Reminder: Meet WoW Insider at the Chicago Child's Play event tonight
Don't forget: if you're in Chicago, and like helping sick kids and playing videogames, you should definitely come out to the Child's Play benefit tonight at Plan B, just north of North and Milwaukee, off the Damen Blue Line stop.I'll be there, there'll be an open bar and raffle prizes, including a few good giveaways from our friends at SwagDog, local developer (they've got an office out near Western and Belmont) Midway will have their latest games available to play (including a MK vs. DC tournament, I believe), and it should be an amazing time. There are plenty of tickets left, and even if you can't grab a ticket, I can probably get you in at the door. Just tell them you're with WoW Insider, and I'm sure we can work something out.
Plus, it all goes to support Child's Play, the charity started up by Penny Arcade that donates videogames to hospitals for kids to play while there. There are a number of events going on around the country (including the big dinner in Seatlle where Blizzard is giving away that employee-exclusive statue). But of course the one here in Chicago will be the best: you'll be able to have a great time, help a worthy charity, and talk Warcraft with me (when I'm not trying to figure out the Joker fatality in MK vs. DC, that is).
The event starts at 7 over at Plan B, at 1635 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647. Bring a friend and I'll see you there.

If the drive wasn't >4 hours or if I had tomorrow off work, I would totally be there.

Hmmm, I might stop by. It's about 2 blocks from home, and I can talk 826 and WoW with Mike. I'll see if I can get away from my game of Puerto Rico for a bit.

Will the Chicago event be auctioning a Senate seat this evening?
Mike Schramm Dec 9th 2008 3:08PM
Yup, Blago won't need it any more. Maybe I'll bid on it -- if WoW Insider doesn't work out, "I can parachute me there."

You do know parking in that area is the pits AND, at 2 p.m. CST, we're getting that "wintry mix" so typical of Chicagoland in December. It sounds like a coffee from Starbucks but is guaranteed to get your heart really pumping when the Eisenhower is 90 minutes from Mannheim to the Post Office.
I live in the 'burbs so I'm going home after work, heating up some soup, finishing my package wrapping and then firing up my computer to work on my mad hunter skilz before the nerf. Have fun Mike. You should consider an event in the 'burbs where finding parking isn't worse than getting 12 Primal Airs on the Elemental Plateau on a PvP server on a Saturday evening.

Or you could take the Blue Line which eliminates your parking problem, saves you money, and makes the city cleaner. I'm so glad they are jacking the parking meter rates up. I hope nobody can afford to drive downtown anymore.
I'm not going either though. Got finals to study for. Great cause, have fun Mike!

I second Kevin here.
You COULD waste 90 minutes sitting on the Kennedy in rush hour traffic, or you could avoid the gridlock altogether.
Manheim -> Higgins -> Cumberland, park in the nice Park N' Ride structure at the Cumberland blue line station ($2 for up to 12 hours!), hop the el to Damen, walk 2 blocks north, and you're there in like 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, having such an event in the 'burbs would leave us city-dwellers in a bind...once we got off the el or Metra, we'd be sorta hosed unless it happens to be Pace-accessible...and even then, we'd have to hope said bus/train is still running when it's time to go back home.

TOTAL WIN!

ARG! Finals week! otherwise I'd love to be there with you Mike. I Missed the Wrath release too at my formerly local gamestop. I hope there's a great turn out.

I'm not getting to go, due to where I happen to live this year, but I've done my yearly donation to Childs Play. I'm incredibly impressed with the amount of momentum this charity has picked up over the last few years, especially from the relatively newer WoW community. I hope y'all have a fantastic time out there.
Oh, and Mike...
Jokers Fatalities are Forward, Back, Forward, (X or Square) at close range or Back, Down, Back, Forward, (Y or Triangle) at close range.

I'd go since that's not far from me (I live at Ashland/Lincoln/Belmont) but this weather is ridiculous.

Does the Subway there still make all the apartments above it smell like bread?
I used to live a few floors above Siren salon...the smell didn't make it to my place, so I loved walking by & smelling that fresh-baked goodness. The folks who lived on the other side of the building begged to differ, though.
Alarius Dec 9th 2008 8:30PM
lol, I couldn't tell you since I don't live precisely at that intersection but I've walked by that Subway many times since my girlfriend works at Siren and I know exactly what you mean, the smell of freshly baked bread is wonderful.
