Around Azeroth: Bombs away
Not since The So-Called Mark of the Lightbringer has a quest chain ever made me feel as badly as the Drakuru quests in Zul'Drak. If you haven't done it yet, you get to wear a scourge costume and take orders from an "evil" Scourge-affiliated troll (who you previously helped rise to power in Grizzly Hills.) Problem is, this bad dude is nicer to you and appreciates your work more than 90% of questgivers out there. Thanking you, giving you personal tours, treating you like his best buddy -- he could teach Garrosh Hellscream a thing or two. Your inevitable betrayal of the troll feels like an act of treason. Submitter Markus apparently feels the same way, as he's helped Drakuru equip the Scourge with parachutes so they won't crush their precious heads falling from his floating necropolis. After trying to control a load of brainless moronic Abominations, I'm not surprised that Drakuru's minions need technological aid to keep from succumbing to their own stupidity.
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.

You know, I haven't done this chain, but I think I know what you mean about being treated with respect. The only reason I sided with the Oracles (before I found out about the rewards) was that they seemed like decent creatures. Not jerks like the Frenzyheart.

Haha I think I have a picture like this floating around. I got to the last part of the chain, on top of the Necropolis...and dropped out of combat. All of a sudden everything disappeared, and I was stuck there. So I have a picture of me, a little zombie, floating to the ground. I have to say some parts of that chain were really irritating, but it was neat as well. Drakuru is a hell of a lot nicer than the Ebon Blade guy you deal with during the chain.

Drakuru is pretty nice to you, but when I started to realize that he was evil during the Grizzly Hill chain, I started to feel really dirty about killing the healers who were just trying to get their men back together to fight the Scourge.

I had no qualms about killing him. He's, you know, EVIL.
Traitor to his people and worked with the Scourge. Victory for the Argent Crusade in my book.

Even worse, one of the death knights at Ebon Watch does unspeakable things to a troll captive. She gives him a present, he says "For me? Really? It's...it's beautiful, mon!" and then he dies a horrible death. It's just sick.
I'm going to form the ASPCT.

A present of a necklace which was originally intended for YOU.
They're showing you what would have happened if you would have put the thing on. Get some perspective, ya?

I think it was an Infected Troll, meaning he would have succumbed to the plague and joined the scourge anyway. So, maybe she was doing him a favor. My impression is that the Ebon Blade is supposed to be the anti-hero archetype, sort of the Punisher to the Argent Crusader's Captain America. I know what you mean, though. Like, she couldn't have just said "this necklace would kill you and turn into the scourge"?
Poor Drakuru, all he needed was a friend.

You know, I had no qualms about "betraying" him. Lest everyone forget, the entire reason you are able to infiltrate and sabotage his (quite evil) operation is because his minions attempted to turn you in to a Scourge. The whole cursed necklace you pick up to start this quest chain. Anyone remember that? And the only reason he's "kind" to you is because he thinks you've become a Scourge sometime after his betrayal of you in Grizzly Hills.

Drakuru really took me under his wing :( I hated to turn against him

Ah I get to be evil in the name of the light, YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring it on!
Between stealing babies and killing bald eagles I feel like nothing any more ;-)
Brunixx Dec 15th 2008 3:23PM
I figure you shouldn't feel bad for the guy because he did try to turn you into a ghoul in the first place. So in the end it's only revenge. And besides, technically you dont kill him, the Lich King does :P
Cowy Dec 15th 2008 4:13PM
I felt bad about this questline too, poor troll. He's a bad guy that you hate to hate. Too bad we aren't given optional quests later to redeem him in the afterlife or something. (since the last step kills him)
Kinda sucks that we're supposed to do quests and feel pride/loyalty for our faction...when they call us "scrub" and "maggot " on sight, and "not completely useless" when we finish long quest chains. A lil thank you never hurt. *sniffle*
Then Gabe Dec 15th 2008 4:42PM
Something just occurred to me. This quest line is pretty nifty in that the Lich King's purpose for drawing us all to North Rend is to attempt to corrupt us. So that's what Drakuru has obviously come close to doing with some. "You see, the Scourge, we're not all that bad... We respect you. The Alliance/Horde doesn't respect you..."
Azvolrien Dec 15th 2008 5:06PM
Wait, you got a parachute? I just got teleported down to the path...
Nibarg Dec 18th 2008 4:49PM
That questline was hideously frustrating and annoying to do, especially in a partying group like I did. For the blasted abomination quest alone, the guy's inevitable fate was more than he deserved (though quite awesome all the same, not to spoil anything).
