A table for Horde, please
Emkephalin from Terenas sent us this picture of a wonderful Christmas present created for him by his mother. As the story goes, Emkephalin introduced his mother WoW a few years ago, like so many other players who play with their family. She waited until she'd officially retired before starting the game, which probably was a wise move. In a few short days, she reached the limits of what you can do on a trial account, and immediately went out and picked up her full retail copy.
Flash forward to this Christmas season. Among WoW-playing and scuba diving, it turns out Emk's mother also creates tile mosaics. You can imagine his surprise when Emkephalin removed the wrapping paper from the top of this table to see the wonderful Horde pattern created on the right. Emk was obviously pleased enough to drop us a tip, as well as a picture link to see it for ourselves.
This is a continuation of how WoW has inspired people for the season. I can't wait to see what next year brings, and am probably going to invest my time between now and then to learn how to make something myself. It certainly would be awesome to enjoy coffee over such a distinctive table.

Well done.

That is very, very cool. It's also great to see people getting their families into the game and playing with them - makes a nice balance to all the doom'n'gloom "hopeless addict" stories. *grin*

I know a guy who knew a guy who got arrested for installing WoW on a library computer after getting evicted from his apartment (also WoW related..).
Addicts are real, but luckily, they are the minority.

That seems like a double standard to me - WoW has libraries in-game!
I guess it's a little like the RIAA hating the internet. Poor old establishments. Won't miss you.

@Dillon, I know no one will read this the next day, but really? An anti-library comment?
Libraries are essential for providing access to information, most of which is not available on the internet. Libraries are one of society's great achievements, not some once moneyed establishment. Please.
Additionally, for many people who cannot afford internet access the library is their only opportunity to use your vaunted interwebs.

Usually, I'm not a fan of a lot of the WoW-inspired crafts, but that is actually pretty tasteful and really pretty--I'd put it on my patio, at least.:)

Looks perfect for putting drinks and snacks on it while playing WoW. :-D

It matches my horde teacup set! (-:

...you have no idea how much I now wish there really was a Horde teacup set.

Very very cool gift!
Also, reading about a trial account made me want to share a tip for anyone extending one of those in a busy holiday season:
Make sure your recruited trial friend knows that if they try to log in during a busy server time where there is a queue, they will continually be pushed to the back of the line :(
Tried to help a friend get on and play last night and she started at 150, only to end up at 230 a few minutes later. It was strange that there was no mention of that being the reason why either - seems like it would be pretty persuasive to me ;)

If only I had a mother like that...
jbodar Dec 30th 2008 10:24PM
Yeah, my mom is the kind of person who loves printing reams-worth of articles off the internet and plays Noah's Ark. I love her anyway, though. ;)

This is awesome! Nicely done and not tacky at all!
My father plays computer games - specifically, Command & Conquer. He also likes to play Delta Force 2, which is what started me into first-person graphics games. I started playing online with other people and this was sort of a primer for me into WoW.
Back in my AD&D days, he tried to get involved in it as he was curious about what my brother and I were so interested in. He didn't like it, primarily due to the DM hiding the dice when rolling for wandering monsters, save vs. whatever and the like. However, I think he might like WoW. I'll have to get him set up with a trial account and see what he thinks. The worst that could happen is, "Nah, I don't like it." The best? He and I playing together and running instances! :-)

Must have been a mage...

I wish my mom was cool enough to see past "sitting there and staring at a screen." My dad plays, but my mom just ignores it. At least she doesn't raise a ruckus over it like all the drama I see in blogs.

Thanks for the lovely comments, I was so chuffed with it! One note though, I'm a girl not a guy :-)
And yes, she is a mage! However did you guess ;-P

lol your name sounds like a dodgy drug. hope its not
Emkephalin Dec 31st 2008 10:25PM
Well, kinda, it is a naturally occuring one though :-)
"An enkephalin is a pentapeptide involved in regulating pain and nociception in the body. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enkephalin
Basically it's a drug your body produces naturally when you're under stress or in pain to help you deal with being under stress or in pain. I made this chracter when I was very sick, so she's my painkiller, take my mind off being sick by killing things as a kitty.
The Em is just short for my real name, so *Ta da* Emkephalin :-)
