Spirit is only useful for raids where you are fighting bosses that take 6+ minutes to down and mana begins to be an issue, and you don't have a shadowpriest in your group.. but with water elementals giving us mana back, mana emeralds with 3 charges, evocation... there are so many options for us for mana management.
I think what the author is saying spirit isn't bad... but I'd rather have those stats put more towards pure spell power/crit/haste/int than have a balance of more spirit.
