Breakfast Topic: The oldest WoW player you know

Robin Torres: I know there are much older, but I'm 44 and the oldest I've come across personally. Age comes up a lot with me in-game because I get annoyed having to answer questions like "Who are the Pixies?" or argue about where "Mahna mahna" first appeared (Sesame Street, not The Muppet Show).
BRK: I have a friend in his early 70s who is a Hunter. He's a Professor Emeritus in astronomy at the University of Florida. He actually came to my WotLK purchasing-party in Orlando.
Adam Holisky: I know an ex-lawyer that teaches law at UCLA. If I recall correctly, he just turned 75. One helluva funny and smart guy.
As for me, I have an awesome 60-year old woman as a guild-mate. She has an extremely generous heart, devotes lots of time to helping the guild with trade-skills or material farming, and is always there when you need an ear. Outside of that, she's even gone so far as to send two enormous tins full of some of the best cookies I've ever tasted to our yearly RL guild party since she couldn't come. (I'm glad to say she'll be there this year!)
Now with all that said, who is the oldest WoW player you know? (Perhaps you are the oldest WoW player you know.) Let's hear from you!

I don't know of anyone past the age of about 30 though I'm sure someone I know is but its not something I ask or am asked, which is one of the best things about being online I think. Its hard to typecast when all you have is someone's avatar or screen name (even if they are a gnome....)
Not on wow but previous games I've been mistaken for a 35 year old (I was 16 at the time which was slightly depressing); now 21 still don't think many people could guess my age correctly.
It is nice to know that wow can appeal to all ages though.

@Riggby aren't you a bit old to do a childish "First" post?
To me, I'm the oldest WOW-player I know, and I'm 31
Most chars I encounter seem to have a teenager driving (and writing jibberish English because of google translations)

I, personally, think people who make big deals out of "first" posts are childish. Especially since he made a statement about his age.
One could infer that he is the oldest person he has met.

We have 3 generations of WOW players in my family. I play (I'm 43 - Human Holy Priest), my son plays (he's 14 - Orc Prot Warrior) and my Dad plays (he's 67 - Human Holy Paladin). My husband also plays (NE Druid of no fixed specification) and so does my 7 year old daughter (who enjoys her level 46 rogue).
We have some fun times together and it's only my Mum who misses out at family events when conversations turn to WOW. I'd never spoken to my Dad as much as I do now we both play WOW.

"(I'm 43 - Human Holy Priest), my son plays (he's 14 - Orc Prot Warrior) and my Dad plays (he's 67 - Human Holy Paladin)"
Kids, they always gotta do something different.

The SA WoW community is surprisingly large and growing. The only problem is that it seems to be split between the US and EU servers.
I do wish it were possible to transfer accounts between the two. EU has better pings, but I really don't want to start from the beginning again :(
On topic: Oldest player I 'know' is 33. I've spoken to others online who claim to be in their 50s.
ShamanHealer Jan 7th 2009 9:39AM
33 in SA here. Bronzebeard EU server.

A partner at my firm first introduced me to Wow and she is probably in her early 50s. I am 31. And to help rebut the stereotype, she is the worst Wow player I know. She plays on a different server, but I check out her armory every now and then. A mage wearing strength rings and using a druid staff- really? She's been playing for years now too. Sad.

Some people legitimately don't care about performance, and that's fine (as long as they don't ask to be treated as though they do i.e. want raid spots.)
Oldest for me was a pair of grandparents in one of my old guilds who were in their early 70s. I was always impressed by them... they weren't very good at the game, but they really worked hard to get better, and in a totally humble way.

I've guildies ages 11 to 65. My current guild's core group is a bunch of married people with kids all in between their 30's and 50's.

My guild has quite a few older people. My mage buddy is probably closer to 80 than 70. Have a warlock over 50... There are quite a few and they've all been together for longer than I've known them through many different MMOs over the years. We all get along, although the mage is a grumpy one :).

I'm 35 and often wonder if I'm I'm the only person above 30 on one of the servers that I play on (whereas on another an original EU UK RP server there's quite a lot of players that are older)
Shardrell Jan 7th 2009 8:20AM
I have a friend in-game who doesn't mention her exact age, but has mentioned that she's "older than Shatner".
I enjoy chatting with older players. They usually have very interesting things to say!
JohnforDeath Jan 7th 2009 8:22AM
Believe it or not, there's a play *husband and wife* who are in their 80's on the uldum realm. Nice people too hehe. That's the oldest I've come across...
