I don't know if we've
mentioned this before, but even if we have, it's interesting enough to put out there again, I think. There is a dragon in the expansion that can be soloed, and drops a epic flying mount at 100% drop rate -- all you've got to do is find him. A few people have already nabbed the mount, and lots more are
on the hunt right now. The mob in question is
the Time-Lost Proto Drake: it's a rare elite spawn (but as I said, it's possible to solo it, especially at level 80) that shows up every six hours or so flying around the Storm Peaks. Unfortunately, none of the usual suspects have maps of where he's been seen yet, but we're hearing it's
around the southern part of the zone. When he goes down, he'll drop the mount, a good chunk of gold, some Frostweave, and
a random enchantment Talisman.
An interesting tactic on Blizzard's part -- on the one hand, this is definitely a big change from the huge questlines and rep grind from the netherdrakes: just kill this one dragon and you're guaranteed the mount. On the other hand, the rare spawn rate, and the fact that it is a 100% drop rate means there'll be a lot of competition, at first anyway, for the kill. But the good news is that the odds will only get better -- if you're willing to do some dragon hunting for a few hours and have some keen eyes for what's in the air, you could pick up one of the coolest flying mounts yet.

I really hope a casual up and ninjas this mob from some idiot that spent 9 hours a day for the past 2 weeks looking for it.

yay, another very obtrusive, useless time waster, of both the getter and the people trying to speak to an npc that its sitting over.
you are asshats for owning one and farming one, and before you say it, I have a red one from wyrmest rep. that i simply don't use.
Arcaria Dec 3rd 2008 2:33PM
You must ride a short bus to school, work or whatever it is you do.

I got mine in the north near the Crash site as well. Had it since November 21st. Good luck and happy hunting!

^^ Do your cooking dailies, and you will have your solution to griefers that like to block important NPCs by standing on top of them. Baby spice can be used on anyone, even if they aren't grouped with you. All you need to do is babyize the asshat and you can conduct your business with the NPC.

I've been using this on the people that stand in the fountain in Dalaran. They like to block the bobbers when people are trying to fish up coins. One sprinkle of Baby Spice and *POOF*! You've got some Teeny Tiny Taurens.

This mount isn't meant to be camped. There's an element of luck to it, and a reward for killing a very rare spawn. Congratulations to all those that run across it, and I hope I am lucky enough to nab it one day.
Mane Dec 3rd 2008 2:48PM
Nice to know, I'll have to keep my eyes open when farming herbs. Certainly not going to waste hours camping for a maybe spawn. I get enough grief from the girlfriend just for playing!
Grats to owners, Good luck to searchers.

thank you, Bocephus, the "baby spice" i've used in areas such as the amp. very good advice and useful.
generally though, I find these bear mount, and drake mount kids, and adults with intsy bitsey teeny weeny "teen being key word here" penis' an issue.
really last thing we need here is more npc blocking retards.
glad that its on an ungettable spawn. if you do get it and use it wisely, congrats =)

Woops, forget to add:
Red is reported kill or corpse of the Time-Lost Drak,
the blue and green dots are the other 2 possible rares that spawn in that zone.
scott de soto Dec 3rd 2008 3:21PM
This would have bothered me, had I not picked it up a couple weeks ago. Spent 10 hours one day, then went back the next, saw it immediately as soon as i got into the area.
Corazu Dec 3rd 2008 3:26PM
I'm going to be hunting for it later; and while I don't like the idea of competition - I do like that with more people searching, there's likely to be more information, which will make it easier to come up with a strategy with a higher rate of success of finding the spawn.
Khirzask Dec 3rd 2008 3:26PM
Well, now the beans are officially split.
Oh well, I already have one. :P

As an engineer, I fly around Storm Peaks a lot in my ROFLcopter looking for crystallized air and water. It can get pretty boring, but it is fun when I find a cloud. This will give me something else to look for while doing that, so thanks.
syco Dec 3rd 2008 4:31PM
Yeh, I still have to hit 76 or whatever and spend the 1k to fly in Northrend.
And I never got the 8k for epic fliers, so I'll have to save that up too.
Maybe by the time I can actually use it, there won't be quite as much competition for it.
Philip Dec 3rd 2008 4:49PM
FFS Mike.
Why did you have to spread the word.
Few people knew about this.
Haarits Dec 3rd 2008 5:14PM
Yeah, nobody knew about it... because nobody who reads Wowinsider checks Wowhead, ever. Ever ever ever. And they certainly don't look at the 'Same Model As' tabs when checking out mounts, especially new mounts. Nope, good thing nobody knows about Wowhead.
I haven't hit 77 yet, but when my PC's fixed and I ding I plan to head to Storm Peaks to start the Sons of Hodir chain and the long grind to Exalted, so I expect I'll run across this eventually. And if I run across the other rares reportedly sharing the spawn timer with the Time-Lost, well hey I might get some good loot from 'em to auction and maybe give myself a timeframe on when I should check the area again.
