Second time through Northrend

Obviously this is in large part due to the fact that you're not competing with everyone for the same kills. When I did the Ned, Lord of Rhinos quest the first time it was a chaotic melee as something like twelve groups (groups, as in two or three people per) vied to tag the guy as soon as he spawned. And even as parties would get their kill and move on, more would keep arriving so that some people waited for upwards of an hour while those that have the better instant casts tended to get the tag off. When I did the quest on my shaman a couple of weeks ago, it was much more managable, I basically just waited until the horde party tagged him and got him on the respawn. And when I did it on my night elf last night, I basically had Ned all to myself. Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord are effectively deserted compared to their state after the launch.
I do wonder if I'm in some kind of lull between when most folks got their mains to 80 and started working on whatever their consider the endgame, be it full-time raiding or PvP or what have you, and the inevitable decision to level their alts. I know a few people in my former guild were totally uninterested in their alts even when I was leveling mine, and even I have to admit I haven't touched my horde-side characters. (I'm actually surprised by this, as I expected I'd jump right on them.) The fact that we're smack dab in the middle of the December holiday rush might also be having an effect, as people simply have other things to do than play right now.
Still, it makes going through these zones sort of lonely. I actually turned general chat back on last night and no one was talking. No poorly spelled complaints about lag (and to be honest, no real lag that I noticed), no 25 minute rants about anyone's mothers, not even any desperate PuG's looking for a healer with three paladins and a druid in the group. Borean seemed almost deserted, and I quested and leveled through the zone with no one to compete with (which was good) and also no one to group with for Last Rites (which was less good).
Have you been working on your alts yet? Is it 'too soon' for you, are you still on your main or just taking some time to enjoy 80 before moving to alts?

Basically all done with my main for a while, besides weekly raiding. Got all the badge gear i wanted, and all the heroic epics. So now I am working on my (73 now) warrior.
Enjoying the questing the second time around much more. Saving 10, killing 20, or harvesting 5; it just goes so much faster.

Too soon. I'm behind due to holiday stuff. Once my main hits 80 in a week or so, since I committed him to healing for folks, I'll finally be able to chill out and enjoy my favorite alts. The gold boost from 2 questing 70-80 alts will be quite enjoyable also.
That said, looootta 80's already about in my guild. We'll see how much longer until the alt zerg hits.

same, kinda slow goin healin PuGs for all my exp. but i just love healing too much. I am excited though about playing my dk, which gets a very small amount of play time at the moment, mostly when no ones in lfg...but i'll be on him quite a bit for sure once my priest hits 80.

I'm still enjoying my 80 priest, doing heroics and raids. I plan on lvling my pally as soon as my bf gets WotLK so he can lvl with me. :)

I'm still leveling all of my alts. I just hit level 70 on my main, and I have a few blowing through their upper 40's. I haven't gotten WotLK yet, because I planned on it being more dead and hope this is still the case when I try to run through with a few guys.
Kalmus Dec 23rd 2008 2:50PM
You haven't run across the awesome DK/Pally/Druid groups LF tank and heals?
Quiz Dec 23rd 2008 2:41PM
I leveled two 80 at the same time during the rush and, yeah, the toughest part was trying to get the kills you needed with so many others trying to tag the same mob.
I'm finding a different problem now: no one wants to run heroics anymore, because everyone has bought everything they could with the tokens and have exalted rep with all factions so there's just no point in running them anymore. More items purchasable for tokens would be nice.

Still not 80 here, but my army of alts continues to level. I find some of the stuff at the lower levels is a bit faster and I haven't had as much long-run time to play.
With that said, I look forward to hitting 80 and getting those nice shoulder items and other heirloom stuff. It should make leveling the army of alts even faster.

That's what I did. After my druid hit 80 and got some emblems, the first thing I bought with them was the plate melee shoulders for my DK. I might have bought something for my druid first, but I've been respeccing so much, I have no idea if I'll wind up using an item for more than a week. Dual specs can't get here fast enough.
In addition to my main, my DK is 64 by now, and I also have two horde toons still level 70 parked in inns in the Northrend starting zones. But there's still a lot of stuff I want to get done on my druid (I think I'm about 200 quests shy of Loremaster of both Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, I want to get them before I get the Icecrown quest achievement so I can ding "The Final Goal" last of all), so I think they'll remain on vacation in the inns for a while yet. They're probably already maxed out on rest exp.

I am leveling all 4 of my pre-LK 70's before moving into end-game content. i like to have more than one option as to who i can take into what raid/heroic, that way i'll always be able to find a good group.
Vaellen Dec 23rd 2008 2:46PM
got my Main (Gnome Rogue) to 80 last week, and decided to work on the 3 alts i have in their mid 50's, I think my Hunter will be second to 80, then my druid, then probably my DK, then i'll work on my Shaman who is currently 63.
Might try to get a piece of Heirloom gear (Shoulders) for the Hunter and Shaman to share tho... not sure yet.
Harmun Dec 23rd 2008 2:46PM
I really am not looking forward to all the work needed to get my alt to 80 from 71, but my main is DPS and I'm having serious trouble finding healers to do heroics. If I go back and level my alt, it'll be as a healer, which I'm not willing to do until I can have dual specs.
memblin Dec 23rd 2008 2:47PM
Got my main (shaman) to 80 the week after release along with the other run run run folks. After that went back and leveled my Hunter to 80 to have a DPS on standby, and then went back for my Warrior for a Tank on standby. I'm working on my Druid and Rogue in unison now along with toying with a Deathknight when I get bored.

I am on my 1st alt now and started her 10 level journey on friday. I gotta say I remember why I love leveling a hunter with a gorilla :D.
They're at 76 now and starting to stock up on the gold to grab epic flying for um!
My main is 80, sitting in some nice 10 and 25's gear and just enjoying the topping of charts as Shadow

My friends and I rerolled about two months before wotlk hit, and so we were still making our way to OL while everyone else was fighting over kobold spawns in Borean Tundra. We just started Wotlk last week- and it's been pretty nice, being a little behind.
We get to take our time and enjoy the amazing scenery, don't have to worry about tagging spawns, and our guildies have already done the instances a few times, so they know all the boss strategies.

I leveled my Priest due to the lack of end-game healers. It was much easier the second time around. I hit 80 at the end of Zul'Drak thanks to rested XP. The huge number of quests you have to turn in, and the comparative lack of XP gained by killing mobs put me in a constant state of rest. It went pretty fast.
Nuit Dec 23rd 2008 2:49PM
I'm an admited kill stealer. Alliance hates me, spit on me, and make rude gestures. I hug them back. I invite fellow hordies in group before I kill steal. That's how my level 70 to 80 went, and how I did all the quests in Northrend. No queues for me for mobs. ^_^

Very close to dinging 76 on my Shaman in Dragonblight, where I have planned on taking my time and completing every quest chain for the acheivement. The time it takes for me to get to 80 is much less important than grinding for leather, trying to catch up my fishing skill, or collecting the large amounts of gold needed to get my main flying for the first time.
I plan on working on an alt after I've been satisfied with my Shammy, perhaps a hunter (who can benefit from my LW skills) or my priest (since there is apparently a healing shortage.)
I still run into people left and right in Dragonblight, and not just DKs. I don't have a problem at all grouping with people to take down elite mobs or do quests. Instancing has been easy, too. While some of my guildies are all sitting at the max and getting bored (they ran Heroic MgT the other night for RP gear. Yes, *RP* gear. They were done in 30 minutes) I am enjoying the slow, scenic route to 80.
Kuroyume Dec 23rd 2008 2:51PM
On Feathermoon the zones are emptier, but not empty enough that you can't find groups for the group quests that need them (like Last Rites).
If anything, i think right now isprobably the best time to be leveling up...
Ezzy Dec 23rd 2008 2:51PM
I already got one alt to 80. I was supposed to level my shaman concurrently with my mage main. It didn't work that way. In fact I lost interest in leveling my alt until a week ago. Rested is nice. :-D
Now to grind reps and gear up again. :-\
