The nipples of dragons

The lackluster designs came under fire on the forums a few days back, and Zarhym was quick to defend the art team, saying that "the looks of the sets will improve as the seasons continue," and that if Blizzard had started the first sets with awesome designs, the latter seasons might see Thrall being worn around players' heads. It's a pretty funny joke, but I'm not quite sure it holds water. Zarhym continues to say that the design philosophy is that "in PvE you're killing very rare and challenging creatures of Azeroth, while in PvP you're receiving gear from the crafters (so to speak) of your faction to get you battle-ready."
He goes on to make a truly memorable line, "chances are you're going to be given the gear that'll get the job done rather than the gear that has to be constructed entirely out of the nipples of a 7,000 year-old dragon." Now that's pretty clever. It makes a lot of sense, too. Except, my question is, why can't 'crafted' gear that 'gets the job done' be, well, badass? Remember the Level 60 PvP sets? Now those were totally badass.
Who can forget the Horde Warrior plate shoulders? Or the truly noble and Paladin-perfect Alliance plate? In the new world of Wrath homogeneity, there isn't even any more faction-specific armor. Don't get me wrong, the new PvE armor designs are nice. In fact, it seems like Blizzard loved the Death Knight starting armor so much that they rehashed it for the new raid plate. But ever since Burning Crusade, there hasn't been any faction-specific armor sets.I don't think there's been any fantastic-looking PvP sets since the Warlord and Field Marshal days. In that respect, I think the designers have sort of slacked off. No, I don't want the nipples of 7,000-year old dragons, either, but are badass spikes and valorous eagles-on-shoulders really that hard to conceptualize? I think I'll side with the forum posters on this one and hope that something more interesting shows up in the future.

@ Simon.
What really matters to you by no means is what "really matters" to me. I don't give two rat's asses how well Hunters are in Arena. I do care that this game stays interesting and has meaningful content and inspired armor designs.

You ware the one who suggested everyone should care about what you think "realy matters". What I said was purely a sarcastic paraphrase of that. Think about it, maybe you get it.

I don't know, I kind of like the return of a more rough look to PvP armor. The PvE stuff should look amazing and epic like something that was kept for centuries by a dragon as a sign of a noble hero said dragon had killed. PvP armor should look like something made in Frostwolf Keep that you've been wearing for the last week without washing and won't get a chance to clean up before shipping off to take that lumbermill in the Arathi Highlands.
Basically, I like the new PvP armor design and hope they don't pretty it up too much as the expansion roles on. Though I would like to see a return to faction specific designs and, of course, I would like to see a return to the days when the best PvP armor came from fighting in a WAR instead of sandbox dueling.

100% Agreed. PvE armor= Epicly Shiny
PvP amor= Rugged and not quite shiny but coll nonetheless

Mabeye they dont think we care or something, well a majority of people care alot about appearance.
Keyra Dec 20th 2008 9:11PM
Although I am by no means anywhere NEAR getting epic gear, I must whole-heartedly agree with your statement.
I have actually passed on armor that was much better and had better stats because it looked fugly. I've turned down cloaks that were cheaper with better stats than the one I bought because the colors clashed horribly with the look of the rest of my gear, and I didn't want to resemble some discarded Christmas tree.
Blizzard needs to realize that though the gear may be better overall, human vanity does play a part in it. After all, it's humans who are playing, not automatons!
Mask Dec 20th 2008 7:45PM
People in arena gear deserve to look crappy. Go actually spend more than 1 hr a week playing and get some raid gear if you want to look nice. Welfare epics finally look like welfare gear?? Awesome!
Max Dec 20th 2008 9:03PM
amen.
Madrox Dec 20th 2008 8:51PM
PVE epics are the new welfare epics...
mbenitez1992 Dec 20th 2008 9:18PM
Mask, getting deadly glad gear is much harder than PvE especially in the state it's in. You just sound embittered and bad :P
Wayne Dec 20th 2008 7:48PM
I do agree that the new PvP gear is amazingly lame looking. Though, I can see where Blizz wouldnt make faction specific gear just because you'll hear people complain that one factions class gear looks better than the other.
With that said, they better make the new seasons pvp gear badass looking. It doesnt have to be "pretty" , just...badass.
Nothing tops the atrocity of the T5 Pally-ranger gear though. So at least we've been saved from that.

Zach, I am at a loss for words. The fact that you would put such filth not only on this site, but in the title disturbs me to my core. I have children than are online and you are making it incredibly easy for them to come into contact with this smut.
I expect, no, demand an immediate edit and apology and, failing that, I would ask the editors of this site to remove you from their pay. I don't know where you get off on talking about this kind of crap, but it's entirely inappropriate.
Eversor Dec 20th 2008 8:03PM
NIPPLES? IN MY SITE ABOUT KILLING PEOPLE AND WAR? UNACCEPTABLE!
Patrick B Dec 20th 2008 8:09PM
Troll or moron?
You decide... LMAO
JJ Dec 21st 2008 10:20AM
People, it's called satire. Do you really think a guy named "PimpyMcPimp" cares about the usage of the word "nipple?" His screen name should have made it obvious.
Kane Dec 20th 2008 8:28PM
Considering it was a quote from a blizzard employee, you should either stop complaining, or go ahead and quit the game.
Max Dec 20th 2008 9:03PM
This obviously isn't serious lol
Madrox Dec 20th 2008 8:51PM
what a POS... you fail miserably at your trolling efforts... i dont believe anyone could take something like this seriously when its coming from the profile of "PimpyMcpimp" QQ O NOES THE CHILDRENS MIGHT SEE THE WORDE NIPPLE AND AXE ME ABOUT THEMZ.... WHATZ WILL I SAYE?

Keyra Dec 20th 2008 9:16PM
Hey, everyone! Look! Alex the Troll created a new account in a desperate cry for attention because all of his comments were voted down to 1/2 star in mandy's article!
Cowy Dec 20th 2008 11:24PM
Not to be completly off topic, but would dragons even have nipples? I guess... its possible. If the young are more like Platypus or Echidna. (Mammals that are born in eggs). I was always under the impression that...
Oh forget it... a wizard did it.
A dirty dirty wizard.
