On the search for Heavy Frostweave Bandages
One of the weirdest changes in Northrend so far is the way First Aid training works, strangely enough. Used to be that once you hit a certain level, you could just go run to the trainer to train up the next wave of bandages (or you could buy a manual from a trainer somewhere), but not so in the expansion: to get Heavy Frostweave Bandages, you have to depend on what seems to be a world drop. The rules are still a little hazy, and the plans to get it seem to be somewhere between experiment and superstition: we know for sure that you need to have 390 First Aid already to get the book to drop (though you need 400 to actually use it), and we know that it can drop from almost anywhere in the world. But apparently there are a few places where it drops more often: in Zul'Drak, sometimes in Sholazar Basin, and sometimes in dungeons. Other than that, everything else is just rumors -- I haven't gotten the book yet, and I've been 400 since I had enough Frostweave to level up.
Very strange, and strange choice by Blizzard to do it this way in the first place. It also appears that a stack of Heavy Frostweave Bandages sells to vendors for only 5g, so the days of nabbing lower-than-3g stacks of cloth on the AH and selling them to vendors for a profit may be over. Which is fine, because your guild's tailor could probably use it anyway. But I am bummed I haven't see the manual drop yet -- the better my gear gets, the less the non-heavy bandages do for me.
Update: Yes of course they can't be on the AH, because as you can see in the screenshot above, the manual is BoP. Never mind. Thanks, commenters.

It seems to be the way they're handling a lot of worldly drops.
First days of Wrath, I pugged Utgarde Keep and had 3/4ths of the 'emotion food' recipes drop for only me, as I was the only one who cooked.
Also, last week I was an engineer but I dropped it for JC. Yesterday got JC up to Wrath levels, found 4 blue cuts while doing dailies in Storm Peaks and ore hunting in Grizzly and Fjord.

Meatpie in Sholozar Basin dropped it for me yesterday.

Got it in Zul'drak from the trolls around Light's Breach... had FA skill up to 395 at the time I believe.

If you don't instance before 75, you'll most likely find it off of non-elite trolls in Zul'Drak.

If you don't want to wait for the RNG to bless you in some random instance then just head over to Light's Breach (which is pretty much the first quest hub you'll visit in Zul' Drak) then go west and start slaughtering Drakuru Berserkers and Prophets at and around the Rageclaw Den.
I usually have horrible luck, but it dropped for me after about 20 kills, and I’ve heard a lot of ppl say it dropped for them in 1 or 2 kills.
Make sure ur first aid is at 400, however, or it won't drop.

I've seen it drop in instances, only can be rolled on by those who can use it.
I got mine literally seconds after my First Aid hit 400 (not 390, 400). I had just hit 400, a mob jumped me while I was mining in the same spot, and it dropped the Manual.

Go to Lights Breach in Zul'Drak, Head Directly south where the Guards are fighting with the Mobs outside the village . Target said mobs, put some damage on them. When they die, you can loot them (even if the guards are already fighting them). Kill / repeat till the book drops.
I killed 2 mobs and got the drop.
It is BOP so no, you cannot farm it.

I got it and learned it at level 74 the first visit in Violet Hold, I had over 400 first aid. A guildie also got one, I think VH automatically drops them off trash for whoever needs them. Not hard to get at all.

I agree with the guy who commented about not getting plans and recipes from vendors around Northrend. In both Vanilla and TBC it was generally worthwhile to check odd vendors you ran into for interesting bits and pieces.
Now, apart from places to sell and repair, why on Azeroth do they even have vendors? Trade goods, yes. Most tradeskills need odds and ends to make things, but who ever buys the crappy armour and weapons those vendors sell?

Yeah, a little annoying however, it's nice to see no limited quantity patterns at vendors that magically show up on AH for ridiculous amounts of money and, of course, this bandage pattern. ;-) Nice move, bliz.

I got my book off of the second mob in my first Drak'Tharon Keep run, and was lucky enough to win it :).
As to another rank of bandages, I would love some. My tankadin has far too much health for even the heavy frostweave bandages to help significantly.

on a Nexus run, 3 people knew the recipe. I didn't know it, had First Aid 394, and when it dropped I didn't even see a roll box.
I got my FA to 400 and then the next day, killing time in Zul Drak waiting for a D Keep run doing the "toss a parachute" quest, it dropped from a trash mob.
Ancellion Dec 2nd 2008 4:47AM
got mine while questin in dragonblight, was pretty happy to get it too :)
amusing though cuz i was in a conversation of someone asking me how to get heavy frostweave, and the answer kinda falling into my "bag"

Got 3 books on the same mob pack in Violet Hold 2 days ago.
Rugus Dec 2nd 2008 5:19AM
Too bad Heavy bandages sell to vendors for LESS gold than Netherweave bandages. Odd thing.
JDM Dec 2nd 2008 6:13AM
Seriously, just head out to Zul'Drak, right where the user on WoWHead mentions to 'farm' for it. It has dropped there in under 5 kills for everyone in my entire guild.
JDM Dec 2nd 2008 6:15AM
The comment is just a few down the page by "saibiou"
"This is wrong.
I've just dropped it at lvl 71, with only 391 on first aid, and the book requires 400 to be learnt.
From dragonblight, go to zul'drak, there is a spot at 33,80 where Rageclaw Primalist (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=29438) are fighting with Drakuru Berserker (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=29656).
All you have to do is stand there, tag mobs (with an arrow :p) and loot.
Hope that helps."
Seriously, I promise. *nod*
Merah Dec 2nd 2008 7:25AM
got it on the first trash I killed in Sholazar Bassin, on Kapitalrisk noobs
Gansolino Dec 3rd 2008 7:55AM
Droped yesterday in Violet Hold.
Droped for me and for a guild mate.
let me ask -The Colum Blood Pact is over?
ejunk Dec 2nd 2008 8:31AM
I'm sure it's been said, but the mobs around Light's Breach in Zul'Drak drop the book. I got it from the first mob I killed.
