Echoes of War music set out now
Blizzard has released the Echoes of War music set we posted about a while back, and they've got a nice new site to go along with it. The site features a trailer of what you'll hear on the CDs (and the included DVD, which has a feature length documentary, among other interviews and features): music from all of Blizzard's universes, from World of Warcraft to Diablo III. Pretty awesome. We originally said there'd be 70 minutes, but it turns out there's over 90 minutes of music to go around here. At $50 for the whole set and $30 for just the CDs, it might be a little pricey to pick up yourself, but it would make a great gift this holiday for a Warcraft fan (hopefully one close to you, so you can burn the CDs after you buy them, too). And even if you don't want to buy the set, the new site has sample tracks which are definitely worth listening to. Blizzard gets a lot of praise for their art design and gameplay, and while their music isn't the most memorable in videogaming (Mario's theme, Final Fantasy's music, or the Zelda tunes are probably much easier to recollect for most gamers), all of Blizzard's tunes are definitely epic enough to fit nicely in the games they're written for.

I love that wowinsider is so against gold buying a paying for leveling, which is not illegal, but then suggests you should steal the cd by burning it, which IS illegal.

Next time you want to make a stupid post, save us the trouble of reading it and just type "FIRST!"
crazyfool Dec 10th 2008 1:30PM
Wtf are you talking about? You sound like some butthurt kid who tried to buy gold and got caught. All he is suggesting is you buy the gift for one of your friends or relatives and then burn the discs for yourself. He's not saying burn discs and sell them. There's no stealing involved.

Nobody gets their accounts hacked for music piracy.

Nothing stupid about pointing out the truth. Sadly stealing music and movies is fine with a large number of people. It's sad.
Though I bet if someone was taking all the information found on this website and posting it on their own then WoW Insider would pitch a fit.

The funny thing is that people actually do that.
I searched Google the other day for guides for feral druids and found a page that was a summary post about druids from WowInsider but it was on another site and had none of the links to the relevant posts. Copy and paste FTL...

I've bought the full set a few days ago, and I think it's really worth the money.
The music is simply epic. It has immense depth, with a multitude of symphonic instruments, synthesized elements, and choirs. It catches the worlds of Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo very well, managing to "squeeze" much of the essence of each world in a track or two (each CD track is influenced by multiple Blizzard tracks).
Additionally, the set comes with 8 concept art cards, which are very nice for every fan, and a DVD detailing the creation of the CDs (which I haven't watched yet).
Last but not least, it has a collector's box of sorts, which is also a plus for whoever likes having something special.
My bottom line: Even at 50$, I think this is a great investment for people who enjoy symphonic music, and even greater for Blizzard's music fans.

@crazyfool
That is absolutely illegal unless you are burning the music for yourself for the purposes of backing it up.

I ordered the legendary edition of this and reviewed it on my blog, seen @ http://www.benversluis.com

Endorsing the burning of these CD is a horrible mistake on the part of Mike. If Mike decides to edit this article I hope he just removes the text instead of just slashing though it.
The site has been around since the set's release but has had some revisions.
Info for those interested in ordering.
You must go through PayPal to pay with a credit card. You don't need a Paypal account to pay with the card. Your card will be charged the moment you confirm the payment. It is not like other sites that do not charge you until the item ships.
This item ships from Japan (as it is manufactured by Sony) and will ship by SAL (Surface Air Lift) mail. There is no tracking or insurance available by this method.
It will take about 20 or more days for your CD to arrive (depending on your location).
For me the Limited Edition shipped in a bubble envelope but was slightly dinged on arrival. It happens and it's minor.
The cards are excellent quality as is the packaging. CD sound great and the music is wonderful. I listen to it daily and don't regret this purchase.
The DVD is nice as it shows the creation of the release however other then the making of aspect, one could do with out it if one so desires.
My total cost was:
Order Subtotal $ 49.95
Shipping & Handling $ 13.38
Grand Total $ 63.33
Since this ships from Japan there was no sales tax to CA. residents. There was no duty owed either.
$13.38 may sound steep to a few but consider domestic shipping and possible tax, it's almost about the same.
Was it worth it? Yes. I'm very happy with my collection

Pretty slow about posting this, I got my legendary edition like 2 weeks ago. Just after Kotaku.com posted about it.

I believe people are taking this post out of context. In the post, he stated "And even if you don't want to buy the set, the new site has sample tracks which are definitely worth listening to".
Listening to.
He did not say "You can go to the website and burn copies of the music".
As for the CD collection, I can say its well worth it. The collector’s box is lovely, as is the artwork cards. The music cd's are breathtaking and very well done. They put alot of work into making these sound absolutely perfect. The dvd was very entertaining and I enjoyed getting a backstage look at how this was put together. It made me appreciate it even more. My only complaint is that you coudl not track the package when it was being shipped.
