As a current and past raid leader I have a few thoughts on this.
I will agree to many of the positive aspects of 40 man raids (challenge, building relationships, etc.) .
In fact, we have almost 40 80s in our raiding team now...
However, in taking MANY of the factors into account, especially from a leader/organizer perspective: NO.
Not just no, but hell no.
You can get all those positives in a 25 man (and some 10).
I would (and do) rather organize 2 25 man runs, or 4 10's before doing a 40.
For those that say "no big deal" have not had to manage the sheer logistical nightmare, and the excessive ego issues associated with raiding...showing up to raid is easy...making sure others can show up an raid is the work.
