The Queue: Trial and error

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.
Hello, everyone! Did you all grieve for me yesterday when The Queue never showed up? Yes, I apologize. My internet connection going down for 14 hours sort of caused some problems. But I'm back and better than ever! Well, I'm back at least. That second part is still up for debate.

I have been hearing that the price for epic flying mount is going to drop to around 2500g, have you heard anything about this?
This is a rumor that shows up for every patch. Patch 2.3, 2.4, Wrath's release/3.0.1, and now with patch 3.0.8/3.1 it's back again. It's just a rumor that goes around, nothing from Blizzard lends any weight to it. Could it happen eventually? Yeah, probably. It wouldn't surprise me if the price came down one day in the future, like they ended up doing with ground mounts. Blizzard hasn't said anything about that, though.
Ian R. asked...
What ever happened to WoWInsider's weekly AddOn column? Having The Queue daily has ruined my paitence for all the other columns.
I think The Queue's absence yesterday foiled half of this question, but oh well! AddOn Spotlight has been spotty for a little while, but it'll be back full time in the near future. Keep an eye out for it.
actodd asked...
Which instances and raids have the most badges in them? I loved Kara's 23 (22?) and running heroic Bot for that extra boss kill. What are their equivalents in Northrend?
Naxxramas has 16 or 17 badges, and is a pretty quick jaunt once you've got the fights down. There's surprisingly little trash, so it's pretty much boss after boss after boss. The 5-mans in Wrath are shorter in general, so that one extra badge probably won't even really be a consideration. You can get three badges in twenty minutes in Heroic Azjol-Nerub. I think that beats anything The Burning Crusade had to offer.
HunterFromTheStart asked...
What about Fishing Lures, is there an improved one yet? And is there a fishing daily hidden away somewhere? I was kind of hoping for a new Fishing Daily, so that I could keep up my supply of fish hooks.
No new lures, no new dailies. It would take some puttering in the old world/on an alt, but if you absolutely need the 100 Skill lures rather than the 75s that you can buy on a vendor, you could always commission an engineer to make you a bazillion Aquadynamic Fish Attractors. They're the same as the Sharpened Fish Hooks, except they're crafted. Tedious? Yeah, but at least you can get a whole load of them made in an afternoon rather than a daily quest giving you 5-6 at a time.
Vjax asked...
Are there any daily quests that provide the opportunity for the new badges to drop like the SSO bags that had a chance to drop a BoJ?
I haven't noticed any and Wowhead doesn't list anything like that. BC didn't start handing out badges like that until very late in the game, so I imagine Wrath will be similar. Maybe not as late as in The Burning Crusade, but not for awhile at least, if they do it at all.
Healem asked...
I'm a priest (Disc/Holy) and want to start getting involved into Arena play. I own all the Season 2 gear for my class and most items that can be purchased with Honor points only. Coming next week, should i be doing Arena in my Season 2 gear or my lvl 80 Epics (Naxx/crafted/heroics epics)? Is S2 gear still viable?
The arena is one of those things where you don't really know until you try. You can math out PvE encounters to some extent, but not so much PvP. My gut says level 80 PvE epics will trump Season 2, but something like Season 4 would trump the 80 PvE gear. If you have the time, queue up for some skirmish rounds trying out different gearsets before the season starts. For a Healer, you'll pretty much want to see what lets you survive a focus fire.
Season 2 has a lot of stamina and resilience, but compare your HP in that to your HP in level 80 epics. I imagine there's a hefty difference, but does the Resilience you're missing make up for that and the load of spell power you gain? We just don't know yet. It might, or it might not. Like I said, run some skirmishes. It won't be the same as coordinated arenas, but just make a note of what kind of damage you have being thrown at you.
If you're getting 2-shot, that particular gearset isn't working. If a disorganized skirmish is tearing you apart, an organized team will kill you so hard Blizzard will delete your account and pre-emptively ban you from battle.net for Diablo III.
I would be doing much the same thing, skirmishing to test gear, but I lucked out and cheesed my Deadly Gladiator gear out of Archavon. I actually kind of feel bad about it.
Also, have you looked into the crafted PvP gear from Tailoring? Just search for Frostsavage on Wowhead and it'll bring up the full list. A little expensive to make, but it might be worth it to start the arena season off on the right foot.

i am engineer and wanted to ask that how much gold will it take me to make 1 of those motorcycles and how much profit will i gain from them?
Kor Dec 13th 2008 4:18PM
my friend is one too and from what I have seen to make the motorcycle if you can't make the titansteel bars I think its going to cost you at least 500g to make, but then again it matters your server's economy.
Tanglebones Dec 13th 2008 4:20PM
The vendor bought parts cost 12.5k gold. You also need 2 Arctic fur, and 12 Titansteel bars. The value of those is going to vary depending on realm, on mine they're running between 250-300g a piece, so 3000-3600g (even if you craft them yourself, using them instead of selling them represents negative profit) plus the furs... which I haven't even checked for, but I'd guess at least 100g per... So, you're looking at about 18,000g for your bike.
Because of the hefty price tag, I wouldn't even bother making them for sale, except on a commission basis. How many people have 20k sitting on their bank alt? And of those, how may either have an engineer alt, or a friend who'll make it for them at cost? So you're probably not going to see a lot of money for making the bike.
Jason Dec 13th 2008 4:23PM
You're looking @ 12,500g worth of parts from the vendor in K3 once you've gotten the schematic. you also have to put together 12 Titansteel bars, 40 handfuls of cobalt bolts and 2 Artic Fur (hope you know a skinner).
I've seen them on the AH for 15000g on my server, but who knows if they're selling at that price. With all the vendor purchasable mounts ranging from 8000 to 20000g there may be a market for them...my engineer is building one for himself and will happily build one if someone else fronts the cash.
if you want to make money as an engineer, use your zapthrottle mote extractor and sell the Eternals (esp air) on the AH.
Sallix Dec 13th 2008 9:37PM
dish out 12k gold just for the mats from K3, then cash for the crafted mats if you buy them. and you won't make much profit as many people won't trust you with 12k gold :\

Any sign of Flying Carpets to change from Vehicle to Mount in an upcoming patch? Do you think they'll change this?
Cetha Dec 13th 2008 4:49PM
I really hope so...After spending ridiculous amounts of gold, to level up my tailoring (wtb more cloth dropping in northrend) to 425, I am hugely dissapointed in what a pain my flying carpet is. Don't get me wrong, I love how it looks, but I hate that i can't just instant dismount like i can with my dragon to fight things, etc. Also it would be nice to be able to sit...that weird falling forward surfing thing is just creepy.
JL Dec 13th 2008 4:22PM
On the wrath box on the inside cover it says "engage in aerial dogfights with flying mounts and new, gnome engineered planes" I havent seen any of this so far. do u know when or if this is guna show up?
Blackthorn Dec 13th 2008 5:30PM
There are several instances of this in the game already, but they are all part of quests.
At Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight, there are several quests, one a daily, where you ride a dragon and shoot down other dragons while in the air.
In Howling Fjord, at Steel Gate, there is another daily where you fly a plane with a machine gun and rocket launcher, to defend the dig site against gargoyles.
There's another dragon daily at the top of the nexus (need to fly to get there)
And lastly, Storm Peaks has a few quests for the Sons of Hodir chain where you fight vyrkul and other dragons in midair, with your own class abilities.
I think more aerial fights were planned for Wintergrasp, but were removed due to balance issues.
Hurode Dec 13th 2008 5:29PM
I believe that was in beta, but was yanked at the last minute because they couldn't figure out how to balance it. Apparently airplanes were extremely overpowered in Wintergrasp, which is where they were used, because they could just gun down people below them and couldn't die.
Xerous Dec 13th 2008 5:32PM
Howling Fjord has dog fights in the gnome airplanes vs Gargoyles, a daily quest.

Is it possible for a level 80 hunter to solo any of the lowest level Outland instances, or will the boss fights be way too much for one person to handle by himself?
John Dec 13th 2008 5:02PM
I was soloing ramparts and Blood Furnace before Wrath came out (but after 3.01). Now that I am lvl 80 I would be willing to bet with the gorilla I could solo the hellfire, zangar and terrokar instances. I will try tonight and let you know.
Michael Dec 13th 2008 5:10PM
My 80 lock solo'd Escape from Durnholde Keep and Auchenai Crypts with an sl/sl type build. I imagine it would be even easier for a hunter.
Talldar Dec 13th 2008 6:46PM
My brother solod some normal mode Outland instances with his BM hunter before even hitting 80, so I guess right now you'll do just fine. Try heroic for a challenge :)
Shulkman Dec 13th 2008 5:13PM
Can a tailor change their BC specialization somehow in order to change their Wrath Spec so that they can make a different cloth?
Blackthorn Dec 13th 2008 5:33PM
You used to be able to change at the tailoring trainers in Shattrath for 100g. I imagine you still can.
Ragan Dec 13th 2008 5:24PM
I am a herbalist of 450 skill and I was wondering if I put the enchant gatherer on a pair of gloves will it improve the quantity of herbs in a node? Or does skill gained from enchants etc grant naything special if you're already at max skill? Thanks in advance.
melvinhaze Dec 13th 2008 6:50PM
No, it wouldn't help as far as I know.
The +5 enchant just adds 5 points to your skill level...which mean that you'd be able to pick up herbalism-400-herbs with a skill of 395 already.
