WoW Insider on How I WoW
Patrick Beja (who was on the WoW Insider Show not too long ago) and Shawn Coons host a great occasional podcast called How I WoW, which focuses on popular folks in the WoW community (they talked to our very own Turpster a while back, and have done an episode with Felicia Day as well). And apparently they've already talked to everybody else in the WoW community, because this week they made the mistake of inviting me on the show. They actually ask more about me personally than you'd ever want to know, but there's lots of great information about WoW Insider there as well, including who's really in charge around here, what we think of you great commenters, whether or not I'm really a fanboy, and things Blizzard could do better with their game. It's a long show (all of the How I WoW shows tend to be long, I think, and though I tried to keep it short, mine didn't end up being the exception), but if you're interested in me, the WoW Insider Show, or how we run the site in general, there should be something fun for you hear in there. Plus, you can hear me murder some French if you stick around long enough.
The episode is up right now on their site. Thanks to Patrick and Shawn for having me on there -- hopefully you'll enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it. And stay tuned -- we'll have to have both of them on the WoW Insider Show with us soon.
As promised, people who told me they listened to the whole show:

I could hear you shifting in your seat during the TB prodding. Nicely handled, Mike. We appreciate all you do!

The bowling museum is gone... hate to break it to you. The new Busch stadium made it go away.

That's a bummer. But Cecil Whittaker's is still in business, right? Do they still have half-price Mondays? Mmmmm toasted ravioli.

Doesn't Turpster work for WoWRadio, not at WoW Insider?
Thander Dec 19th 2008 11:58AM
Neither. He pretty much does his own thing now and makes appearances here and there.

I do work over at massively.com (WoW Insider's sister site) where you can catch TurpsterVision each week: http://www.massively.com/2008/12/19/turpstervision-weapon-of-choice/
Cheap plugs are the best!
I loved the show, great questions, great answers, love Patrick and Shawn, really great dynamic and learnt more than I needed to know about Mike, awesome!

Mike, I thought you gave a great interview. You came across smart, funny and you showed admirable tact when Patrick put you on the spot (I've got to give kudos to Patrick too for not taking the easy way out and skipping the questions lots of us longtime listeners had been wondering about).
And don't worry about how long it was. When I want a focused discusson the latest news and issues, I hit up podcasts like WoWInsider, The Instance, World of Warcast, BRK's mini-casts, etc. But How I WoW is a nice change-up, with a long casual conversation format that is always well worth setting aside the time for. It was really nice to learn more about you and how you joined WoWInsider (and what else you do -- like www.mikeschramm.com), how WoWInsider operates, your thoughts about commenters and lurkers, etc.
I came away even more a fan of WoWInsider and its co-lead. Keep up the great work.
P.S. -- Gotta agree with the guys though: "Grab your sword and fight the Horde." Never got past meh for me. :)

Ok, I know this might be completely inappropriate, but the dude with an accent is just a d-bag.
Vendrill Dec 19th 2008 4:19PM
Yeah, he was... Mike was being really cool and really positive.
That guy made a lot of snide comments. Schramm played it off cool. Yeah, the guy had his douchey moments.
David Dec 19th 2008 1:11PM
@Alex, Patrick has the guts to speak his mind. I see no reason for calling him that, at all.
Very nice interview, after I had listened to TB's account of what happened, it seemed very one sided. I now know both sides and it just confirms Michael isn't the bad guy he was made out to be.
Keep up the great work!
P.S. The keyword was Monkey!

Great interview! You, Patrick and Sean have a great chemistry and is was very refreshing. Patrick gets a "star" for pushing the envelope about the WC radio debacle...and you handled it perfectly! And the podcast didn't seem long, but maybe "Monkeys" would have stopped listening long ago....
Verymad Dec 19th 2008 3:09PM
Monkeyz!!!! hah ha .. nice :D
Michael Dec 19th 2008 3:28PM
Monkeys. for the wrynn.

Monkeys... Awesome interview Mike... I enjoyed the look into WoW insider... and you should have went for another hour or so!
Gemski Dec 20th 2008 10:33AM
This was a really enjoyable show. You might just have a shot at beating Turpster's show. :O
Tyrtle Dec 20th 2008 11:48AM
Monkeys! Great show. And they talked for over an hour after your interview.
Tumleren Dec 20th 2008 1:42PM
Monkeys for me too!
And I think that the comments by Patrick that have been regarded as intended to be hurtful were just attempts at ironic humour - At least that's what it appears to be to me (I use ironic and sarcastic humour non-stop, every single day).
But yea, good show, you come off as a cool guy

I just downloaded and listened to the "How I WOW" with the turpster to compare and contrast to Mike's. One thing hit me right off -- turpster talked sooooo much more of the time -- he just went off and the poor hosts couldn't even get a question in. T had me laughing for sure. Mike's interview in comparison was much more of a discussion or chat, and filled with lots more "meat". Both were very enjoyable.
