Phat Loot Phriday: Forgotten Shadow Hood

We haven't done any cloth in a while, so here's a cool-looking hood that you can get by running a Heroic this weekend.
Name: Forgotten Shadow Hood (Wowhead, Thottbot, Wowdigger)
Type: Rare Cloth Head
Armor: 236
Abilities:
Name: Forgotten Shadow Hood (Wowhead, Thottbot, Wowdigger)
Type: Rare Cloth Head
Armor: 236
Abilities:
- +54 Stamina, +44 Intellect, +66 Spirit, which makes it excellent for Warlocks or healers.
- Meta socket and a Blue Socket, to be used as per whatever you need. Socket bonus of +8 Haste rating.
- And increases spell power by 82, which is very nice for a blue headpiece, actually. This is an excellent all-round caster helmet. It's not epic, so obviously you'll be able to get better gear while raiding, but it's got solid stats for almost any caster, and the gems will let you fill in some of the stats you might be missing on other gear. An excellent piece to head into raiding with.
Getting Rid of It: When you do get an epic headpiece, a vendor will give you 4g 40s 97c for this one (shame the prices don't rise when you add the gems in), or you can disenchant it fora Dream Shard.

In my opinion enough players are 80t hat you should be post EPIC loot. Not this blue easy mode stuff. prime previous examples have been the simian sphere form saph. There is an ABUNDANCE of epics that you could do that drop in naxxramas. every boss has some great things. Especially the trinkets from half the bosses in naxx are the best ones there are. Please get rid of this blue item stuff that is a disgrace to be called PHAT lewt for the PLF posts. Step into some raids Mike you'll see there's alot there.

I dream of being as awesome as you, Saiforune.
Jessierockeron Jan 2nd 2009 8:27PM
I'm sure even you had to hop into a few heroics before hitting naxx (unless you had like BT/SW gear, then i retract my previous statement.)
Ice Jan 2nd 2009 8:27PM
No no no.
Phat Loot Phriday should be at phat things like engineer bazooka, trinket that makes you ape, orb of deception etc. like it use to be.
Not all about "this is epic and best in game, just to let you know. Kthxbi. Go get it if you can"

Yes I did have to hop into heroics before I hit Naxx and Malygos. I did OS and VoA in my quest blues and greens .
Here's my armory, still lacking the Malygos kill I got today though for my Champion of The Frozen Wastes title. My gear has much to be desired, but as it stands I'm the 9th highest geared Mage according to armorylite.com.

Mage on my server to correct myself.
Reinard Jan 2nd 2009 8:43PM
So you play Alliance in my battlegroup? I'll keep that in mind.
Saiforune Jan 2nd 2009 8:49PM
To be honest it's very likely you won't see me in a battleground. PvE takes more skill than PvP, especially seeing how hard a mage can hit in PvP that I can two shot any player if I get a hot streak proc'd. Or I get the same done to me. It's just a cat and mouse game where you switch roles as long as no one is targeting you. The only PvP I currently do is Wintergrasp on my server or defendign a capitol if I want to laugh at how many people die in 1 blizzard I cast. I occasionally do SoTA, but you'd rarely see me in between naxx clears and my chain heroics.

You are the kind of player that gives 'hardcore' players a bad rap.
People do need this kind of stuff. Theres so much loot out there and this is helpfull.
HOWEVER.
this isn't really Phat Lewts. Its nice to help players, but when i think Phat Lewts, i think rare, cool items.
High End Weapons.
Rare Mounts (Chopper anyone?)
Really cool trinkets (like the one from malacrass that gives you evil gnomes of death)
Those kinda things.
Saiforune Jan 2nd 2009 8:59PM
I do agree with you, but only the 2nd half, which was a summary of my 1st post.
Us 'hardcore' lolgamers aren't 'hardcore' at all. It's called getting a group of friends skilled enough to take our core 10 man raid and be able to clear 25 man trash cause we're bored. It's all about making friends that know how to play with communication and coordination, no matter how bad their gear is. There's a hunter, who is my guild leader, that has two greens and some blues but mostly epics and he wipes the SNOT out of me all the time on DPS meters. in heroics I push 4kdps. If he was in the same instance he'd be pushing 4.9-5.2k dps. He's insane.
Gear is mostly irrelevant, but yes gear like mike posted is useful, but it is worthless in this column since this is the place where you show the chopper or high end weapons, and cool trinkets.

The thing about that is : Not everyone has the gear for Naxx. Sure, it's an easy pug, but as a tank and usually the person who starts the raid and gets people in, I look for top of the line DPS. this helm is a heroic drop, and if you think about it, there's what? only about 1 or 2 epic drops for cloth wearers (This includes staves, wands, neckpieces, and rings designed for casting classes) per heroic instance. if phat lewt fridays only focused on instances that took, say, an hour at the most, and only focused on Epic drops. There would be no point for the thread because everyone would know what epic item drops where. Blues on the other hand are items you'll see most newcomers to Naxx wearing. And because there are about 3 bosses per heroic instance, and at least 10 instances, this is where a lot of confusion comes into play. "Who drops what where?" This article is not for the hardcore, Naxx-ready player, but rather for the casualish gamer that may still be gearing to go to their first level 80 10-man instance.

i don't have such high ambitions, i'd settle for being as awesome as the thunder he craps.
Dysmorphia Jan 2nd 2009 8:36PM
Since I'm only a mouth-breathing keyboard-turner I like this hood just fine.
AyaJulia Jan 2nd 2009 8:58PM
Much as I usually like this column, this hood looks just like every other green or blue cloth headpiece in Northrend.... I realized they all looked hideous and turned my headpiece off til I got my T7.

/agree
Liel Jan 2nd 2009 9:11PM
wow at people who post a link to their armory profile "hey look at my imaginary stuff in an imaginary world".
Rich Jan 2nd 2009 10:05PM
They can't help it. The game is the only place they have accomplished anything, its all they have and cling to it like a fat kid on a twinkie.
Eternal Overlord Jan 3rd 2009 6:27AM
It would be a bit offtopic to link to... say... a collection of golf trophies.
Also rage more about people being better than you plz. It amuses me.
