You know you play too much WoW if...
I admit it. I play too much WoW. That's alright, if you're visiting this site, you probably do, too. I have found it interesting how WoWisms have made it into my everyday life. I'm not talking about weird things like naming a kid Onyxia or getting plastic surgery to look like a Blood Elf. Some WoW habits just become normal. So here goes, you might play too much WoW if:...words like gank, pwn, and aggro have made it into your regular vocabulary.
... you find yourself hitting your push-to-talk key to the person next to you, on the phone, or any other place that's not Vent.
... You've had nightmares that involve Death Knights, Murlocs, or *shudder* Gnome Rogues.... you think of your errand day in terms of a quest log.
... you think of gifts for your friends and family as rep turn-ins, and you're hoping for epic lootz under the Christmas tree.
... you secretly wish that playing the stock market was as easy as the auction house.
... when none of your friends want to do something IRL, you seriously consider PUGging it. (BTW, anybody want to go to a Griffin's game?)
... You're so spoiled by in-game camera controls that when watching TV or Movies you long to be able to pan and zoom.
... You find yourself shouting Leeeeeeroy! when you're nowhere near a computer.
It's not always a bad thing. Here's a little secret about me: prior to rolling Tauren, I didn't know how to do The Hustle. Come on, admit it, you're probably guilty of at least one of these. How else has WoW infiltrated your daily life?

I don't think some of those listed are realistic, but I understand the concept -- guilty of referring to the ingredients I gather before baking or cooking as "mats".

"... You're so spoiled by in-game camera controls that when watching TV or Movies you long to be able to pan and zoom."
I do this while watching any video on my computer. It is BS and frustrating when I cant adjust my camera angle....

Definitely guilty of using "ninja" in everyday language.
I've got this nasty habit of accidentally calling my IRL friends by their in-game names, too.
tulipblossom Dec 16th 2008 9:24AM
Lol, I do the exact same thing with my camera angle. But, again, only when I'm watching a movie on my comp or watching some video on it. I'll sit there and very often for like a split second, attempt to adjust my camera angle. xD I completely thought I was the only one and now feel so much better. Haha.
I also sometimes do this on web sites, no clue why.
It reminds me a lot of when I was in tae kwon do as a kid. I got so accustomed to bowing when I would enter or leave a room that in school and at home, I would sometimes bow when entering a classroom or the kitchen. It's sort've funny.

"Really Amanda..."
The two grammatical mistakes right off the bat were the first things I noticed , and they distracted the hell out of me when I was trying to read the rest of it. We all make mistakes and we're all human, but come on guys, please read this stuff over before it's posted.
Pantyraider Dec 16th 2008 9:33AM
She has mistakes like that in all of her articles. It really is rather annoying.
Thaliana Drenden Dec 16th 2008 2:05PM
Lay off. You've never made a grammar error?
Tiago Dec 16th 2008 9:40AM
Man, I hate it when people reply to the first comment with their unrelated responses just so their comment displays near the top of the stack.
Downrank them all. Into the ground baby!

My family and I play WoW too much. We know this because, my cousin's birthday came around a few months ago. They came over, he walked thru the day said "ding"(birthday = level......:()
and we all send gratz with no hesitation. My wife(non wow player) was lost for like 3 mins on what was going on:)

when i was watching the new promo for WWE with Triple H dressed up all Conan like, i referred to the giant sledgehammer at his side as a mace.
my friends all looked at me in bewildered disdain.

worlds = words?

I asked my 16 year old daughter if she had enough gold for gas in her truck to go pick up her brother from his girlfriend's house.
Her reply?
"WTF, Mom? You play that game too much!"
10 minutes later, she says....
"Mom, are you gonna give me some gold...crap..I mean, money.... for gas or not? ...... And, don't say nuthin!"
LOLZ

@Steve: Sometimes I wonder if the people running the website are either under-educated or very young due to the grammar, spelling, and proliferation of typos.
I do agree that people make mistakes, but it is like this in almost every article. That is what troubles me the most. If your contributing authors cannot police their own articles, you might want to consider employing an editor through which to filter the articles prior to making them live.
@Tiago: I feel your pain. I think it is not on purpose, but that there is a "Reply" button under the first comment, while the proper reply box is at the bottom of the screen (sometimes several seconds of scrolling away for those who know it is there, but are too lazy to scroll to it). IMHO, the website needs to either put the comment box on top of the comments (perhaps in a DIV which opens on-click or something), or perhaps even just a very visible button to reply to the article higher on the page than the first comment's reply button.
One other possibility is to have replies to comments "collapsed" by default, thus top-level posters would get more initial visibility.

"IMHO, the website needs to either put the comment box on top of the comments..."
IMHO, the entire comments system on this site is complete bullocks and needs a massive overhaul.

I think it's annoying at times when people correct others' grammar, like in chat or something like that, but this is suppose to be a professional article. They get paid to write these, so yeah, I think a little more time could be spent checking it over. Especially when you got a check coming in the mail for it.
Kassius Dec 16th 2008 10:42AM
yes! none of the ones listed here happened to me, in fact the "mats" one is right on, woke up this morning and thought "Damn i would love pancakes but i don't have the mats". Happens a lot, but apart from that wow-ism has luckily stayed out of my RL
Todd Dec 16th 2008 11:29AM
@offday
People might in fact find correction of grammar and punctuation in chat to be annoying, but I think there is an injustice by not trying to correct that person... and an injustice to everyone who has to sit through and painfully decipher what the hell is being said.
