I've bought a few items and it seems easier with a very big caveat:

Strand and Wintergrasp return an awful lot of honor for wins, and Wintergrasp isn't bad even in a loss.

Strand will probably be the new AV for honor grinding because it is far faster, and thus far more honor per hour.
