BigRedKitty: It's hunter-pinata time!
"Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Hunter Nerf-Bat Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure lesser-class-ideology. Where each squishie may bloom secure from the pests of contradictory and confusing truths. Our Unification of DPS-Thought is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on Azeroth. We are one class, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion."
"We shall prevail!"
"We shall prevail!"
We are so totally not slapping on a pair of red short-shorts and tossing a sledgehammer through your screen; everyone knows hunters can't equip maces. /pfft
And now, let's talk about what could be coming to hunters on the next public test realm as if we're not hopped up on Captain Crunch and a triple raspberry latte.
The hunter-forums are ablaze with irate masses, shrieking their throats raw over the proposed class-changes scheduled for the next Public Test Realm deployment. In our very humble opinion, they have every right to be, and it's all Ghostcrawler's fault. But not for the reason you think.
BRK's Exhibit A: "TO THE GROUND, BABY"
This statement was made by the defendant, coming off the phenomenal experiment that was Overpowered Retribution Paladin on the WotLK beta. Ret pallys were destroying anything and everything in their path. It was a beta; nobody should've cared that adjustments were to be made to DPS and healing. And they wouldn't have, if GC hadn't poked the gorilla.
It's called Diplomacy, and right now, the game masters who post on the forums at Blizzard need a crash-course in it. One would think that from the debacle that was the Rep Pally Smackdown, the developers would've learned their lesson. Nope.
BRK's Exhibit B: "I'm a game designer. I'm not a PR guy, which I think is pretty evident from my posts. :) "
That's one great big tall frosty glass of "DUH", right there. You've got a community of eleven million players, don't you think that you need to have someone with training propped up there to interact with them? WoW is bigger than Portugal (pop. 10.6 million) for cryin' out loud! Do you think the government of Greece (population 11.2 million) goes around and delivers bad news by way of a blog post?
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Occupant of Greece. The government is raising your taxes by 170%. Sorry you're upset, but we're not government officials; we're game designers! Hasta!"
Don't think so, that's not how the pros do it. The time has come for Blizz to knuckle down and realize that the language they use to communicate to each other with internal projects is not the same in which they should educate their customers as to future plans. And if you know you're not trained to do the task, either get some education or hire someone who has the skills already.
Notice that we're not upset with the message yet, arguing that hunters aren't over-powered? We'll get there, hold on. But first, if we're going to point out a problem, it is proper etiquette to attempt to solve it, too.

Oh QQ more, they are handling things fine. This is a game, not a country. "Wahh they talk to use unprofessionally!!"
Hudders Dec 10th 2008 9:47AM
You just know the same people would be whining if Blizzard did hire a PR person to deal with the masses by way of non-committal rhetoric.
James Dec 10th 2008 9:51AM
The best part is, this post wouldn't exist if the hunter nerfs didn't happen. The author wouldn't care, he wouldn't have posted this. It's disingenuous at best, considering many of the t7 hunters in my guild all agreed these changes made sense.
jappaex Dec 10th 2008 10:28AM
So your *supposed* t7 hunters agreed with the massive halving of the steadyshot ap coefficient? That is a huge nerf that know hunter agrees with. Sure i agree with most of the changes, because Bm hunters were putting out excessive amounts of Dps. However when gc states "Bm hunters were too high, mm and surv fine *lol wtf survival fine??*" and then nerfs the key shot for every single spec it makes me wonder do the Devs even know what a hunter is? The funny thing is there is an interesting topic on EJ about this about how the hunters who reached 6k dps were using stacking buffs and what not *yes some buffs still do stack, although most do not*. Just as interesting is the fact that BM pets have nearly reached the height of their capability because they do only gain a slight percentage of the hunters attributes, and most of their huge damage was coming from the fact that they were fully buffed with the level 80 buffs. I could go on for a lot longer, but to conclude, if you're hunters are fine with all the nerfs *especially the steady shot one* then i think something is wrong with your hunters.

I'm with James on this one, QQ more.
Thrashnak Dec 10th 2008 5:41PM
Jappaex, that tells to just how OP things are when the players can step back and say "yeah, we're OP right now, the change is justified". Nobody wants to be nerfed, but people with common sense can understand the need for balance.
Yeah, it's fun seeing those numbers, it's fun being top DPS barely trying, it can be fun being OP. But when you know you're OP, there's no reason to be upset when it gets fixed. Enjoy it while it lasted and get back to just having fun and actually having to compete.
Trying to justify being OP is just silly. If it were another class you'd have been calling for nerfs, then rebutting their reactions by saying it's fair.
mcdead Dec 10th 2008 6:43PM
/agree James
I hate hunters - I stopped levelling one cause they were soooo easy.
However - I do really enjoy your posts and videos BRK. But this by far is the silliest.

"Ret pallys were destroying anything and everything in their path. It was a beta; nobody should've cared that adjustments were to be made to DPS and healing. "
I thought the ret pally changes that made them ridiculous made it to live with the 3.0.1 patch...
Cy Dec 10th 2008 9:26AM
That would be a bit tough, since there was never a 3.0.1 patch on live servers.
Dizzy Dec 10th 2008 9:39AM
If I'm not mistaken both the 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 patches where applied the same day. This does not mean the changes did not come with the 3.0.1 patch.
skynes Dec 10th 2008 9:13AM
And if they did send a PR guy to talk to people.
Everyone would whine that they're getting the short end of the stick and not getting 'proper' Dev feedback.
Boogs Dec 10th 2008 9:56AM
Exactly.
Arcaria Dec 10th 2008 9:16AM
Even with their OP'ness hunters were rarely sought after in groups. Why do you think that is? Now the class that generally brings the least in actual player skill to the table is getting brought back to reality.
The small percentage of good hunters out there will still be good hunters. The rest will now suck and not be able to point at the meters to give the false impression of being any good.
Vlatch Dec 10th 2008 9:18AM
It's time to see which hunters are simply mashing their Bestial Wrath key every two minutes or so - while smashing their Steady Shot and Volley keys...and which ones actually know how to play.
At most, this should effect your hunter's DPS by 12-15%. From what I've seen (as a BM hunter), I'll still be topping the charts in DPS by AT LEAST 5%.
Button mashers of the world, be afraid. Be very afraid.
Chris M Dec 10th 2008 9:24AM
I agree completely with Vlatch and Arcaria. This patch seems to be the 'bring it down to normal' level. As a ret pally, I'm currently destroying the meters, but only because my 5 mans typically suck and I'm pretty well geared. But BM Hunters are the few able to top me, and when they do it's in leaps in bounds.
I want to see all classes brought to a level where skill is the deciding factor, not general class overpower like it is now. Hopefully this patch brings us to that paradigm.
grohk Dec 10th 2008 10:01AM
Overreacting much? Here is a thought...most of the player base *never reads the forums* and won't be nerd raging over these long overdue changes. Yes, they should have been done in Beta, but they really need to be done.
Zokkar Dec 10th 2008 9:32AM
Being a hunter I'm gonna QQ definitely. Don't read if ya don't agree please.
I don't understand what about Hunter's pve damage is OP?
I mean Rogues and Spriest could easily out dps me and we're all in badge/naxx gear.
Ret pallies still do reasonable damage after the nerf and DKs, totally pawn Hunters.
We were nerfed a long time ago and this is a second bat to the face.
*sigh* I'll just get used to it over time i guess.. but man.. zugzug
Vlatch Dec 10th 2008 10:07AM
If you are getting out-damaged by SPriests, you either have VERY good SPriests or you need to raise your game a bit.
We should always top the damage meters (save survival hunters) in the current situation, and we should still nearly top them even after the nerfs.
