Server issues abounds this evening
Servers seem to be having all sorts of problems actually staying up tonight. A fair portion of the population is experiencing chronic server crashes, including my home server. A few of my guildmates canceled their 10-man raids as a result of players' inability to stay online. Even when the server isn't down, it's a real pain staying connected. We don't really have any information as far as clear upcoming fixes or how long the issue will last, but we here at WoW Insider most definitely know how you feel. Consider this a show of solidarity. It's lame, and hopefully it will go away soon. If you're just sitting down now to dig into your playtime for the night, expect some interruptions.
What we do have is a little bit of information about possible upcoming realm transfers that will be opening up in the near future. Free transfers, of course. You can find Zarhym's list behind the cut below.
- A number of transfers from high population PvP realms to low population PvP realms will be opening
- There's a possibility of a new PvE realm, with open transfers from existing, high population PvE realms
- High population Oceanic PvP realms may have the option of transferring to Gundrak soon

Dunno what your home server is, but I wasn't able to log onto Silver Hand for a good two hours or so.

That would be Cenarion Circle.

Queue + Lag + Frequent disconnects= Account cancellation until issues get worked out. The lag in Naxx is unbearable.

I am afraid I must dispute your math, my good man.
I believe the solution you're looking for is queue + lag + frequent disconnects = extra days as an apology from Blizzard.

Naxx? Have you tried Wintergrasp lately?

What's funny is that the same people who claim they'd cancel their accounts over a few technical issues that will eventually be fixed are the same people who would tell others that they suck at the game because they don't play enough or aren't "hardcore" enough.
:P

Garona was fine but we had a weird problem in which instances we hadn't ran got saved some how.

I am getting sick of the lag on Cenarius, we have canceled raids two weeks in a row now because of how bad the lag has gotten. We have issues for 6+ weeks but now they are just getting ridiculous.
As if server queues were not bad enough, we get on and can't even raid. Blizzard needs to really communicate to the community instead of shelling out canned answers (like the ones I get from GMs).

Cenarion Circle has been horrible for quite a while. I've totally stopped playing in the evening because of queues and lag. It's become quite cliché to say, but I'm canceling my sub until I hear the problems are worked out, and just doing my daytime trading until my current sub expires. Hopefully they'll have it fixed by then.

I got out of Northrend and things were fine.
They need better hardware/coding.

I have been working on a low level toon in Darkshire and SW all evening, 4.5 hours or so and had no issues at all, notta! Must be Northrend stuff clearly. Suggest folks work on some secondary skills or non-Northrend toons for a while until things get resolved.
Kia Jan 6th 2009 11:37PM
Yeah, no worries here from Moon Guard. Haven't been in Northrend, though.

maybe this is a better question for Ask WI but the possibility of opening a new PvE realm made me curious. What are the advantages and disadvantages of playing on a low population vs a high population realm. I have been on SH for sometime now and the only real difference I can see is the AH, which has gotten crazier as the population has expanded. But I'm curious if there is any key advantage or disadvantage to one or the other.

One of the problems I've noticed about being on a low-pop PvE realm (RP - Farstriders US), is that the lack of healers that everyone feels on all servers seems to be very pronounced when you have less players over all. It can be nigh impossible to get even a 5 man PuG together on any given day, including weekends, let alone a 10 man or 25 man for Naxx. Now, this isn't much of a problem if you have a decent guild to back you up, but our guild only has 3 level 80s right now and everyone else is 50 or below (aside from our DK alts), so we're forced to PuG if we want to run anything.
Battleground queues can be a real hassle as well, if you like running BGs. There have been some nights when the official average wait time for the last group was 2 minutes, but I've been in queue for over an hour, for AB or EotS.
Aside from that, there's the AH that you mentioned, but that can cut both ways. Sure the realm economy is screwed up, but who doesn't like being able to sell a 20 stack of Wool Cloth for 25g or more?
In the end, if I had a choice of servers to pick without having to pay for a transfer, I really don't know if I would pick a low-medium pop server again. I think I'd rather put up with the crowding and be able to group once in a while than be able to level without seeing anyone else in a zone but get to 80 and be stuck with nothing to do.

Send some over to Scilla! Now that the WotLK rush is over it is returning to ghost town status. Nice for speed, terrible for getting a group together for heroics.

Performance on Tortheldrin was pretty abysmal tonight. Well, more abysmal than usual that is.

Engadget reported that the ATT has had east coast data network outages. That might explain your problems:

Personally, I have not had any problem on the west coast.
Thegiant89 Jan 7th 2009 12:39AM
I was 140 in the queue but once i got i was able to play for about 4-5 hours with no problem
Turlagh Jan 7th 2009 12:49AM
I only had problems with my guy in Northrend. Frequent disconnects. Other toons elsewhere were fine.
Ihs Jan 7th 2009 1:08AM
Northrend and Naxx Heroic was fine tonight on Dalaran.
