Hunter pet oozes with charm

The Spirit of Ha-Khalan was tameable, so some Hunters got really cool, transluscent crocolisk pets. I mean, who needs Spirit Beasts? Entertainingly enough, the other two quest mobs were also classified as beasts and were likewise tameable. Eventually some Hunters were running around with a spooky hydra or, like my friend, a disgusting little pile of snot.
Aside from waiting for the right daily quest, these pets aren't nearly as hard to tame as the ghost wolves of yore. Will Blizzard let Hunters keep their slimy little companions just as some lucky few were able to keep their spirit guides? We'll see. Hopefully. What's so wrong about a slime that thinks it's a crocolisk, anyway? The pets are considered Crocolisks and share Crocolisk family traits, with the Bad Attitude special ability and Tenacity talent tree.

I've heard that people are actually able to get the daily quests from certain tamed Hunter pets. Confirm/deny?
Mania Dec 10th 2008 10:54PM
Hardly a secret -- they're up on Petopia. *grin*
The wolf with a quest is the Frostworg Denmother, a Sons of Hodir quest-giver/beast from the Storm Peaks. However, the latest news I've heard is that she was hotfixed and can no longer be tamed. Unfortunately I can't check myself yet.

From my experience, players like cool unintended secret special stuff.
A weird bug pet is always better than just a normal pet designed to be cool.

I was debating between the Snot and the Hydra...and chose the Hydra. Just seemed like a more hunter-like pet then a slime...
I named it (him?) Rowdy...cause, well...just watch them for 30 seconds.

Dammit... i sure wish i'd been levelling my hutner, rather than (for some reason) my mid 50's pally... My poor level 70 hunter will have pretty much no chance of getting to 80 in time to tame one of these fabulous beasties... that makes me a sad panda :(
Todd Dec 11th 2008 4:14AM
I'm curious, if you have a low level hunter could you group with an 80 when they do one of these quests then tame it?
R. Sue Dec 11th 2008 7:25AM
Unfortunately, no. You can only tame pets your level or below, no matter how very tanked or ice-trapped they are, and the beasts from the dailies are all 80.
jrb Dec 11th 2008 5:01AM
got mine last week.. i love it because unlike other pets it does not appear to scale with level. so at 80 you have a very compact pet, which is of course incredibly annoying for the enemy in pvp. :-))
jrb Dec 11th 2008 5:02AM
no. You have to be at least the same level as the pet you are trying to tame.
Mr. Luhg Dec 11th 2008 7:48AM
Wouldn't it be nice if they added slimes as legitimate hunter pets just because of this bug? Too bad they aren't as cute as the non-combat slime pest.
Netherscourge Dec 11th 2008 8:23AM
BTW - why the hell aren't Hydra's considered Exotic pets int he first place?
They are classified as beasts, they can walk on land, they look cool....
What's the problem?
Of all the pet possibilities in this game, Blizzard chooses to hold back one of the coolest looking ones in the game...

Ive had a croc since lvl 15 (OMG 4 years!) and got the 45ish rare from Theramore (same skin as sewer beast). If you like tank pets, crocs are awesome. They have a ton of armor, prob about 16k buffed at 75. I tamed the demon dog in ZulDrak, so not sure what he is now that Im 79. The hunter nerf will drop his dps down, but tank pets never had alot to begin with. Best MeatShield EVAR! They make growl noises and tail swishes, and sometimes stand on your teammates loots, but are worth it. The new pet taunt has saved a few warriors from death.
:) And, his name is Manpurse. People remember him and send me messages after all this time.

been doing these dailys for over 2 weeks now almost half way to exalted and this is the one and only quest that i have yet to do :( i want a hydra!!!
JayCanuck Dec 11th 2008 9:51AM
FYI, this is old news. ManiasArcania reported the bug way back in Beta, and again a few weeks ago, short after her own hunter hit 80.
Mania even put it on Petopia after Blizz seemed to do nothing about it, even after several extended maintenance days.
I spoke to 2 in-game GMs and they basically told me Blizz is aware of the bug and will be doing something in the near future; quite generic, lol.
I first got a hydra on my hunter. I ended up abandoning it; it was soooooooo noisy and so annoying overall; the first 15sec of watching it is neat, then it's so annoying you're rushing to the stables to put it away. I then got an ooze and love it.
Clbull Dec 11th 2008 12:21PM
I hope they don't do to this what they did to Spirit Wolves, that is make them untameable and let other hunters who got it when it was still available keep them.
I WANT a pile of ooze as a pet, and a hydra too.
Xqo Dec 14th 2008 12:32AM
This is me and my pet Flubber, on Stormscale EU.
Watching a slime tank Onyxia was pretty cewl alright.

For all you hunters that have tamed one of the beasties: I have heard getting quest "Cleansing Song" is dependent upon time of day you visit Oracle. If this is true PLEASE post time of day. I have been 6pm, midnight, 4am so far with no luck! Thank you in advance!

Ok, so I have had a hunter main forever, but I always seem to conveniently miss rare pet opportunities. In my opinion, the ghost wolf, slime, and various other untameable pets are the coolest in the game. Just when I'm close to getting high enough level to tame them Blizz crushes my dreams. I made it to 77 before patch 3.0.8...a few more days and Koosu would have been mine!
