Widespread connectivity issues abound today
Users of Comcast and Verizon are experiencing technical difficulties today in their connectivity to the game. They are experiencing this in both connecting to the actual game, and then maintaining a good connection once in the game.Blue poster Claudiog is seeking more information from the community on the technical support forums. In particular he's looking for traceroutes from affected users. Head over to their forums (ignoring their own ads) and help them out if you're struck with these issues.
Some users are stating that the Los Angeles datacenters are the culprits for the connectivity issues. However we want to caution users that Blizzard has made no official statement about their datacenters.
There is also plenty of evidence that states otherwise. It's important in these cases not to assume things with incomplete data. However Blizzard's technical support staff does have complete data, and appear to be hard at work fixing the issues.
We'll keep you updated on this throughout the evening.

It seems to be a problem with several bad hops between your home and blizzards servers. For me it also affects my VOIP and connection to some specific websites. Been going on since comcast bumped up everyones speeds. And a nice speed bump it was but right now i'd settle for low pings.

It seems to be effecting Charter in the South too. I can't stay on for more that 5 minutes at a time.

Yahoo DSL ftw. ATT :)

This is certainly not a nationwide issue. I'm having no problems from the NW, connecting to the Seattle datacenter.
Jason Dec 19th 2008 5:42PM
I'm in the NW as well. Specifically Portland. Myself and friends on both comcast and verizon are having issues.
I ran a tracert and see high pings at hops in Seattle. Other people report bad hops in Texas.
FallenCypher Dec 19th 2008 5:58PM
You may not be having problems. But I am and i'm near the Seattle datacenter. Been constantly loggin in and disconnecting for a many hours now.
Bromnir Dec 19th 2008 5:50PM
High pings in Seattle? ...This is just a guess, but Seattle was just hit by a huge winter storm, stranding most people at home. From what I hear, that means most of Microsoft's workforce is coding from home via remote connections to their work PCs. Is it possible that's enough of a disturbance in the tubes to wreck all connections passing through the Seattle area? (Or maybe just the winter storm is enough by itself. :P But I prefer my conspiracy theory.)

This is a nationwide issue. That post linked above, and multiple other posts on the support forums confirm it.
Myself? Northern Florida; horrible lag with good latency last night, constant DCs today, Comcast.
Bromnir Dec 19th 2008 6:22PM
Yeah, I see that now. Ah well - one less thing to blame on them, at least.

Though it seems most of the outages are not in the U.S.
Todd Dec 19th 2008 5:41PM
I'm experiencing such issues. :(
Todd Dec 19th 2008 6:16PM
Yeah, I'm dropping every 10 minutes. So much for playing any tonight. I hope I get reimbursed for the time lost.
Thedarktower Dec 19th 2008 5:42PM
Been trying to level my alt all day, I've been disconnected about every 10 minutes, with about a 3 minute wait before I can reconnect. Cannot go to the Worldofwarcraft.com website when this happens. I live in the NW, Oregon. ISP = Comcast.
stormbreaker Dec 19th 2008 7:04PM
Same exact problems for me. Comcast in Portland, OR connecting to Daggerspine.
themadchemist Dec 19th 2008 5:43PM
I have been having horrible troubles with lag for the past few weeks and last night I kept disconnecting. I did a tracert and sent all my information to Blizzard as described in their help section and have noticed no improvement. I have Comcast and live in the Salt Lake Area anyone else in the area having problems?
Nick S Dec 20th 2008 1:41PM
Hundreds of Comcast users (myself included) are having problems with horrible lag and disconnects, and have been for weeks.
The thread on the tech support forum capped out and was reopened. Find it here:

@zifnabiom
hoping to blame something other than my ISP, but unfortunately I don't think my connection from PA to CA routes across the ocean
cuso26 Dec 19th 2008 5:48PM
It's related to AT&T's messaging center, there's probably a router down, though the tracerts I've seen so far have the problem originating in either LA or Dallas.
Jason Dec 19th 2008 5:57PM
I have also seen issues in Seattle and Chicago.
What could possibly affect hops in Seattle, LA, Dallas and Chicago all at once?
