Wrath 101: The Sons of Hodir

The quest chain to completely open up the Sons of Hodir rep grind is long. Really, really long. It's long in the good way, though. It's epic, and part of the chain is quite possibly one of the most fun quests in Wrath, and is as close to God of War as you're going to get in WoW. 'God of War in WoW!?' is what you're probably thinking. My answer to that? Yes. It's freaking awesome.
I hope you're sitting down, because I'm about to list the entire questline for you. The very first quest can be picked up at level 77 in K3, the Goblin town that's sitting right inside the entrance to Storm Peaks from the south. From there, just go where the wind (quest) takes you.
- They Took Our Men!
- Leave No Goblin Behind
- The Crone's Bargain
- Mildred the Cruel
- Discipline
- Examples to be Made
- A Certain Prisoner
- A Change of Scenery
- Is That Your Goblin?
- The Hyldsmeet
- Taking on All Challengers
- You'll Need a Bear
- Going Bearback
- Cold Hearted
- Deemed Worthy
- Making a Harness
- The Last of Her Kind / The Slithering Darkness
- The Warm-Up
- Into the Pit
- Prepare for Glory
- Lok'lira's Paring Gift
- The Drakkensryd
- Sibling Rivalry
- Mending Fences
- The Refiner's Fire (Drop)
- A Spark of Hope
- Forging an Alliance
- A New Beginning
- Veranus
- Territorial Trespass
- In Memoriam / Jormuttar is Soo Fat...
- Krolmir, Hammer of Storms
- The Terrace of the Makers
If you get to a point where a certain quest is unavailable, it's possible that you're just a little rep short of Friendly with the Sons of Hodir at the point where it becomes important, and if that's the case there's an easy solution. Before this becomes important, the daily quest Hot and Cold opens up within Dun Niffelem at an anvil on the upper level. Do that quest, and it will push you over to Friendly and you can continue the chain. That didn't happen to me, but it has been reported, and doing that quest seems to be the 'fix.'
The Sons of Hodir don't have a tabard that you can wear to Champion their cause in dungeons and Heroics, so reputation gains are going to be purely through daily quests and drops/looted items. After doing the quest chain above, you'll be well into friendly with the Sons. At each reputation level, a new daily quest or two opens up, similar to how the Netherwing faction worked in The Burning Crusade.
Friendly
Honored
Revered
Unless you get amazingly lucky with finding Everfrost Chips for the Everfrost repeatable, this grind will take you a little under a month to complete. Yeah, that's pretty harsh, but look on the bright side. The money from these dailies is really, really good. You do most of them in the same little areas, and Thrusting Hodir's Spear is regarded as one of the best daily quests ever. It's another of those God of War meets WoW moments.
To inspire you to get started on this reputation, I'll leave you with a video we posted awhile back from a friend of mine. The video is of the Drakkensryd, one of the quests in this very long chain. Have fun on your adventures!

Something for the Lorewhores? It sucks that us real players need to spend MORE time questing to gain a pve advantage.
Cyanea Dec 2nd 2008 12:40PM
Fail troll is fail.
Gus Dec 2nd 2008 12:42PM
Wtf do you mean by real players?
CSJenova Dec 2nd 2008 12:48PM
Heaven forbid you do dailies to help fund your raiding!!! If you don't want to do the quests...buy the Aldor/Scryer enchants. You want to min/max, do the dailies. Blizzard gave you a choice and that has nothing to do with "lorenerds". Heaven forbid you WORK for the best enchants.
ZOMG Blizzard made all the content too easy!?!?!?! WAH WAH WAH! They're making me GRIND my shoulder enchants.
Amaxe Dec 2nd 2008 1:08PM
How awful it must be to be forced to endure a story before getting back to raiding.
Personally I enjoy the depth of the questline stories this time around. if that makes me a "Lorewhore" then so be it

Sons of Hodir is simply one of the best questlines ever created by Blizzard, bar none.
I do feel sorry for the yobos such as the OP, that have the attention span of a weasel on crack. This is after all an RPG, heaven forbid they have to endure a story before getting a reward.

If its so bad, go inscription. Better Shoulder enchants with out the rep grind attached to them
fu Dec 2nd 2008 4:05PM
please dont associate that failure of a troll with hardcore raiders.
i swear, you dam casuals will stoop really low to advance your own agendas.
CSJenova Dec 2nd 2008 6:30PM
@fu
It seems to me that everyone else was responding to the "failure troll" not hardcore raiders in general. Just because we make a reference to something getting in the way of raiding does not mean we think all hardcore raiders agree with this guy ;)

@fu
Just because you swear it it doesn't make you right. People will respect your terms if you're not grouping casuals up with whiners who don't even DO the content and whine for more.

Everfrost isn't nearly has hard to find once you know what you're looking for. I hit revered in two days just with these turn-ins, with about 4 hours of searching total.
Everfrost itself is rather inconspicuous, often looking like part of the landscape. I saw players (who were doing the Hodir dailies) pass right by it several times. Just keep a sharp eye out. An addon such as gathermate will help you track down the spawn locations.
xeekthecatx Dec 2nd 2008 12:39PM
sounds like a hell of a grind... and to think that i was done questing at level 80!?!?! how foolish =P
Zuldim Dec 2nd 2008 12:42PM
I can do hot and cold at neutral. Only that one though.
Radiophonic Dec 2nd 2008 12:43PM
The Drakkensryd was freaking awesome. I wish it were one of their dailies so that I could do it again. =D
Hank Dec 2nd 2008 1:16PM
That quest was the best one ever, hopping from drake to drake, killing the riders.
vazhkatsi Dec 3rd 2008 5:49PM
I believe that in the beta, it was a daily, but for some reason they took it out, the guide i was sorta vaguely following during this questline listed all of the tournament quests as repeatable, like the one in the bear pit, but now they're not.
BTW, zelda music FTW
brian Dec 2nd 2008 12:44PM
omg @the video, where can I find that epic version of the adventures of link dungeon music! it's amazing. I've been listening to the midi for too long now.

That video is cool... but one question...
How would say a hunter do that quest?
Mongoose , Raptor Strike? OVER AND OVER?
Or do you get special weapons or something?
