The Queue: Frost resistance, hot or not?
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.
We're very light today, as most Mondays are. Coming off the weekend when everyone is playing instead of reading we're pretty short on questions that aren't repeats! No need for elongated excuses, though. Let's dig into the few questions we do have.
Phyalt asked...
As a healing Priest should I be worried about frost resist going into Naxx?
You don't really need any Frost Resist going into Naxx 10. It can help, but you can easily beat the encounter without it. Naxx 25 is more difficult and the Frost Resist helps immensely. However, if your raid performs very well and you stack an extra healer or two, your raid can pretty much skip it. It will definitely require a lot of extra work, though. The DPS will need to be very good about getting out of Sapphiron's Blizzards, the Healers will need to be on top of their game.
If you want to make the learning curve a little (a lot) easier, the Frost Resist is a good idea, but it's only for one fight. If you trust your raid to perform perfectly, don't worry about it. Want to make your life easier? Get the frost resist.
moonspeaker asked...
Is there any use for BG marks anymore or should I just turn them all in for honor/mounts?
For the moment, I believe it's just honor and mounts. Will that change? Maybe. We haven't heard either way. Personally, I like it. I don't mind grinding honor if I can do it in a battleground I enjoy. Grinding marks is the worst part of PvP.
Will this have bigger ramifications, like nobody running Warsong Gulch because the honor sucks? Maybe! I bet if queue times get all screwed up because of this, we'll see some changes in patch 3.1, or maybe as late as Season 6. If you want to play it safe, keep a fair amount of Marks on hand. If you don't care either way, buy yourself some honor!
Maddeh asked...
Why is there that giganto hippogryph thing at Orebor Harborage?
Because Blizzard's sense of scale is... unusual at times.

I have a crazy question, will come off as a newb too. Is there a good place to find out about hit cap's and the other interesting stat caps out there? I've read some on spell haste, etc, but as a new DK I need to learn about the better tank/dps obscure bits. I've read up on STR and AP, but the hit cap kinda eludes me still.
Thanks.

Best place with the breakdowns for each class, and talent depending is Wowwiki.
Melee: http://www.wowwiki.com/Hit
Caster: http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit

Actually most of the stuff posted on wowwiki is just being copied from elitistjerks.com, where all the real research is done- check out http://elitistjerks.com/f72/.

Thanks for the replies. I also actually searched and found the Lichborne series of bits here on wowinsider.
Thanks again.

I've always wondered about that Hippogryph

You don't need any Frost Resist gear. Having cleared Naxx25 weekly, no one has ever worn one scrap of FrR gear. Most is a pally with aura. It's not worth the dps loss, or healing loss. Smart play negates the need for the FrR.
Erika Dec 22nd 2008 11:24AM
You can also get a frost dk with the frost aura. I am not sure if it stacks with pali/shaman because i haven't met a frost yet. They are all blood or unholy....
jaxson_bateman Dec 22nd 2008 11:38AM
Most non-consumable resistance buffs (that is, spells) do not stack. For example, MotW, Frost Resistance Totem, Frost Resistance Aura and the DK frost resistance ability do not stack at all.
Arivia Dec 22nd 2008 11:50AM
MotW and Paladin Auras do stack.
jaxson_bateman Dec 22nd 2008 11:57AM
They stack in the sense that you still get the *other* bonuses from MotW (the other resistances and the +stats). You don't get the resistance bonus.
Try it next time you see a druid. You'll only get 130 frost resistance (from the aura), provided you aren't wearing any FrR gear.

This column is a joke anyways, Saph 10-man is war harder than 25. If you've actually done both fights (as the author apparently hasn't) then you'd know this.
Alex Ziebart Dec 22nd 2008 12:25PM
@James
Maybe that was your experience. Good on you. Unfortunately, all raids are different, so your experience is not necessarily the same as mine, which isn't necessarily the same as some other random raid.
You can try to make more assumptions about my raid experience, though. It makes me smile when people do.

What's the best way to go about reporting name violations? Is there any plan to introduce a better mechanic for this? I don't mean to be a killjoy, but the RP servers are overrun with non-RP names. Even with the revamped ticket system, I still feel a bit silly opening a ticket every time. I understand Blizzard's stance is reactive, not proactive, but still...they just change one letter and Meshéepyou is back in action.
Max Dec 22nd 2008 11:36AM
What is so wrong about having one letter different...
do you realize how frustrating it is that the name you really want is taken, and its probably taken by somebody's level 10 alt that hasn't been played in a year?
Don't be such a killjoy. Dicks like you ruin this game.
Xythan Dec 22nd 2008 11:42AM
@Max I'm talking about after a name gets reported for name violation, they just change or remove one letter, the name is still in violation, and they go on about their business. I'm not talking about people who roll with accented letters from day 1 (an entirely different issue).
@TonyMotorola I'm not an emo RPer, and I don't RP, but I do play on an RP server, and there are some serious asshats with names that make me want to gouge my eyes out. And every time they get reported, they just change one letter...sometimes this goes on for months. It's pretty ridiculous.
I'm on your side here...trying to put them in their place!
Deathofmoo Dec 22nd 2008 11:47AM
Max and Tony are idiots. If you don't care about RP and don't respect it, stay off those servers and don't ruin the experience for other people. I don't RP and don't play on those servers, but I sure as hell ain't gonna bash others for doing it. I'm sure both of you brainiacs do something other people make fun of; hell, if nothing else, you play WoW, you nerds.
hold up Dec 22nd 2008 11:47AM
So what your saying is that a rogue with the name Pwnsurmom is not acceptable on a RP server?!
What kind of world are we living in? /wrists
rosencratz Dec 22nd 2008 11:49AM
Max and Tony
Why do you care? Either you play on RP servers in which case you probably owuld agree with Xythan OR you don't play on Rp servers in which case it's not your problem...
Have you missed his point? A name like Mesheepyou is not meant to be allowed on RP servers and some people join RP servers because of the extra rules attached, to report someone only to have his name be made more or less identical is a bit annoying surely? It's not suprising to see RP'ers get frustrated for the same reason we saw some PvE'ers get frustrated during the PvP'esque Zombie plague world event(Which was great btw)
They picked their server for the rules that server "appears" to have, if it's broken and flaunted at them they'll be frustrated and unless you only liek RP servers to log in and spoil other peoples games i can't see why you'd complain about his comments.
Personally i don't want to RP and so i don't play on such a server... i can't work out why others who don't, would, to be honest.
Gemski Dec 22nd 2008 11:54AM
I don't even rp and I want to report people with letters like é in their name. I also wouldn't mind reporting names like cowtank, irtank, imhealer, retpally, deadmage, etc.
Xythan Dec 22nd 2008 11:59AM
@rosencratz, thank you. to reiterate: I don't RP, my guild does not RP, but I do play on an RP-PvP server for several reasons, including the extra rules attached.
I would understand if this was something like the Scourge Invasion, where the RP adherents ended up being the griefers, cleansing us zombie lovers before we could transform (before the crazy timer and cleanse resistance). That was a one-off thing, though, and like I said, this has the tendency to go on for months in the case of some players, continually changing one letter each time they're reported.
@gemski this is exactly what I'm talking about. on RP and RP-PvP servers, these names are not permitted. From personal experience, though, it's gotten a lot worse in the last few months.
