep is a must, given the awesome pets!)

There was a similar trinket at exalted with the sha'tari skyguard in BC the trinket was giving an AP buff for couple of second after getting a killing blow.
and had a passive Crit rating.

I only used this as a pvp trinket before getting the battlemaster one and in combat like Vash where you had to kill a tone of adds yourself.
Not too much of a phat loot to me...

This item suffers from bad placement. It's in an ending zone compared to a beginning zone. By the time you get it, you are already 80 or very close to 80 (unless you only do Oracle dailies and stop leveling). The most use you will get out of it is 2 levels. It might get some use for the next expansion but more likely we will want trinkets that improve our roles over just a tiny bit of after kills.

Seems like Oracles/Frenzyheart and the Kalu'ak got switched. You gotta be at least 76 to use Honored Kaluak items, when you can get honored or higher by at least level 73. Conversely, Oracles/Frenzyheart are in a level 75+ zone, and their exalted trink requires just 70. At least their revere items require 78, which is still more reasonable than Kalu'ak rep items.

Neither of these are THE BEST trinkets. Proccing after killing blows means that they're not great for grouping (although, depending on the mana regen, an AoE class might get a lot of mileage from swapping in this one before a big pull in a raid) and the XP requirement means that the reason I might want one (finishing old quests and instances that much faster) doesn't apply at all.
Still, if you're hurting for something to fill that trinket slot while you grind out that last quarter of a level until 80, I suppose you could do worse.

Have to agree with the other commenters.
1) Your "PvP" trinket doesn't seem to proc off honorable kills, but does proc off of XP-granting kills. Nice research there.
2) By the time you hit exalted, you'll probably be nearly done leveling, unless you're really slow about it.
This just isn't worth the gold and grind. 71 crit is good for a trinket, but 200 mana at those levels is nothing. Unless you're AoE grinding, you'd do better to just keep going and take a drink as usual.
HMonster Nov 28th 2008 9:06PM
When it says "off a mob that gives exp" it doesnt literally mean you have to actually earn exp. It just means that the mob has to be green or above, so it wont work of critters, or low level mobs.
Same with all trinkets of this nature, only procs of green or above, even if you're level 80.
Michael Nov 28th 2008 9:19PM
I was wondering what the heck everyone was talking about, saying that it doesn't work at 80... Of course it still works at 80! Thank you for pointing that out, HMonster.
I can see this being very helpful for my DK, while reputation grinding at 80.
Balius Nov 29th 2008 1:05AM
There's no grinding mobs for Wrath reputation. It's all through daily quests and instance championing. And these trinkets won't really work for grinding old-world rep, since you need to be able to gain EXP from the kill.
Hoggersbud Nov 28th 2008 9:20PM
The only thing this trinket is really good for is grinding.
Lovecrafter Nov 28th 2008 10:56PM
I have to concur with the other posters. I think this trinket is pointless to get.
Sorry WoWInsider, looks like you gave us some bad advice this time! It's ok though, it happens to even the best of us after a while!
:-D

Sorry I have to agree with Lovecrafter.
Shanic Nov 29th 2008 5:34AM
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
GLORY TO THE BIG TOUNGES!
Philsonator Nov 29th 2008 6:55AM
How about for AoE grinding, is there an internal CD on this?
Otherwise killing 15 mobs at once and each proccing this... /drool
sharkeater75 Nov 29th 2008 7:12AM
garbage.

green quest trinket. superior.
Narziss Jan 23rd 2009 10:26AM
This trinket is amazing. I equipped two of these and I have no downtime whatsoever.
- It restores 5% mana/rage/energy/runic power per kill that yields experience or honor per trinket.
- No internal cooldown.
- Shines when AoE'ing
The Oracles is an awesome faction and you can even get a cute proto-drake whelp or green proto-drake as a reward!
