The Queue: Mystery of the missing goggles

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.
It's Friday, the second best day of the week, in stark contrast to Wednesday which was the worst day of the week. What is the number one best day of the week? Well, that's for me to know and you to find out! Or guess, or form your own opinions. You know, whatever.
Oh right, the questions! Canth asked...
As a Holy Paladin I picked up Engineering for the goggles. However, it seems that for level 72, they only have Ret and Prot versions of the epic goggles. Is there a Holy (something with int/SP on it) equivalent anywhere? Did Blizzard forget about us?

Yes, I think they did. Plate healing goggles are nowhere to be found currently. I'm not sure if they plan on adding them in the next patch or anything like that either. They might! They might not. I don't know.
I'll probably get eaten alive for suggesting it, but if you were really hoping for some healing goggles, the Mail ones are pretty good for a Holy Paladin if you can ignore the Mail part. The goggles aren't class restricted (I actually may be wrong on this and Paladins can't even learn the Mail ones) and you'd only be losing about 800 Armor. That sucks, but it's tolerable as a Healer.
Shadowsun asked...
My main's a level 70 Fury Warrior and just recently entered Howling Fjord, what quest/5-mans can I do at my level to get a decent 2Hander?
It's a good thing you started in the Howling Fjord, because you have a pretty convenient 2Hander right there in your zone. All it takes is an Utgarde Keep run! Well, assuming you're having good luck. Ingvar the Plunderer, the last boss of the Keep, drops Ingvar's Monolithic Cleaver. He only has three items on his loot table, so the axe isn't especially rare, you're just not guaranteed to get it on your first run either.
Pyril asked...
I hate wasting all my pvp gear that won't sell and isn't good enough to use anymore. But I'm not an enchanter so can't disenchant it. If scribes can inscribe enchant scrolls to sell, can they or will they be able to scribe disenchant scrolls?
I kind of have my doubts. Armor and Weapon Vellums are what allows Enchanters to put their products on the open market. A Disenchant Scroll would be like putting the ability to mine a Saronite node on the auction house. Wouldn't make a lot of sense, you know? At least, that's my thoughts on it. We don't know if they'll do anything like that, but I really doubt they will.
bigcountryinil asked...
I dunno if I missed this or not, but is there a Fishing daily in Northrend? If so, where is it?
There is no Fishing daily in Northrend, sorry.

You can't use Goggles for another class, paladins can only use plate ones hunter's only mail ones etc etc
At least as far as i know and i think Druids are having the same problem whereas they can't learn their goggles
Coldbear Dec 5th 2008 6:04PM
Ferals, resto druids and holy paladins are the only classes/specs that are affected by this issue currently. The goggles are BoP, are learned from a trainer and THERE IS NO WORKAROUND.
Holy paladins are stuck being only able to learn how to craft the protection and retribution goggles.
Ferals and restos are stuck being only able to learn the boomkin goggles.
In beta paladins had 3 choices of what goggles to learn to craft, but there was a bug with the holy ones having the exact same stats as the protection ones, and instead of fixing the bug they just removed those goggles.
Ferals just want to be able to learn the ones that rogues can currently make, and I'm pretty sure restos would be happy with the cloth healing ones.

I believe those particular goggle specs don't exist right now because there is an equivalent item available from Reputation vendors. I know this is the case with the plate healing goggles, at least. Argent Crusade has a hat that has the exact stats a holy pally would want on their goggles, minus the cloud tracking and far sight.

Because Ele goggles are fine and viable for Resto right? Resto Shamans are also screwed in the goggles department. While not AS screwed as holy pallies, it seems, those goggles are not very good for resto. And besides some pvp blue LW stuff, there is no crafted stuff in general I would grab for resto.
Then again, that saves me the struggle of getting mats as resto, or trying to get dragon's eyes for JC stuff.

The problem with the goggle situation is that unless they changed it from TBC, you are only allowed to learn the maximum gear level version for yourself (example: lock can learn cloth, shaman can learn mail but not cloth, etc)
Shardrell Dec 6th 2008 9:35AM
As an engineer, I can confirm this is true.
Paploo Dec 5th 2008 5:10PM
Regarding the PvP items, you can't disenchant most (perhaps all) of them anyways.
Jack Spicer Dec 5th 2008 6:48PM
Yeah, I think the rule of thumb is if you can't sell it, you can't disenchant it either.
GreatLich Dec 5th 2008 7:37PM
Actually, as I found out yesterday, my Turtle Minders robe (honored Ka'luak... the walrus guys) couldn't be disenchanted but it could be vendored.
So I guess the 'rule' is: Stuff you bought, but not with gold, can't be DE' d nor vendored. Stuff you did buy with gold, can't be DE 'd but can be vendored.

Since when can pallys not wear mail?
Now my warlock engineer is just 59 but on all the engineering guides I've never read anything that says you can't learn the other stuff. I know I have some mail engineering patterns right now (what can I say, I'm a completionist).
I wouldn't think he'd be barred from using an armor type he can wear if he wants to. (After all, pallys could wear cloth if they wanted to die fast too!)
Farrell Dec 5th 2008 5:14PM
you misunderstand. It's not that pallies can't wear mail, it's just you can only learn how to make the paladin specific goggle schematic
All of the different classes have specific versions of the goggles that only they can learn. And, since they're BoP, they can't be swapped
Irshalthra Dec 5th 2008 5:16PM
I agree, I am a Shaman and wear cloth and leather at times - when I am not worried about armor. Seems odd to me that a Pally could not wear mail engineer goggles - unless they were somehow class specific to hunters /shamans.
Finnicks Dec 5th 2008 5:17PM
^ this
The goggles are learned from the Engineering trainer, not a dropped schematic. And the trainer will only offer you the goggles that are for your best armor type (Cloth for Priests/Mages/Locks, Leather for Rogues/Druids, Mail for Hunters/Shamans, Plate for Death Knights/Paladins/Warriors).
Although I'm uncertain if Druids had access to the rogue Deathblow goggles in BC. Seems to me they should have... Kitty form, eh?
jared.daniels Dec 5th 2008 5:24PM
here's what you do. Get a shaman engineer to make one for you, you supply the mats so it'll be close to no charge.. :D problem solved
Jim Dec 5th 2008 5:31PM
@ Jared--Epic goggles are BoP, so no trading allowed. This goes against the trend for the expansion but engineers do get their purple at 72.
I have to say, I am disappointed with the lack of healer specific goggles, not just for plate but for every armor type. Forgive me for the QQ, but it really continues the current trend of healers feeling overlooked. The regen nerf coupled with the complete lack of regen stats on the new goggles doesn't put me in any hurry to level my engineering past 375, I'm afraid.
vazhkatsi Dec 5th 2008 5:31PM
except that all the 72 goggles are BoP, so not so much eh?
Finnicks Dec 5th 2008 5:12PM
Actually, Alex, Friday, if it's the "second best" day of the week, would therefore exist in stark contrast to Monday, the "second worst" day of the week.
It's Saturday, the arguable "best" day of the week, that would exist in stark contrast to Wednesday, the "worst" day of the week.
:)
Alex Ziebart Dec 5th 2008 5:13PM
That's just how much better the best day is. The best day of the week is better than the worst day is bad!
...I think.
Drakthorn Dec 5th 2008 5:16PM
does the glyph of sunder armor that applies sunder to an additional enemy work with devastate too? as in will devastate apply the sunder effect to your target plus another one?
jbodar Dec 5th 2008 5:24PM
Yes -- I currently use this Glyph -- and I believe it's been confirmed that it adds the sunder's threat component. The second mob does not take Devastate damage though.
