Second time through Northrend

Obviously this is in large part due to the fact that you're not competing with everyone for the same kills. When I did the Ned, Lord of Rhinos quest the first time it was a chaotic melee as something like twelve groups (groups, as in two or three people per) vied to tag the guy as soon as he spawned. And even as parties would get their kill and move on, more would keep arriving so that some people waited for upwards of an hour while those that have the better instant casts tended to get the tag off. When I did the quest on my shaman a couple of weeks ago, it was much more managable, I basically just waited until the horde party tagged him and got him on the respawn. And when I did it on my night elf last night, I basically had Ned all to myself. Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord are effectively deserted compared to their state after the launch.
I do wonder if I'm in some kind of lull between when most folks got their mains to 80 and started working on whatever their consider the endgame, be it full-time raiding or PvP or what have you, and the inevitable decision to level their alts. I know a few people in my former guild were totally uninterested in their alts even when I was leveling mine, and even I have to admit I haven't touched my horde-side characters. (I'm actually surprised by this, as I expected I'd jump right on them.) The fact that we're smack dab in the middle of the December holiday rush might also be having an effect, as people simply have other things to do than play right now.
Still, it makes going through these zones sort of lonely. I actually turned general chat back on last night and no one was talking. No poorly spelled complaints about lag (and to be honest, no real lag that I noticed), no 25 minute rants about anyone's mothers, not even any desperate PuG's looking for a healer with three paladins and a druid in the group. Borean seemed almost deserted, and I quested and leveled through the zone with no one to compete with (which was good) and also no one to group with for Last Rites (which was less good).
Have you been working on your alts yet? Is it 'too soon' for you, are you still on your main or just taking some time to enjoy 80 before moving to alts?

I'm on my 3rd to 80, currently at 78.

i was only a few DAYS behind in getting WotLK, and i had a very easy time
not all to myself as i sometimes did have to wait for mobs or set my gorilla to agressive to ensure instant tag, but it was a much easier time than my guildies had while still having enough people around to group with randomly for the RARE group quest that i could not do alone (monkey tank FTW)
started leveling my druid recently and i actually feel wierd not seeing anyone around only plus right now is that i seem to have most herb spots to myself at least in the Fjord, apparently not many people on my server are doing the 2hour epic flying herb picking binges i used to do lol

In general I can only get to play off-peak hours, but even then I usually see people running around in Dragonblight and some areas of Storm Peaks... however, pretty much everywhere else I go... ghost town.

I finally started leveling Antonia up after making her my alt instead of keeping her my main.. not really looking foward to it tho..

I tend to be a bit of an unfocused altoholic but this time round I
sternly kept myself off my alts until my main was not only 80 but
also raid ready.
My guild had plans to start raiding as soon as possible, and was as
usual short of tanks and healers. Most of the first to 80 were
tankish types (and eventually a few healers made it too) but almost
without exception they dinged 80 and either vanished completely or
turned right around and started levelling alts. DPS alts.
Now they're busy fretting over snagging a DPS spot in heroics and
raid, for runs that aren't usually going to happen because there
aren't enough geared tanks and healers for them.
So now I'm going to level my alts quietly, not really because I want
to, but for a break. I love healing and I think it's great that I get as many heroic runs as I could possibly want, but the pressure's on.

I'm still not to 80. I just haven't had time, with the holidays.
I have:
One 74 Warlock
One 73 Hunter
One 71 Priest
I've worked on crafting some. I have Inscription to 350. I feel way behind my guild mates. :( I hope I can catch up a little next week when I have some time off.

I had my Mage at 70 for months and months before LK came out but about 2 weeks prior to its release I started a Hunter and boy I just haven't looked back. My Hunter turned into my main, has maxed Mining and (just about) maxed Inscription. My Mage on the other hand is now level 71 with just over 400 Herbalism and 325 Alchemy. I just can't seem to get into the game with him anymore, I think the pew pew has spoiled me.
I'm presently working on a Paladin who I've gotten to 47 with 300 Enchanting and 325 Skinning. And I just started a rogue to use all that leather for leatherworking and an undecided secondary profession. I'd think another skinner would be smart but who knows.

As soon as I heard how hunters were getting it in the cojones as of patch 3.0.8, I've been leveling him during the weekends racing to beat the big nerfs.
So far, level 77. I prolly will hit 80 before 3.0.8. If it wasn't for that, I would still be focused on my main, my DK.
Wulfkin Dec 23rd 2008 11:27PM
Levelling up in Northrend with my DK alt will be blissful for two reasons:
1. Northrend is awesome.
2. Anything beats the endless nights I've spent levelling up mining just so that I can make something useful!

While I have enjoyed endgame since hitting 80 a few weeks back on my warrior, I've also been working on several alts from time to time. I am very thankful that Northrend has two starting zones and that my main didn't do much in Borean Tundra, since I tend to get bored having to level thru the same zones over and over. I'm really finding that out with Hellfire Peninsula, which was one of my least favorite zones in the game the first time through. Now, having levelled a priest and paladin (both just about ready for Northrend) through HFP recently, and with a mage and hunter just starting off there now, I am thoroughly sick of the place. WTB new 58-62 zone!

My main is only level 73 T_T
