Breakfast Topic: What's your questing style?

I'm generally in the last category myself. There's so much interesting lore and compelling story in Wrath that I don't want to miss risking a questline anywhere I go. Besides, if I finish all the quests, I'm that much closer to becoming a Loremaster, if nothing else. I do mix it up sometimes if I want to head into a zone early to grab a specific quest reward, such as heading into Borean Tundra to get my Axe of Frozen Death before heading back to Howling Fjord, but for the most part, when I head into a zone, I like to get it nice and cleared out from end to end.
How do you quest, and why? Do you fit one of the types above, or do you have another method?

First, I'll do most of the quests in a zone, and once I get all of the dungeon quests unlocked, I'll do the zone's instance. So far it has gone like this:
Borean Tundra
Nexus
Dragonblight
Azjol Nerub
Old Kingdom
Grizzly Hills
Next will be Drak'Taron Keep, then I'll move on to Zul'Drak.

We started in Borean Tundra and did about half of it. I thought we'd miss the Howling Fjord stuff if we didn't take a break and do that too. My wife was upset with this decision, and we thoroughly finished everything in HF before returning to BT.
So now, I'd have to say we're completists. We get the quest and exploration achievement for every zone before we leave.

I'm very much a member of the last group, but I'm finding that to be problematic in ways I never expected. I was able to clear Hellfire and be about lvl 72. I'm not done in the Fjord with eith my Pally or Druid and they are both lvl 74. The need for healers and tanks means they get pulled into groups and get tons of exp from dungeons, but have all these quests laying around in areas that are not providing the kind of exp to move my bar faster. I think I may have to abandon my methodical approach just so I can ding 80 and it not feel so tedious.

I quest in between instance runs. I try to finish an area, but if I significantly outlevel it I will abandon what's left and move on.
My Resto Shaman went from 68-73 before leaving Borean. Questing is sporadic because it's a bit slow and with the high demand for healers I am very rarely without a group for an instance. I skipped HF and am now in Dragonblight at 74.
I started my Rogue in HF instead, and will probably do Borean as well. Instance groups will be tougher to come by as a DPS, and because it won't be as crowded.
So I guess I'm somewhere between the first and last group. I do like to try and finish a zone, but I don't always. I'm not big on achievements or lore, so I don't get hung up on it.

I am very meticulous in my questing. I'll grab every quest I can find and complete every one of them before I return to turn anything in. Then I'll grab all the followup or chain quests and repeat the process for that hub until I'm all done, then I move to the next hub.
On my DK, I completed every quest in Borean tundra, then moved on to complete every quest in Dragonblight (WRATHGATE!!!!!), then after that I went to howling fjord and completed every quest there.
I'm definitely gonna get the Northrend Loremaster.

Now, this is an interesting question... My fiance and I are questing together on our way to 80. I'm more of a go-where-the-wind blows me, picking up quests as I stumble upon them, and taking my time to read each of the quests thoroughly so I can pick up on any lore that might be in them, as well as figure out what I'm supposed to do. My fiance, on the other hand, is very efficiency oriented. He wants to finish as many quests as possible in the shortest time possible. This has lead to a few, *ahem*, discussions between us. We've settled on a slightly less frenzied pace than he would like, and I try to read only the more interesting quests for lore tidbits. Mind you, I usually end up having to read more of the quests than not, because my fiance is a bit map-challenged, even with QuestHelper to guide him. >.> So we make a good team, and have a lot of fun smashing rogues who decide that a holy priest looks like good prey... until I ride down on my paladin Charger and the rogue realizes that priest wasn't very alone, after all.

I Stick to a zone. I drain that zone entirely of quests before moving on. This is what I have done thus far.
I did:
Borean Tundra/Coldarra
Howling Fjord
The Dragonblight
Zul'Drak
Sholazar Basin
My only exception to this rule is Group Quests. Since I'm a prot pally most 2 person group quests I can solo, but not higher that that so I press on and go as far as I can untill I have nothing but grp quests or Dungeon quests left in the zone. Then I'll press on to the next zone until I get a party together and we'll go back and do EVERY group/Dungeon quest. This works well for me.

I usually just quest in a zone until the quests start to get few and far between. Once there are only a couple left I go ahead and jump to the next zone.

Honestly, I just blindly followed QuestHelper. I DO like the story and the lore of the game, but if I took the time to read quest text and understand exactly why I'm killing what I'm killing, or why I'm giving a guy an item, I would still be back in Old World doing all those quests.
I did all the quests I could in an area until it told me to go to another area and quest there. I have gotten some of the Achievements for doing a number of quests in an area, but only because I needed the Exp. and Money. I'm not going after those unless I happen to be REALLY bored.
I also really like the raiding. Even though my guild is really casual, and only managed to get through Kara and ZA, I still liked those instances. By powering my Priest to 80, I can start doing PuGs and getting some items, since only 4 people in my guild are 80 right now. But I want to raid again, even if it is just gonna be the 10-man versions of these raids. At least I'll be able to see it all.

I try to get as much rested XP and grind/run dungeons as much as possible. Since I can't play as much as I'd like, the rested isn't a problem. I plan to hit 80 by doing the least amount of quests so I have plenty of quests to enjoy at 80 valued at more gold. It's like replacing dailies with sometime more interesting.
BookhouseBoy Dec 2nd 2008 11:05AM
I also do the "Achievement" thing with every zone, including both Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord, along with dungeon runs. The thing is... you get a lot of exp from even the early zones, so I found myself first getting to Dragonblight (my 3rd zone) just 3 bars from level 76 ! I'm probably going to ding 80 while questing in either Grizzly Hills or Zul'Drak, leaving at least 3 zones to level at 80, and get all that gold, to boot !
Hoggersbud Dec 2nd 2008 11:11AM
I've not only done it once....I've done it twice. Borean Tundra completely cleared, working on Howling Fjord next. The whatever zone comes to be next. Given that I'll also need 740 quests to do the remaining zones, I'm sure I'll be a seeker in 3 to 4 more zones at most.
And then I have to finish hunting 82 more quests in Kalimdor so I can be a Loremaster.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Dec 2nd 2008 11:25AM
If possible, I try to get each zone done first. I just wish that I had done that when I first starting playing WoW over 3 years ago. I have to back track after I'm done with Northrend. ^_^;;;
Kia Dec 2nd 2008 11:25AM
Right now I'm going the efficient route, using the guides from Wowpro to quickly get my pally to 55 so I can get a Death Knight before they become old and tired in rp.
Usually, though, I try to do everything I can in a zone before moving on. I love WoW's lore, and some of these chains are too good to pass up even though they're just little bits.
Mor'Ladim's line in Duskwood and the whole Missing Diplomat chain come to mind.
Mark Dec 2nd 2008 11:39AM
I love the questing and am doing every one I possibly can. I actually feel sorry for the level 80's whining on chat that they are bored.. jeez, you blow through it in an frenzy of speed and now you have to wait for 2 more years before the next expansion!
I think Blizzard did a stupendous job with Northrend and I particularly like that the long chain quests give some amazing interesting quests at the end.. WRATHGATE! how many people moved on from Dragonblight and never finished the wrathgate epic questline in their quest to reach 80 quicker. We just stood with our mouths open, those minutes and the combined assault on undercity were the finest I have played yet. I can't wait to see what the next zone brings, each is getting better! I'm even saving Borean Tundra and the western side so when I level my alt I have all new areas to quest in.
why would you skip this content? Just so you can raid the same dungeons over and over and over and over quicker? not me, time enough for raids later.
Linoge Dec 2nd 2008 11:53AM
I have a personal style in questing, i enter in a zone, take one or a pair of bits of it, if i like the taste then I consume the land until im satisfice, (in some places it means clear the map, in other only a section of it) if not, then i spit it and leave.
Sometimes is the quest chain instead the place what lure me to go after it, thus i follow that chain wherever it takes me
Solitare-sp Dec 2nd 2008 11:58AM
I'm a completionist with this one as well. Done all of BT and Dragonblight, although theres a fair few in Howling Ffjod which I've missed. Now finishing off Grizzly Hills and i'm 2/3 of the way through lvl 78. Next will be Zul Drak, where I'll probably ding 80. Leaving SB, Storm peaks and Ice Crown for Gold...
Of course, I'm a Holy Priest, so doing slightly easier, and often green quests works better inbetween doing instance runs. Done them all upto and including Halls of Stone so far.
Amaxe Dec 2nd 2008 12:04PM
I tend to follow chains as far as they go, then look for a new chain. I tend to do poorly with Vehicle quests, and for that reason I don't like them. it seems like an added level of awkwardness to the game overall, and wish they hadn't done it.
Others who can do them well I am sure will like them and enjoy them, but that is where I am

Wherever QuestHelper tells me to go!
feldling Dec 2nd 2008 12:14PM
I do quests in the zone so long as I remain challenged and interested in them. I really don't care that much for achievements... I pretty much did all the quests in BT and quickly moved on to dragonblight. I really got sick of the Hearthglen quests and some of the other quests and was dying to move on. Plus I felt I could get better XP by moving to more diffiicult zones more early in the game.
I starting doing Grizzly Hills (did almost every quest there) and did 90% of the Zul Durak Quests. I hit S Basin at about level 77. Since I am a skinner / herber, I milked that zone for all its worth. I hit 80 in Icecrown. Not sure how long I'll be in that area as the zone is sort of bleak and the quests are sort of a pain.
I really felt like I was ready to move up in the zones faster than they would give me quests. So in that respect I was disappointed.
I do applaud Blizzard for some of the clever quests -- especially the ones in Zul'Durak.
A lot of the ride the mount or control a beast quest were cool for a while but got old and some were just a pain in the butt.
