Wrath 101: Getting your dungeon reputation tabards
Reader Paul K. sent us a query today about how to go about getting each of the champion dungeon tabards available at level 80, and since I'm about to hit level 80 (hopefully will be doing it tonight), I figured I'd do the work so the rest of you don't have to. Wearing these tabards will give you faction reputation for whatever tabard you're wearing in the endgame 5mans, so instead of running Steam Vaults over and over and over for Cenarion Expedition rep (oh man am I tired of that grind), you can just put on one of these, and then run whatever instances you want. There are currently four factions that you can champion in the game, and all of the tabards for each are available at Friendly. So you'll need at least friendly with all of the factions -- Wyrmrest Accord, Knights of the Ebon Blade, Kirin Tor, and the Argent Crusade -- before you go around to pick them all up. Getting there isn't hard at all -- if you've leveled by questing, you should have built up the necessary reputation (the one exception in my case is the Knights of the Ebon Blade -- I'm neutral right now, but I haven't really done any questing in Icecrown yet at all).
After the jump, a list of where you need to go to get each tabard.
Wyrmrest Accord
This is very much a Dragonblight faction -- doing the Wrathgate quests (which you should have done anyway, they're aweseome) and any other quests you find in the big Dragonblight zone should get you up to Friendly. Tabard of the Wyrmrest Accord is available from their Quartermaster in Wyrmrest Temple, Cielstrasza, who totally is a dragon, for 1g at Friendly.
Knights of the Ebon Blade
Dutchess Mynx sells this tabard for 1g at Friendly, but in order to have access to her, you first need to complete the Shadow Vault quests in Icecrown. The chain starts off with "It's All Fun and Games," and running it to finish will not only let you see some great phasing action in one of the last instances in the game so far, but probably rep you right up to Friendly anyway.
Argent Crusade
Unfortunately, the old Tabard of the Argent Dawn that we got from the world event doesn't work in this case. You need to upgrade to the Tabard of the Argent Crusade, available from their quartermaster in Icecrown. You'll find him at the Argent Vanguard camp to the southeast.
Kirin Tor
This is the faction of the old mages in Dalaran -- if you need rep to get to Friendly, you can find them scattered around the world, or you can do Dalaran dailies, including the normal Dungeon daily quests. You can find the quartermaster in the city's Violet Citadel, and he'll sell you the tabard for 1g when you've got the rep for it.
There you go -- you can run around and get one or all of them, and then whenever you don one of the tabards, you'll get a buff that lets you gain reputation for the faction of your choice when running the endgame and heroic instances. It's probably a good guess that future patches will add in new factions to champion, so as soon as you hit 80, it's probably a good idea to run around and grab the tabards so you have them whenever you head off to an instance.
Now if only they'd give us a tabard closet to keep all of these things in...

Just a note to add that not wearing ANY tabard increases your reputation with the Alliance / Horde.

Vanguard.
It raises rep with the Vanguard.

Using the tabards, I have Argent Crusade and Ebon Blade at exalted now.
I must also note that there are dailies for both Argent Crusade and Ebon Blade that give rep.
Ebon dailies in Icecrown are worth a whopping 1500 rep a day.
Argent Crusade Dailies in Icecrown and Zul Drak can be maxxed at appx 1000 a day, if you complete the Troll Patrol run in tiem and get the bonus.

850 if you complete Pa'troll under time
250 for Slaves to Saronite
250 for Pa'troll
350 for Congratulations
(if you know of any other dailies please let me know)
Really if you want AC rep you need tabards.

You also get around 75 rep for each of the mini-quests in Troll Patrol
Amaxe Dec 30th 2008 6:49AM
No you don't. Blizz pulled that because people were doing the quests, dropping Pa'troll, reacquiring it and doing the 4 quests again to stack rep.
Now you just get gold for doing the subquests

To correct an error, it seems that the Patrol quest was recently bumped to 350. I would have bet money that it was 250 yesterday, so I wonder if there was a Hotfix involved. So a total of 950 honor/day outside of the instances
I will confirm that you do not get any honor on the subquests though.
Arrgh, I want that epic mail chestpiece...

I love the idea of these tabards rather than having to run the same instances over and over for rep. Unfortunately I really only wanted one of the reps. As a druid, flying mounts have ZERO appeal to me as they are not instant cast.

Just wanted to note that you do not need to be in Icecrown to start working on Ebon Blade quests. There is a neat chain at Ebon Watch in Zul'Drak(mid 70's) where you get to run around as a ghoul. That chain and other misc Ebon Blade quests in the area should give you a nice starting boost for the faction.
Ilnara Dec 29th 2008 6:47PM
There are also 3 quests for the Horde at Agammars Hammer in Dragonblight.
In service of Frost/Blood/Unholy available after you do some of the initial questing in that area.

Great information. Didn't know about Knights of the Ebon Blade. Anyone know of a walkthrough to get to Friendly? Or is that quest chain of 3 quests (accoring to wowhead) all that is needed for Friendly?
InsaneAssault Dec 29th 2008 6:38PM
You pick up a quest item (Unliving Choker) from trolls in the area which you turn in to an Ebon Blade npc at Ebon Watch. He then starts you on the ghoul chain I mentioned earlier.
Azzarrea Dec 29th 2008 11:56PM
Awesome tip on that, thanks InsaneAssault . With that information I was able to get 3/4 of the way to friendly! The rest should be quick!

Word on the tabard closet. I'm Revered with Wyrmrest and knew the tabard would give me rep in instances. But I don't have room for more tabards. I got the ones I needed for the initial achievement but after that, I'm not buying any more. I just got exalted with Stormpike and would like their tabard. No way. Come on, Blizz, please? Can we have a closet or a bag in which we can store these?
Hesston Dec 29th 2008 7:03PM
You have an entire bank with six or seven bag slots. How much more room do you need?
Gimmlette Dec 29th 2008 7:24PM
Gear sets; mats for my profession; stuff like the mallet for ZF, which, as a GL, I USE because I will run guild members through ZF if they can't get a similar level group; food and drink; items needed for quests I'm not currently working on...
If you're going for the 10 tabard achievement, it means HALF of an 18-slot bag in your bank is tabards, assuming you wear your guild tabard. Just because you don't collect things doesn't mean everyone else doesn't collect things.
Potato Dec 29th 2008 9:15PM
You don't have to keep the tabard in order for it to count towards the achievement. When i get access to a new tabard, i just buy it, then vendor it back to the NPC.
This should free up half of your 18 slot bag! :)
Amaxe Dec 30th 2008 9:05AM
Yes... I keep the ones I need for rep and the rares (Argent Dawn world event, Draenei quest at 20, "The Explorer"). Guess I need to go back to Outland if I want 25 tabards though...
zappo Dec 30th 2008 9:14AM
To some extent you can use the tabard vendor for this. Take a look next time your around and note the ones sold that you already have. You can then just vendor them and repurchase them if you want to wear them again. I'm sure a few of those you're only using for rep or whatever, so there is no reason to keep them. The achievement counts tabards as soon as you get them, not if you have them in your inventory.

Don't forget to keep an eye on your rep. I got exhalted with Wyrmrest just before the first boss in a heroic run one time. I wanted to work on my Kirin Tor next but I didnt have my tabard on me so I wasted 3/4 of a run getting rep I didn't want. Just a heads up. Currently have Wyrmrest and Kirin Tor exhalted. Very close to exhalted with Ebon Blade, but since there is so many dailies for them in a nice compact area of Icecrown im going to start wearing my Argent tabard now. And almost Revered with Sons of Hodir. The sooner you get their the better. When I first unlocked the quests there was hardly anyone there, now I see more and more people farming eternals and scouting for the everfrost chips. Plus the Thrust Hodir's Spear quest is pretty fun.
