WoW Insider on How I WoW
Patrick Beja (who was on the WoW Insider Show not too long ago) and Shawn Coons host a great occasional podcast called How I WoW, which focuses on popular folks in the WoW community (they talked to our very own Turpster a while back, and have done an episode with Felicia Day as well). And apparently they've already talked to everybody else in the WoW community, because this week they made the mistake of inviting me on the show. They actually ask more about me personally than you'd ever want to know, but there's lots of great information about WoW Insider there as well, including who's really in charge around here, what we think of you great commenters, whether or not I'm really a fanboy, and things Blizzard could do better with their game. It's a long show (all of the How I WoW shows tend to be long, I think, and though I tried to keep it short, mine didn't end up being the exception), but if you're interested in me, the WoW Insider Show, or how we run the site in general, there should be something fun for you hear in there. Plus, you can hear me murder some French if you stick around long enough.
The episode is up right now on their site. Thanks to Patrick and Shawn for having me on there -- hopefully you'll enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it. And stay tuned -- we'll have to have both of them on the WoW Insider Show with us soon.
As promised, people who told me they listened to the whole show:

Dang, they totally took Mike as a hostage with a verbal assault. Schram sounded like he was on the phone with a telemarketer "monkey" and couldn't wait to get off the line a few time.
"Yeah guys, I have things to post on Wow Insider so any last questions?" ... 2.3 years later "Great interview guys, later."
Then Pattrick and Shaun go on for another eon after the interview. As a long time listener of the Instance (bring back Andrew!) I found this to be great listening though. Made half a shift fly by at work.
French people make me laugh, you little surrender monkeys are so cute.

Mike,
That was an excellent interview you gave on "How I WoW" and I have to point out that though I'm certain it was uncomfortable to speak on this topic, the information given about the split with WoW Radio was well done and quite helpful in fact as I was wondering what the true nature of the situation was. I listen to a vast number of WoW related PodCasts and hearing/reading about it from different sides and different points of view was a bit unnerving, so it was good to hear it straight from your mouth.
I agree with you that the DAoC information blog was well done and a good addition to the game community, and I think Blizzard would do well to institute a similar blog for WoW. There are very often times when I go to the main site to see news and I'm disappointed that the same post is at the top of the page from a week past.
The Gadgetzan Times is already a well thought out and designed news media inside WoW itself (though poorly utilized), I think if they expanded that, had some of the CM's and "Blues" make regular posts on the goings on in the game, plus allowing for players postings (viewed/approved first of course) it could be an excellent media source.
It would certainly have a more detail orientation then say WoW Insider, less stories more news posts if that makes sense. But it would keep the players up to date on issues that we would not go into the forums to find, because lets face it, the official WoW forums are terrible to read through.
I would certainly put my name in the hat for management of the newly reinvented Gadgetzan Times *hint hint* : )
I think having a news media that is game oriented, like the Times is, would be an excellent addition to the game and keep players a bit less in the dark. And frankly there is enough going on to have even a small daily post at the minimum.
Thanks for a great show and a great site, I am on WoW Insider almost every day!
