It may simply be that he is not that good of a tank. He was asked to come as DPS, so was not pushed out of the raid. I sense the emo in this one. I think the guild leader is being unfairly judged here as well. We don't have all the story here.My advice would be to either suck it up and go as DPS, or pug it elsewhere. After pugging Naxx 10 for a bit, he may find another guild that will let him tank more often.

No. Because he wants to tank, has geared for it and shouldn't have to accept a dps role just because the GL wants he and his buddy to tank. He'd never get tanking upgrades, so he'd fall behind And, if the GL felt tanking performance was an issue he should have said so, not this 'we're going to tank until we're bored' crap.

I am sympathetic to his lose of the tank spot but yes lets not forget HE WAS NOT BENCHED. He was asked if he wanted to DPS. Spec'ing for the sake of progression and the guild is part of the game and while he may have gotten the shaft I too agree that we are only getting part of the story.

It's easy to say to suck it up and go as DPS, but you do realize that ferals need completely different gear for bear and cat roles? He said he had geared himself up to tank - perhaps he has a decent dps set, but there's a good chance that his dps set may not be as good. Now if they told him they'd need him more as dps before he spent the time gathering tank gear and gold on enchants and gems, that'd be a different story.

I see both sides to this story. I definitely think the guild leaders should have had handled this better. He played tank, he wants to play tank, and they knew that. Treating his desires so casually was wrong. At the same time, I agree that guild members need to be flexible. DPS is not the end of the world, and "until we are bored" is a very vague statement. Maybe the GL was joking and just got misunderstood. At the end of the day the real issue is that a guild member is feeling used. He needs to have a talk with the guild leaders and scope out if that is really true. If it is, he needs to walk. For a guild to be successful, everyone needs to give. If that can't happen then go elsewhere. Plenty of guilds.

@Random CowAgree that we only have one side of the story, but two things we do know is that (a) he tanked through BC and (b) historically the guild had a "first come, first served" policy. The writer describes it in his opening sentence as a casual guild, but it sounds like something has changed about that policy. I've had that experience myself, raiding in a casual raiding guild pre-BC and then getting gkicked (along with 60 or so other people) when the guild flipped to hardcore with a six night a week raiding schedule.I see a lot of criticism about skipping the raid and not respec'ing to dps. I guess it is the lens you see this through. In a progression guild, I would expect guild leadership to dictate specs and professions and skipping the raid to be grounds for a gkick or some kind of warning. In a casual raiding guild, I would expect it to all be voluntary or for the guild to pick up the tab for a respec.Either way, it sounds like the guild is operating under a new set of unwritten rules for WotLK. That sounds like a recipe for some unhappy people as they stumble across those new rules. I wish the writer luck.

Speculating that there's more to this story is silly. He's being forced into a role he explicitly does not enjoy. There's no point in the foreseeable future where this situation will change. What reason is there for him to raid?Even were this story fabricated in part or whole the situation as described isn't unheard of. There are likely to be a good number of people in similar positions who are also unsure of what to do. Rather than speculate spuriously that we have a charlatan on our hands, our responses are better spent assuming the opposite. In this way we can give advice to those who need it which more than likely includes the person who asked in the first place.

@Grinn No, he was benched. Saying 'no, you can't tank, but you can come as DPS' is just like saying 'no, you can't tank, but you can some as offheals'. His chosen role, spec and gear are tanking. He seems to have been very diligent in getting his gear together and has already main tanked well and know how to tank. In my opinion, the GL should not have a guild this large... he wants to run a group of his friends, he should only have a group of his friends. If he wants other people in his guild, he needs to be able to put his own desires to the side sometimes to make sure all of his guild progresses and has fun. That is the point of being a leader... you look out for everyone else. The higher your rank as a leader, the more you have to look out for everyone else. I have never been in a guild in WoW that actually operates as a guild. In general I have found them to be a 'friends list 2', not a gulid, which is fine, but then you get problems like this.

Feral bear: Stamina, agi for dodge, armorFeral Cat: AP (from Agi, AP, crit), staThe gear is largely identical. As long as you don't have asshat rogues and a sane DKP system, you'll be fine. Don't have a DKP system? Leave. Many are forced to alternate roles or not going due to too many people. Yes the RL is making a mistake, but also you should be expecting to get your Naxx10 runs in every week. You are a strong feral druid, you can likely pug it with a handful of guildies and some people from LFG. Plus warrior gear feral bear gear. So i don't buy the notion that because there is a warrior MT you'll never get tanking gear. Honestly if you are really that good, find a new guild. Shouldn't be an issue. But at least talk to the RL beforehand.

hmm, my first thoughts on this one were why would a GL openly come out and say you're not gonna tank but there's a place for you as dps....my second thought was why the first thing the GL did when his main hit 80 was to level his tank and use it, rather than his main, to raid on.The only reason i would do this ever is if I had a fantastic guild member I liked a lot but my guild's expectations were a little ahead of his/her tanking abilities. Unfortunately it doesnt sound like gear is an issue. I can't say this is what the particular GL did, but I would be interested to hear his side of the story, as from the introduction the particular member sounds the ideal guildie
