The Queue: Punching our way to greatness

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.
Yesterday we were talking about the Bros Before Ho Ho Ho's achievement a bit. Specifically, do you need to be level 77 to get it if you're a Horde player? Most of us thought yes, you do, but stacy (one of our readers) popped in with some pretty creative instructions on how to do it. Check that out, then we'll get on with the Q&A!
Classy asked...
Anyone know a good place to fall to get the "Going Down?" achievement?

As others mentioned yesterday, the Scryers elevator in Shattrath is a pretty good place. You just jump off the left side, making sure you hit the ground and not the ramp or any of that sticky-uppy stuff. You should get the achievement no problem. There are lots of other random places where you can get it, but that's the easiest landmark to point out. Port to Shattrath, fly up, jump off, all done.
Cement asked...
Are we credited the hours that are lost during the Tuesday maintenance for our items on the auction house?
I don't think so but perhaps someone will prove me wrong. I remember that back in the day I used to ninja-bid on low-priced blues just before maintenance and would log in later that day with some cheapo blues in my mailbox. I'm not sure if that was because the auction expired while the server was down, or if I won it after servers came back up the legit way. Pretty sure it was the former though. It worked pretty well and made me some decent money, either way.
T asked...
Now that 3.0.8 is live, what NPC do we turn in the Relics of Ulduar to?
Patch 3.0.8 is not live. When it is live they'll get turned in to the Sons of Hodir Quartermaster Lillehoff.
Ty asked...
If 4 Death Knights were to Death Grip a player in 4 different directions at the same time would the player be "quartered", or split into 4 parts?
Yes, that is exactly what would happen. You can put the player back together by giving the pieces to 4 Mages and have them stand in a circle and Blink toward each other.

I want an undead female that uses fist weapons, because the stance is ungodly amounts of awesome. What would be my best excuse for this? A warrior? A rogue? Which spec? It's probably a terribad idea--the only class I know that REALLY likes fists is a Shaman--but it wouldn't exactly be a hardcore raiding character, just for fun.
I think a Combat Rogue would be the way to go with this one for Close Quarters Combat. It's probably not the most ideal Rogue spec ever, but as you said, it's just for fun and I think a good Combat spec will do that for you. A Fury Warrior could work as well, but I think the Rogue would be way more fun than a Fury Warrior without Titan's Grip. Plus, if you're going down through Killing Spree, that ability is wicked awesome if you're off questing or something.

Very cool, i think i will be falling off the edge of shatt elevator!
For fun of course =D

Have a Heavy Frostweave bandage and /target self ready. Unlocking two achievements simultaneously means it totally wasn't planned out in advance.

There is also a place off the Scyer's tower that works. There is a little ledge that overhangs the Lower City, if you stand at the edge of the ledge and look down, you can see a "tarp" stretching from the tower to the inner city wall.
Just step off the ledge (or dismount when your looking at the crystal thing in the bannister on the ledge), making sure you land on the tarp and voila... achievement.

I once logged out while mid-zeppelin route from Org to UC -- when I logged back in the zeppelin was just leaving UC, so I hastily jumped off -- hit the ground with >5% of my Health remaining and got the Achievement quite unexpectedly.
I haven't tried to duplicate this with another char, but intend to.
Just jump off the zepp about 10 seconds after leaving Tirisfal.

Doesnt work for Alder rep people ....
Masarah Dec 17th 2008 8:47PM
It works fine for Aldor because the guards wont attack until you get closer.
Just stay on the elevator and jump and you will be fine.
Hudders Dec 18th 2008 3:49AM
Somewhat easier for Rogues thanks to Safe Fall.

So i've managed to learn all the available minor glphys. how long will I have to wait for new ones to be available for me and do you have any idea what they might be?
I've seen one on wowhead for a mage polymorph

There's other ways to finish Bros before Ho-Ho-Hos as well. As a lower-level mage, I simply had a warlock summon me to a mountain on the left-hand side of the boat's path, and was able to slow fall right on to it. I imagine you could accomplish it with Noggenfogger for other classes.
There's also a lower mountain that the boat circles around in the northern half of its path, and it's possible to jump from there as well.

I got my falling down achievement in arathi basin I believe, if not then the pvp area available right after wsg.
Don Dec 18th 2008 7:21AM
I got my Falling down achievement during the scourge world event before wrath, I was messing around on one of the tiers in shatt when I was knocked off by a NPC I think. Because of the ungodly amount of stamina I had I was able to survive and get back up to the top of the tier to continue spreading the plague.
Kanuris Dec 18th 2008 2:20PM
Don, fall damage is based on a percentage of maximum health. Stamina does not save you from shattering your bones.

Was jmburt1 replying to the title of the thread "Punching our way to greatness"? Do you really want us punching your pants?

Why don't Blood Elves and Night Elves speak the same language?
MayDay Dec 17th 2008 3:22PM
A better question to ask:
Why can't BE's speak with the Alliance races? Did they forgot how when they joined up with Illidan?
cjshrader Dec 17th 2008 3:27PM
Those two races have been separated for a ridiculous amount of time, they don't even look like each other anymore. Why would they speak the same language?
Blood Elves and High Elves on the other hand...
Eddy Dec 17th 2008 4:15PM
As an amusing side, the High Elves now speak Darnassian, not Thalassian, at least when you approach them and encounter their vocal emotes. They just use the Night Elf ones instead of the Blood Elf ones.
Cosmix Dec 17th 2008 4:32PM
Why does that little girl, Hilary, in Lakeshire speak Orcish? Because she's a damned, bilingual orcish spy!
Hurode Dec 17th 2008 4:39PM
Why don't the English and the Germans speak the same language? Short version: the High Elves were separated from the Night Elves for so many hundreds and hundreds of years that the two languages took different evolutionary paths.
When the Blood Elves left Kalimdor some millennia ago, they went one way while the night elves went the other. As time passes, languages change.
Old German and Old English, from the early Anglo-Saxon days, were literally the same language. The tribes more towards Eastern Europe had the language evolve into what is now called German, but when the Normans invaded Britain in 1066, they brought their language with them, and Middle English and Middle French kind of melded to become Early Modern English.
The point is that when you separate a group and let their languages evolve for thousands of years, they won't be the same at the end of the road. Thallassian and Darnassian are similar gramatically, with word suffixes often the same, and the two also have a lot of the same words, but it's still different.
Kakistocracy Dec 17th 2008 5:15PM
Hurode, Some English and German people do share a language.
