Breakfast Topic: What's the First thing you did when you got to Dalaran?

Everywhere you turn, there's something interesting going on, and every shop has its own life. The Architecture is an amazing blend of human and elven styles that looks to have organically evolved from a rich magical culture, and the atmosphere is lively without descending into the constant laughing and lag inducing sparring of the Aldor and the Shattered Sun Offensive that plagued Shattrath's outer ring. It also feels livelier and more city-like than Shattrath's strangely alien fortress and adjoining shanty town.
With that in mind, the first time I got to Dalaran on Beta, I definitely did a lot of just running around, taking in everything and searching through the nooks and crannies... and taking the time to /rude that Mary Sue, Rhonin. After all that, I went and bought myself an ultra cool Ghostly Skull from the sewers for my pet collection. I have yet to decide if he's more of a Murray or a Morte though.
So I'm interested to know, besides running around and gaping at the pretty scenery, what was the first thing you did in Dalaran? What was the first gadget or trinket you indulged in? How magical was your first trip?

I love dalaran.
Walking into a small close nit town, with town citizens giving directions to major points of interest.
All the stores are very unique, and i love the alchemy store, with its bottle as the door way.
Enchanted anvil makes it fun to be a blacksmith.
The great characters of lore, Rhonin and Krasus really make me glad to visit dalaran.
As horde, the cooking trainer is hilarious, what the hell is he cutting that takes such a huge motion?
I also love the name of the horde inn, the filthy animal.
They made this place great for serious RP people.

I found the inn and set my hearth.

After the administrative aspects of my trip were done (set hearth, portal training) I went straight for the sewers.
There was no one there but me and the NPCs. I found a sewer pipe that goes straight down, down onto the forest. I could barely resist jumping down, just to see what the fall would be like. But I did resist, and made a solemn promise that as soon as I got my cold weather flying I'd jump out of that pipe and fall for a good long time before hitting flight form.
The city seemed too shiny and pretty, but the sewers feel like home.

I took a nice little tour after learning the teleport spell. I think my first stop was the Toy Shoppe. How could that mini train and track above it not entice you to come inside?

First thing I did was run around and try and figure out why those dumb humans were teleporting me out of a tunnel until I figured out it was the alliance zone. Then I walked around and learned the basic layout of the place so I wouldn't be totally lost when I actually needed the city. Then I stopped by the mage trainer, picked up new spells, did the quest that allowed me to use that crystal down to crystalsong forest, and took some screenshots of the city. Slow fall from the sewer pipe just because I can.
I really like that city. I like how there isn't rows and rows of useless shops that don't do anything besides look nice. Everything there has a purpose. It's very space efficient but still looks nice at the same time. Lots of originality in there. The portals room for the horde (dunno about you allys) is pretty neat, although I wish they'd split all the portals into different rooms to alleviate some latency when you zone in from the BG's. The CoT portal is very welcome, and so is the portal to lake wintergrasp. It's neat to see 20+ people lined up waiting to go defend the keep. Even more fun to participate in it! For being an awesome city, I give it a 10/10. For being user-friendly, technology-wise, I give it a 4/10 because not everybody has 2GB+ of RAM.
If only RAM was cheaper, though. I'm tired of hearing people complain. Technology prices are really holding things back.

RAM is dirt cheap right now!
(if you have DDR2)

I went to see how much the bear mount cost! And then bought a toy for my pet to fetch haha
Then we went hunting for the ninja turtles and Splinter in the Sewers. It was so much fun!
Filip83 Dec 14th 2008 6:29PM
How is Rhonin a Mary Sue??
Telak Dec 14th 2008 6:44PM
Straight to Innkeeper to make Dalaran my new home.
Really wish I had checked out the neighborhood before making that impulse purchase. Did you know that there's a gang of alliance hoodlums RIGHT Across the street from us?
Ice Princess Dec 14th 2008 7:12PM
I was a 70 mage, got there via BG summon.
Did these things in order:
- screen caps
- Mage trainer
- Performed teleport quest
- Sunk 750g on bear mount
- Bought the "play catch" toy
- Contemplated buying the train set... maybe for xmas. LOL
- Queued up for Strands of the Ancient bg - looked fun!
- Got fed up with the lag (i have 2g RAM) and teleported to Shatt...
Joester Dec 14th 2008 8:29PM
I bought my Polar Bear Mount. ehhe.

The first thing I did in Dalaran, was go up to Rhonin and scream at him for 5 minutes the following invectives:
"Hey Mary Sue Rhonin, did you go back in time and father Thrall's Grandmother?"
"Mary Sue Rhonin, did you hear about the 15 year old kid, who got all these amazing super powers, married a hot babe, had teen angst, somehow did all these amazing adventures and still got home in time for dinner?"
"How everyone, how many Mary Sue Rhonins does it take to ruin a magnificent fantasy adventure, with compelling lore and originality? Answer, ONE! This A&$(E right here!"
Needless to say, I got a warning from a GM

Since I normally have to run WoW in uber-lowres-craptastic mode Dalaran didn't look or feel like much more than Orgrimmar, shrunk down and painted white. In general I got a good view of the cobbles, since if I point my camera up I start walking nearly in stop-motion my fps drops so fast.
The framerate problems beside I've done nothing in Dalaran other than pick up the FP and try to find a Horde-friendly inn not entitled 'The Dirty Animal'... I mean, please already.
To me Dalaran will never equal UC or Org as a major city with a populace and identity. It is a waypoint I use to go from one place to another full of cavalier, racist, turncoat Human Mages. I'll use their portals, but I'm not going to saunter down the main promenade, or turn my back on them for a second. The Mages are being eaten by the Blues, and they need every ally they can scrounge up... well, it's a seller's market my sorcerous friends, and you all have a large debt to pay.
