PVE servers just seem so much less realistic to me. This is a war we're in isn't it? It's not so much that I like looking for fights and ganking people, but I love the feeling of being able to defend myself and lower level friends from people who are.
I just got in a five minute long fight with an undead priest who was picking off lowbies in stranglethorne last night. I finally finished her off only to be taken down by one of her lingering DOTs. The important thing was that all the lowbies she was attacking had time to get to their bodies and run off. Kind of made me feel like a bit of a hero when one of them thanked me. Experiences like that break up the grindfest that this agme can turn into and you don't get that by simply being flagged for pvp on a pve server.

perhaps i miss understood the progression into TBC but didn't the horde and alliance set aside their differences to fight alongside the Naruu against Illidan and later the scourge in WOTLK?

Also, maybe someone missed some quests in Dragonblight... I don't want to spoil the story, so I won't be more specific, but everybody who's done it will understand.

Yes, but that encourages people to do PvP. Other factions disagree with this, so the PvE environment still works
