I think we will see the sci-fi elements in the expansion after the next one (Most likelt to be the last one too), where we probably get to shut down the Burning Legion as a whole and kick Saregas' butt...

But for the next one, there is still plenty of lore - Deathwing, more Old Gods, Emerald Dream, Maelstrom, maybe a new storyline that unfolds after we finish off Arthas and Ner-Zhul..
