25-man Razuvious mage tanked
Instructor Razuvious is the first boss of the Military Quarter in Naxxramas. The typical strategy on the 25-man version of the the fight is to have a priest mind control one of his four adds and use that add to tank the boss, because Razuvious hits far too hard for normal tanks (hundreds of thousands on plate). But who needs a traditional strategy, right? A Team, of Stonemaul, decided they would do this fight with no priests.
The trick was to have a mage constantly spellsteal Bone Armor off of the trash leading up to Razuvious. The mage then tanked the fight, the healers kept the mage up, and all went well. The mage that had been tanking did die around 40%, but another mage hit the spellsteal, picked up the boss, and the fight went smoothly from there. There's a WWS available, if you're curious. The reason the mages don't come out on top for damage in is that it's all absorbed by Bone Armor (otherwise you'd have some very dead mages). Let's hear it for creative methods!

Hmm... Is it possible to have a mage specced for encanter's
absorption which makes 15% of damaged absorbed into spellpower? If so this could get interesting

anyone tried this yet?
that would be around 150k +dmg after first bone armor :D
one shotting razuvious anyone?

"but another mage hit the spellsteal, picked up the boss"
Did the mage spellsteal taunt too?
Verymad Dec 21st 2008 4:43PM
-.- the 2 mages were just probably both in the top 2 of threat meters

Hmmm...maybe you could, I don't know, watch the video?

Naw, we kept both mages up on aggro with MDs and tricks. I think we had a few die that were high on aggro just before the 2nd mage picked him up.

There's also a very fun strategy that involves chain-Distracting Shot (aka ranged Hunter taunt) and kiting Razuvious around in circles by 3 Hunters. Very fun to do, especially if you're one of the Hunters doing it, but also very easy to screw up, as one little mistake in timing and/or positioning usually costs the raid a wipe.
But still, very fun. Not to mention impressive. Albeit impossible to pull off if your hunters are brain-dead "huntards".

Aww thats my favorite fight as a shadow priest :P I can keep mc up for 2 taunts works out nicely. That hunter trick sounds like it would be really fun.

Woot! Go Stonemaul!
A Team gets some props too :P

Neat trick. Always wondered if it was possible but, being a shadow priest, the motivation to actually try it wasn't all that high.

Is the bone armor buff A LOT more from trash (like 90% or something in that range) because the typical buff is 75% and as a healer I can tell you those DKs take A LOT of damage, the only reason they live is because they have 400k hp
Sand Dec 21st 2008 5:27PM
The trash's bone armor works more like PW:Shield than the DK bone armor, and it absorbs an obscene amount of damage on heroic.

I sort of agree, but it shouldn't be mage-specific. It should be something along the lines of "defeat Instructor Razuvious without casting mind control". Of course, the difficulty with this is making an equivalent 10 man achievement (pretty much every heroic achievement has an equivalent 10 man achievement and vice-versa).
However, no title should be awarded. Instead of relying on a priest to successfully MC, you're simply relying on a mage to successfully spellsteal, or a hunter to successfully distracting shot - it's not a big enough increase in difficulty to warrant a title.

someone already said this in the forums, but this should be a new achievement. with a sweet title for the mage.

Reminds me of Vael in BWL: Tank until you die, then the next tank steps up

thats awesome, wouldve never thought of that, well done

From my experience, I'd just like to point out that the Instructor doesn't hit for "hundreds of thousands" of damage on plate. I'm a Warrior Prot tank and have 4 piece T7 and the most he's ever hit me for is 23K. It still hurts but it's not an instant one shot like the writer makes it out to be.

I raided Nax at 60 as a priest, and that is still my all time favorite fight!
I haven't gotten a chance to see the new version of the fight, but while it is the most stressed I've been while raiding, MCing Raz' adds was so fun!
