Wrath 101: Flight paths in Icecrown

Unlike either of those zones, however, the FPs in Icecrown are extensively phased. Only two of them, Argent Vanguard and Death's Rise, are accessible immediately upon entering the zone, so don't go cruising around trying to pick up all the FPs. Just go through the normal quest lines and you'll unlock all four of them sooner or later.
-
Argent Vanguard. This one is open straight off the bat, and the quests from here (and from your faction's airship) will lead you through the zone. Aeden Moran (88,78) is the flight master.
-
Crusader's Pinnacle. More of a stepping stone, I don't remember there being a lot connected to this place, but it's there anyway. Opened by the quests from Vanguard. It pleases Penumbrius (80,72) to offer flights from here, and on nice green drakes no less.
-
The Shadow Vault. This one is really cool. I don't want to spoil too much, but there is some very nice questing surrounding this place. Morlia Doomwing (44,25) handles the flights.
-
Death's Rise. This is just a ledge in the side of the cliff, which looks out over the Scarlet stronghold Onslaught Harbor. Most of the quests out of here are connected with the Onslaught, and it takes some breadcrumb quests to open most of the NPCs here. Dreadwind (19,48), however, will fly you around any time (thanks for the corrections).
That's all the zones! Nothing now remains in my flight path series but a post on Northrend as a whole (which is coming). Previously: Lower Northrend (Alliance/Horde), Grizzly Hills, Zul'Drak, Sholazar Basin, Storm Peaks.
Arthas awaits and so do your questions. Find the answers you've been looking for that will help you with your journey into Northrend and to level 80 with Wrath 101.Filed under: Guides, Wrath of the Lich King

'Only the first, Argent Vanguard, is accessible immediately upon entering the zone'
This isn't true. Death's Rise is accessible as well.
Don't forget about the zeppelin quest hubs there. :) I'd say there's a one-way Flight Path to them as well (from Dalaran only). I think it's worth mentioning.

I distinctly remember going to Death's Rise before I'd phased in the NPCs and not finding an FP there. But I might just be crazy. Can anyone else confirm/deny?
Tarrie Jan 3rd 2009 6:15PM
Agreed, I got it while doing the exploring as well, well before the NPC's would talk to me.
Amaxe Jan 3rd 2009 6:27PM
It's been awhile, but while I found the place at 78, I have a vague memory I could not get the FP immediately.
Of course I also know when they sent me there for the quest chain to open up the dailies, I just took the FP, so I am not sure when it opened
Amaxe Jan 3rd 2009 6:29PM
As for the Zepplin/Airship FP, I don't know how it works for the Horde, but I won't take the Alliance version, because when I do, I just fly in loops and can't land and have to ctrl+alt+del out.
Maybe they fixed it, but no thanks

I also confirm that I was able to get the FP while obtaining my "Explorer" title, and wihtout having done any quests in Icecrown.

I think the devs have overdone this area a bit, because the gloomy theme is boring after a while. Feels somewhat like Desolace. I don't like to quest there.

make sure you let the LK know that you prefer fluffy bunnies and ferns for your frolicking

To be fair, the list isn't completely finished yet. I've enjoyed these segments because they've verified that I have all the flight paths (I'm kind of obsessive like that, nice to know that I can auto-fly anywhere if I need to afk a bit), but the list isn't quite done.
What we're missing is Crystalsong Forest and Lake Wintergrasp. I can speak for the Alliance on this one (and assume the Horde is the same) in saying that there is a flight path into Wintergrasp. Dalaran is obvious, but then there's also a path for the Alliance at Windrunner's Overlook and the Horde at Sunreaver's Command.
Antonia Jan 3rd 2009 6:22PM
By "not finished" I hope you mean "The raid instance isn't put in yet" because honestly 140 quests to get an achievement isn't exactly screaming "under construction" even if half those quests are you just playing messenger boy, or better yet "where in the world is Tirion Fordring"..
and that's if you even mean Icecrown as a list and not the list being every flightpath in Northrend.. but wait, the article says "That's all the zones! Nothing now remains in my flight path series but a post on Northrend as a whole (which is coming)".. which to me sounds like the list is complete.. so what the heck do you mean?
and yeah Icecrown is like desolace plus.. I can see only wanting to take the place in small doses. the suicide rate in Nordic area's of the world is high for a reason..
Thander Jan 3rd 2009 11:19PM
He has not gone through every zone's flightpaths. However, the flight paths for the two missing zones (Crystalsong and Wintergrasp) are trivial to find.
Just go to Dalaran get that one. Then, take a port to Wintergrasp when your side is on attacking. You will end up at the little horde or alliance camp with a flight path.
teh_wild_knight Jan 3rd 2009 5:07PM
I'm really annoyed that there isn't a FP in southern Icecrown and that we cannot use the FP in Wintergrasp except to leave. Without a path somewhere in that area it takes me an 8 1/2 minute flight to get to Sholozar from Dalaran which I use to farm herbs and chilled meat frequently.
Dominace Jan 3rd 2009 5:17PM
God, I wish they play tested this zone with someone using a normal flying mount (they probably did, but it's good to be ignorant!), I swear I spent more time flying in this zone than killing.
And that epic quest near the end where you have to travel from the crusader's pinnacle up north to that NPC, Jesus, if it wasn't so damn good I would of abandoned it half way in knowing I was going to spend an hour and a half just flying back and forth.
Salacia Jan 4th 2009 12:47PM
i hear ya! i'm 78 on a regular flying mount doing that exact same quest -- my god, it literally takes me 4+ minutes just to get between the quest hubs. geuh....
pietrex Jan 3rd 2009 5:50PM
I'm 100% sure I'm right, because I got the FP when I was exploring Northrend for the achievement.
RogueJedi86 Jan 3rd 2009 8:59PM
I haven't been to Icecrown yet, but don't the Horde and Alliance have airships with flightpaths? If so, you forgot them. Plus you forgot the Crystalsong flight paths. Maybe those'll be in the Complete Northrend follow-up post.
R. Sue Jan 3rd 2009 10:27PM
Airships, yes; flight paths, no. There's flights that take you from Dalaran to your faction's airship, but none off of them.
Anton Jan 4th 2009 12:46AM
Erm.. wowinsider guys.. Duno if you know it, but most players are 80 by now, and have discovered all FP by their own..
You should have done this about a month ago.
Zrob Jan 4th 2009 2:30AM
Actually most of us aren't level 80 yet.
Many....but certainly not most.
Gothia Jan 4th 2009 3:47AM
I quested here from 78-80 and leveled here faster than any other zone in northrend. I think the zone was planned out well with quest objectives closely matched for each section of the zone enabling you to complete a group of quests without too much travel time across the zone. I enjoyed this zone very much and don't see what is meant by saying it is gloomy.
