As far as raiding goes, crit is generally worse than haste. First it seems to cost more than haste per item. While crit is awesome the rule of thumb is Hit -> Damage -> Haste -> Crit.More haste = more cast. - Gemski @ Area 52

That's just not true anymore, Gemski. A talented Frostfire bolt has a 3.15 crit damage coefficient, and just looking at DPS for any reasonable values of crit rating and haste rating, they are almost identical... until you factor in hot streak. That, plus the extra mana efficiency means crit blows haste out of the water. Hit and damage still take precedence, though.

Hrm...guess I need to look into new wrath math then. I've currently been embracing the haste and get 3-3500 dps in mostly heroic gear. I only have 19% crit on gear and roughly 9% haste. Numbers change a bit when i put on more hit. But with Frostfire's cast time I really like haste right now. Thanks for the insight though.

Point for point, I'd say haste is still a stronger DPS stat than crit for all PvE mages. There are lots of caveats and corner situations but it's true. Haste has all the same drawbacks it always did though. Oom sooner, not much use until you have a good chunk of it, etc. Frostfire obviously benefits more (a lot more!) than old builds from crit, bumping its value, but it also has no talents to reduce casting time. As Gemski mentioned, getting off a hasted main nuke helps when you're busy playing a game of Don't Stand in the Fire.Spirit is still a +0 DPS stat. You need just enough to not oom if forced into mage armor and then zero more...ever. My *warlock* gets a nice DPS gain from spirit now and my mage still doesn't.

As far as haste being better it depends on how you look at it. Sure with enough hast you could cast say 20 fireballs in the time it takes you to cast 10. But you will more than twice as fast since it doesnt allow as much CD for gems and evocate. So to meDamage > hit > crit > int > stam > spirit > agility > defense > shield block value > grey items > haste. So you will proably see me in my nice well itemized crit gear from BC for a while but thats fine with me.

That crit gear from bc can't be giving you that much crit at 80...
