Breakfast Topic: Patch 3.0.8 excitement
Last week brought us a lot of news on patch 3.0.8, and with no sign of it hitting live realms particularly soon, we're bound to see a lot more. It's not a full blown content patch, so no new dungeons or raids, nothing of that sort. That doesn't mean it's not packed full of cool stuff, though. What are all of you looking forward to the most? There aren't a whole load of major class changes for my personal favorite class, Priests, but the one change there is for Shadow excites me a whole lot more than it really should. Glyph of Mind Flay will just cause the spell to slow the target a little less, rather than removing it entirely. Small change, but it will make life as a Shadow Priest so much easier. When dual specs roll around, I can just have a Healing set and a Shadow set of glyphs rather than a raid set, a soloing set, and a healing set.
Of course, I'll probably end up wanting PvP sets of glyphs and all of that too, but oh well. Swapping glyphs before and after every raid is one of the more annoying things in the world (of Warcraft). I can handle swapping for PvP if I can avoid doing it for raids, too. I guess there's some other Priest change, something about some healing spell, but I think I'll get shanked if I bring it up.
I'm also pretty stoked (yes, I said stoked) about the change to Relics of Ulduar. Being able to use them for Sons of Hodir reputation? Having the ability to sell those silly things off on the auction house when I'm done with them? That's fantastic.
I know Hunters most certainly are not looking forward to this patch (as needed as those nerfs may or may not be), but certainly a lot of people are. I know I have a few guild mates that are very excited about being able to get the Chef title now. So what about all of you? What's your favorite part of the upcoming patch?

Slow Fall and Levitate on others.
Better Frost Presence.
Raising my team mates and cackling madly about my undead army.

The removal of racial restrictions on mounts is the thing I'm looking forward to.
The further nerf of my healing abilities is something I am not looking forward to. As a resto druid I feel like I've been kicked enough since the LoLpatch ... another nerf to one of my spells ... blah
The gear, the quests, the skills between 70-80 ... why don't they just get rid of Balance & Resto druids ... as it seems the developers don't care about doing anything for the non-feral druids.

I am looking forward to a nice ranged single target taunt on my paladin tank. I will be getting a nice late X-mas gift from blizz.
wolfdust Dec 22nd 2008 9:31AM
I too will be looking forward to the single taunt for my pal.
I'm also looking forward to using avenging wrath without my hoop puckering up incase something goes tits up and i've got forbearance looming over me like a creepy pedo teacher

I'm most excited about the Mage changes, although Arcane is doing well at the lower end of Arenas, now that people are getting resilience and gearing up Arcane is quickly losing its burst dmg potential and we are almost forced back to the ol' frost builds... however arcane blast 30% dmg increase on targets will be very nice to experiment with.

Warlock Ritual of Summoning now plops down a 5 minute meeting stone. I'm expecting to get more invites to raids to execute my summon and kicked so I'm not saved

As a hunter, beast master even (since the game came out), I can say I don't really care one way or the other about the coming nerfs and changes.
teh_wild_knight Dec 22nd 2008 9:55AM
The two things I'm most looking forward to is the lifting of the mount restrictions (Tauren here) and the overhaul of warrior DPS glyphs (which suck so bad right now).

Excited:
-Changes to DK Glyphs
-Buff to Frost Presence
-Rep for Sons way easier
Sad:
-Nerf of Bone Shield
Everything else in the patch looks pretty good to me.

let's see, i'm a holy priest. What do I get this patch. Well, there's a coh nerf. There's a titansteel guardian nerf. Maybe I get more pvp survivability? Nope, still 100-0 before a stun wears off. I dunno, i'm all out of ideas.

The addition of the meta socket and blue socket to the tanking helm crafted by blacksmiths was huge to me, I was rather excessively disappointed that it had not been added at launch and effectively ignored the helm for instance drop blues. No more, now I can craft me some tanking goodness there too.

Is this absolutely certain? I know it's not in the patch notes, but MMO-Champion seem fairly sure this will happen.
I have been farming mats for this item, and wasn't sure whether to wait to get this item crafted.

@kais
I'm pretty sure the mmochamp image is from the test realm, and the change is a logical one, so i'm going with it being included in .08 heh.

My enhancement shammy is not looking forward to the changes to Mental Quickness at all.
Currently Mental Quickness gives me 30% of AP as spellpower.
After the change I'll get 70% of my agility as spellpower.
I'll lose almost 50% of my spellpower. Yeah, thanks Blizz. And what do I get to look forward to? My fire and magma totems no longer generate threat? Great.... because I wouldn't want to keep out my flame-tongue totem for the extra spellpower, now would I?
So I guess I'm looking forward to leveling my warlock. =(

I thought I read that the first patch after Wrath would include the new ability for ground mounts to swim. Is this true? Is it still happening?

As a pre-raid DK who occasionally tanks, I'm looking forward to the additional options for stacking DEF that are coming:
Titansteel Defender: 2H Blacksmithing Sword, 89 STR, 133 STA, 90 Def Rating
Tanking Sigil: 53 Def Rating from Icy Touch
New 2H Runeforge Weapon Enchant: 25 Defense and 2% Stamina.
These allow a lot more flexibility for picking up higher stam or better mitigation items in other slots while still staying uncrittable.

The change I'm most anticipating is getting to Roll a Deathknight
on any server provided we have at least one lvl 55 character.
Now a friend we've been wanting to join us can, and not need to start a lvl1 toon to do it.
Mage_Pol Dec 22nd 2008 12:23PM
Is anyone else wondering what happened to 3.0.5, 3.0.6 and 3.0.7?
cearrdorn Dec 22nd 2008 12:51PM
Patch progression is sometimes done in beta builds, not just release builds, blizzard has repeatedly stated their release versions don't have to make sense outside of their own environment.
You can see the same sort of progression in mods, you'll see 3 versions before a patch comes out of some mods, only to see 5 after the patch drops, all related to the same actual patch.

Really looking forward to those changes to the arcane tree. Specifically, the change to Arcane Blast and ability for Torment of the Weak to work against more enemies (read:bosses). This should boost Arcane, Fire/Arcane, and Frost/Arcane raid specs into serious competition with Frostfire elementalist spec, without making that one worthless.
Personally, I'm going to switch to a deep arcane spec. Arcane has always been my pet spec, and I will play it every time it's viable without fail.
