GC says good things coming for Warlocks

Another big thing he mentioned was the simplification of Affliction's rotation. It's not something I'm completely sold on, considering I actually have a lot of fun with Affliction, but the stuff is a bit of a headache to keep track of and I do need AddOns to help me monitor all those debuffs. Ghostcrawler also notes that Warlock DPS -- mostly Affliction, at least -- is built up over time, but since fights don't last very long, they're looking at how to fix things. Although he also says it might fix itself in Ulduar, which won't be the ez-mode players have been treated to in early Wrath.
Blizzard will also be improving demons, which is totally awesome considering they're worlds better now than they were four years ago. Finally, Ghostcrawler gives a nod to PvP, knowing that Warlocks do need a bit of work there, too. Very encouraging words to kick off our 2009, don't you think?

Affliction locks do a whole mess of DPS. Sure it's not easy for everybody to keep up but those that do bring an enormous amount of DPS. On fights such as Thaddius our top DPS is an affliction lock that pulls 7k DPS. Though his DPS is lowering now that more and more of us are getting geared and can match his DPS which lowers his due to the length of the fight.

Affliction DPS is a freight train: it takes a while to get rolling, but once it gets momentum it'll crush big things. The problem I've always faced as affliction is carrying my weight on trash mobs. Boss mobs are no problem. Mobile fights like Heigan or Grobbulus are tailor-made for affliction 'locks. Trash, though, is a different story. There's not enough time to even get the afflock DPS freight train started, let alone get it rolling. So on trash it's AoE when possible, or just a mix of Corruption and Shadowbolt spam when not.
I honestly don't mind being weak on trash. Given that I am, though, and given that managing an afflock spell rotation is labor-intensive. I'd like to see my damage on boss fights buffed even more. I already consider my heavy affliction build to be a boss-mob specialist. I'd like it to be moreso.

It's a trade off. You do huge DPS on bosses at the expense of trash. The problem is so many people are all obsessed with the DPS charts. Everybody wants their class to do everything.

When stating how much DPS a class can output why do people insist on referring to Thaddius or Loathab
those fights are totally biased THaddius increases damage by a percent and Loathab shows the classes more crit dependent with increased crit.
so i would suggest using a more unbiased fight.

I've rolled a DK and haven't dusted off my lock since release. I wasn't all that impressed with the new locks abilities including Meta. This may bring out the locks again in force if changes are on point.

Mage Blinks up to Warlock.
Mage throws 'Sweaty baton of OP' to Warlock.
Mage blinks away saying "Have fun with that"

For some reason, I feel like they're going to balance mages and locks pretty well and keep the old rivalry alive. Blizzard knows how much we hate each other.

im ashamed to say that im bi. i swing both ways.
(im talking about classes in case your still confused)

Will demons get the same treatment as hunter pets? I can hope.
I mostly look forward to a simplified rotation. The current way is rather daunting, and makes levelling rather ... not fun.. in my opinion.
rosencratz Jan 4th 2009 3:17PM
No we wont. The devs have stated that demons will never get talent points.
JR Jan 4th 2009 7:42PM
They also said thad PvE to PvP transfers would never happen. Don't trust Blizzard devs when they say something is "never" going to happen.

Finally.
This made my day.
ivan256 Jan 5th 2009 11:15AM
IT made your day? Funny, I read it, and it said "We're happy with PvE 'locks. We want to make a few changes, but we're going to wait and see how Ulduar goes first"...
In other words. Suck it up, it is what it is. We're not changing warlocks at all any time soon.
Todd Jan 4th 2009 1:21PM
Do warlocks really need good things?
Melenor Jan 4th 2009 4:07PM
Something better than getting 2-shot by ret pallies and rogues (when you have Soul Link and 22k HP) would be nice.
Todd Jan 4th 2009 10:15PM
Eh, nothing new there. Rogues own any clothie. Paladins do the same when they're spinning like fools.
PimpyMicPimp Jan 4th 2009 1:31PM
No details means it's just talk.

Must be a bit weird for locks to be supposedly at the bottom of the food chain after years of kicking backsides.
