From Outland with gems
Dear players,Things are good back here in Nagrand -- though we don't see anyone but Death Knights coming through nowadays, I often think back to a few years ago when I saw so many of you come through leveling up, just as you are now in Northrend. You were so innocent and naive back then -- you really weren't prepared, at level 66 and 67, still not knowing what treachery Illidan might have planned or what treasure the walls of Tempest Keep might hold. Nowadays, the space inside those walls is empty except for the occasional Death Knight group -- my friend Ghabar up in Stormspire says they see even fewer players than we do here.
Even the boys in Halaa say things are slow -- while I'm sure it's a relief not to be under attack every other hour, they come down here to Aeris Landing every once in a while just to pass the time and see what's up. I suppose when the Death Knights are gone, that'll be pretty much the end for us. Oh sure, we'll have the occasional newbie come through (I'll always need Crystal Fragments and Obsidian Warbeads, as long as there are suppliers to buy them -- and there are), but things won't be the same. Maybe I'll even get out of the trading business and take up a profession of my own. I hear Inscription can be fun.
Oh, and by the way, it's the first of the month, so I've got your monthly gems sitting here. You may not need them up in Northrend, with your Lich King and your dragons and whatever else you've discovered up there (have you found any Ethereals yet?). But they're here, just like the rest of us, waiting for you. Sigh.
Yours,
Gezhe at Aeris Landing in Nagrand

Free gems are always worth getting!
Oh, and FIRST.
pudds Dec 1st 2008 3:24PM
No one cares that you were first. No one will ever care. For the love of god, will this trend of idiocy ever stop?
SaintStryfe Dec 1st 2008 3:31PM
People have been calling first since web message boards have started. Complaining about it is worse then the actual act.

@SaintStryfe
No, they haven't. I'm not so bold as to suggest I know when or where the trend started, but its certainly a trend that began in the last 2-3 years or so. More specifically, it's a trend that's made its way over to Wow Insider in the last couple months, and its a trend I'd like to see stop. As far as I'm concerned, public ostracism is the best way to put a stop to it, or at least "encourage" the offenders to avoid repeats.
Perhaps tomorrow I'll be slightly less hostile about it, but today's Monday and I'm tired ;)

Ah, Pudds. 2-3 years ago? The entire readership is laughing at what a newb to the internet you have just proved yourself to be. First posts were rampant on Slashdot probably close to 10 years ago, and I have no illusions that that was were they originated.
But back on topic - ARE free gems always worthwhile? Seriously? You could easily spend 10 minutes travelling to Nagrand and back for a few gems, all completely obsoleted by Northrend greens - which sell for less than 10g a piece on my server, so while I haven't looked at the price of TBC gems lately, it can't be more than a pittance.

THIS CONVERSATION IS STUPID STOP IT NOA

With all due respect, I'm as far from an internet noob as you can get. I will, however, concede the /. point to you, as I've never been an avid reader over there, and when I do head over there, I stay the hell away from the comment cesspool.
Nonetheless, "First" has not been a wide stream trend for that long, and it's one I'd like to see die a horrible death.
SaintStryfe Dec 1st 2008 6:36PM
Thank you for the backup, Claw.
I respectfully disagree. Mainly because 10 gold is 10 gold, given it takes moments to do, I can find no logical reason NOT to.

"Mainly because 10 gold is 10 gold, given it takes moments to do, I can find no logical reason NOT to."
Because in the time you spend flying out there you could have done two easy Northrend dailies and made twice that.

First posts have been around since the dawn of message boards. They most definitely did not just start getting big 2-3 years ago. They will never go away.
pudds Dec 2nd 2008 9:16AM
Forgive me for continuing this argument much longer than I intended, but I object strongly to the idea that they've been around "since the dawn of message boards". I've been posting on message boards on BBSes and early internet message boards for upwards of 15 years, and in the early days of common internet access, message boards were respectful, tight-knit communities. I still post on a few that I'd describe the same way. In the beginning, they were most certainly NOT the kind of place where the "FIRST" idiots congregated; they'd have been laughed out or banned.
2-3 years may be too short of a window, but "the dawn of message boards" is most certainly inaccurate.

Well that was depressing :(

I understand why they had to mud-flate the Outland Gems and Enchants out of existance (otherwise, people would have had to keep zerging Kara at 80), but it is a bit sad that they're ONLY useful for powerleveling Jewelcrafters nowadays.
BillDoor Dec 1st 2008 3:20PM
Poor guy. I like your tabard though!
Jay in Oregon Dec 1st 2008 3:28PM
They should do more stuff like this in WotLK.
I personally wouldn't mind it the Kalu'ak sent me a batch of Northrend fish every month...
