Breakfast Topic: What you call home

Everyone just wants different things out of their cities. I like cities with tons of flavor, with a very city feel. Stormwind feels like people really live there, despite how small it is. Dalaran most definitely feels like a city of mages, and there's a ton of flavor and neat stuff to look at there. The fact that every single person who gives you directions in Dalaran has a name is crazy neat. The little daily event at 9 PM where you get to help turn on the lights is amazingly cool for how simple it is.
How about all of you, what's your favorite? What do you like about it, or dislike about the others? What would your ideal capital have, if you're not very fond of any of them?

I like Shattrath , because it isnt lagged , you can use fly mount, and you have all you need.
But i guess im the only one, because i just see low levels there now.

Thunder Bluff. Maybe its because taurens are my favorite(right next to trolls in the aethetic department), or because its the only capitol that you can kill yourself or others with its incredible hieght. I like TB's lay out too, similiar to others in a circular/departmentalized design but its much smaller and you get to places quicker.
Dran laggs too much. Shatt was annoyingly huge. I don't like Ogr's pathing from one place to another. UC hates on taurens. And who goes to silvermoon city?

dalaran wins
you can't have a flying mount, so there arent 15 netherspite dragons all stacked up over a vendor or a battlemaster
that city was well designed from the horror of shattrath
Lemons Jan 5th 2009 1:14PM
That's what makes shat so great now, there's no one their to grief anything and the ones that are are too low level to have a gigantic mount.

YEEESSSSS....I adore Thunder Bluff. None of my guidies go there, but I know the place like the back of my hand...one asked me 'Where do you cows keep your mailbox'? XD
I love TB for the aesthetic, and for the fact that I love tauren. I know where everything is, and it's KODO FRIENDLY. God...I just travel form UC, because I always get stuck in doorways (if I can actually get through them).
Honestly though, my hearth is set to Dalaran (I'm only 58) solely for convinience.

Thunder Bluff is the city that most feels like home to me. Maybe it's because it's the first city I got to see, but if I ever have to go to town for something, TB is the port I take. It's very peaceful to me and not nearly as crowded as the other cities. Plus, it's smaller and the main points of interest for me (Auctioneers, bank, mailbox, hunter trainer for respecs, etc.) are nice and close together.

I feel pretty much the same, despite playing a Blood Elf, I always liked the feel of TB, nice and quiet, that calm little lake I can swim around or fish in, few people around, and all green and pretty, tis a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Orgrimmar, what with countless posers clowning around in front of the bank, runninag around on massive mounts and dancing naked atop the mailbox. That kinda shit dont happen in TB. :p
Recently with Dalaran becoming a huge lagcity (nice one bliz, you wanted a "crowded city"? You got it! GG :p) Ive decided to set my HS to TB - having the Kirin Tor band I ca port to dalaran for my JC and cooking dailies anyway, and other than that, I have little reason to be in that city. :p Though I hear Shattrath is nice and quiet these days too..
Theothana Jan 5th 2009 8:58AM
Yup, it's Thunder Bluff for me. TB doesn't have absolutely everything that Org has, but it has most everything I need. And it's all close together, and never crowded. If I need to see a trainer, it's just up a level, not all the way across town.

Thunderbluff is a great city, grand fun navigating about it, and it feels so peaceful, unlike it's alience counter part Darnassus, which feels deserted.
I spend alot of time inThunderbluff, shame the gaurds attack me for beeing a Night elf on a Brewfest kodo =P
Other than that, Stormwind, Iron forge really isn't to my taist, too industreal, it's nice for holidays like Winter's veil and brewfest, but Stormwind feels homly, with a few ideal convesations, and many a person trying ot get out of the cannals.
Oh Dalaran is great, I stopped leveling when i got there because I can spend hours wondering it's 3 streets, but I've not become as costumed to it as I have Stormwind.
Oneiroi Jan 5th 2009 12:15PM
It's been fixed pretty well, but I still have residual hate for Thunderbluff.
I was so annoyed at being dismounted every time I got in a hut to cross a bridge.
oldwisemonk Jan 5th 2009 2:28PM
Best thing about TB - forge and anvil right outside the bank. My Engs and BS's always love TB.
That being said, my lvl 55 bank alt hangs out in UC. You don't get dismounted going between bank, mailbox and auctioneer.

Silvermoon City for its architecture and colours.
Trieclipse Jan 5th 2009 9:11PM
And its Music. I love Silvermoon City music...its just the whole feel of the city.
I really like cities where they have little 'houses' or 'inns' around the city, with a lot of random, useless shops finishing out the architecture of the city. It really adds a level of realism to the city...its like a city you could actually live in, you know? Stormwind does this extremely well, and Silvermoon also to a lesser extent (but I like Silvermoon more, because of the arhitecture and feel).
MusedMoose Jan 5th 2009 8:11AM
My main is a NE hunter who recently hit Exalted with Ironforge, so it's pretty obvious what city she calls home. *grin* I had her hearth set there for a long time, before I started questing in Slithius and realized that was way, way too long of a way back.
My alt's a mage, and doesn't really have a preferred city right now. I'm willing to bet, though, that once I get her to Dalaran, that'll be home.

IF is a beautifully inviting city. The funny thing is last night, I started an alt warrior (a little dwarf girl because after all fat girls make the best tank), and I had completly forgotten how epic IF feels the first time you walk upto the gates, and then how inviting it is when you actually get inside.
The warm glow, cozy fires, and great forge are a soothing contrast to the harsh and blinding snow of Dun Morogh.
Ironforge will always be home, now if I could only find a way to destroy that tunnel that links IF to that infested Gotham like capital of the disgusting humans.
moonspeaker Jan 5th 2009 8:16AM
undercity nothing beats the atmosfhere there, and the look of the undead town in howling fjord is amazing too.
i realy felt sad when there wasn't any dailey quests hop i could visit there or even any forsaken town at all after dragonblight:(
Tyranor Jan 5th 2009 8:16AM
I love UC...the easy format, easy to find vendors, and well placed auctioneers make it a winner for me.
Worcester Jan 5th 2009 7:44PM
UC is my home of choice too. Of course, that's mostly because Undead is my race of choice. I do like TB, but I'll avoid Org whenever I can.
I don't have any Alliance, but since I'm a Rogue, I have visited all your home towns. I think I'd be most interested in Ironforge.
Why is it that the Elven cities on both sides seem to be the least interesting? Clearly a lot of work went into both, but they just lack something. I'm not sure what.
Justin Jan 5th 2009 8:18AM
I like Stormwind. The feel of the city is just a lot better, IMO. Plus it has the best city music in the game. If I plan on sticking around a while, I'll go to SW every time. But if I'm just making a quick AH trip, I'll go to IF because the Auction House is closer to the mage area there than SW, so its a quicker trip.
But Stormwind is my city. :)

I loathe Dalaran, but for simple reasons.
1) The sewer is an added component that draws no use, nor traffic.
2) You can not fly in Dalaran.
3) It has no schools, only shops. You would think Dalaran would have at least one study room.
4) Early on the Horde commit vast crimes of genocide against Dalaran, and now are hailed with open arms.
