Relics of Ulduar to stay soulbound?
A poster in the general forums today outlined his, and many others, money making strategy they'll do when patch 3.0.8 goes live:- Save up bank-tabs-full of Relics of Ulduar
- Sell Relics of Ulduar when they are no longer soulbound in patch 3.0.8
However a response by Bornakk, a Blizzard Community Manager, reads "Is there a problem? Yes sir, the data on the relics is inaccurate. While things can still change, they may remain souldbound."
So in the typical Blizzard fashion of not confirming anything outright, they have more or less strongly hinted that relics will remain soulbound in 3.0.8. So much for the money making scheme.
The other downside to this is that many people were saving up relics to give to their alts. I know that I have loads of them waiting to go to whatever alt I decide I want to gear out. So much for that too.
While we'll have to wait until we see patch 3.0.8 on the live servers apparently, I wouldn't count on this change anymore.

Same exact thing here on Blackhand.

On my server they announced a restart would be coming for game issues (probably a hotfix is my guess). Wouldn't be surprised if this was related
Amaxe Jan 9th 2009 3:58PM
I doubt it was his comment that made the Blues change their minds on this

Its not just your realm. No one can authenticate right now.

The poster who put this up, Runthak, is actually Markco. He posted the gold-making tip on the wow forums. He actually writes a gold-making blog as well at http://justmytwocopper.blogspot.com
That is where the original post on all of this can be found. Just thought it was interesting. I wonder if Blizz was ready to fix this before they saw this post...

Sigh, and I spent so much time amassing a small fortune of these tokens for my alts. I could have used that time to actually have done the quests for those toons. Thanks Blizzard. Can we get other things with these tokens like potions and flasks that aren't limited to only Storm's Peak at least when we're already exalted?
Haarits Jan 9th 2009 4:37PM
I've got well over 200 of these, and had planned to use them when the patch hit... thinking that it would hit this week, or the week before. I just hit exalted last night thanks to finally figuring out last week that my pet being out was why I couldn't get credit on the Angrim's Tooth daily, and to having extraordinary luck finding Everfrost Chips just in the course of doing the dailies and farming leather. Found 4 last night, which pushed me over the top and prevented me from having to follow the ADD ghost worg around.
Once I saw how close to exalted I was, I decided I'd spread my relics around among guildies, fiancée, and alts... they ARE easy to get in the course of doing the SoH dailies, or Hyldnir dailies, or just farming/questing in general. They drop from just about everything! Nobody should be affected by Relic farmers any more than they are by any other farmers, so I hope the non-soulbound change does make it through, just to ease the grind a bit, and allow the already-exalted to have a use for 'em besides belching fire while in the zone.

Agreed, I don't think it was his comment that prompted the change - I get the feeling no decision moves THAT quickly at Blizzard.
But I'm all for call him names - feels good.

As it stands right now, God and everyone else on my server tries to run the Hodir dailies at about the same time every day.
Making Relics of Ulduar tradeable would help allievate that crunch. It would let us bypass those dailies on our alts. I'm OK with never having to thrown a tooth at a worm with my alts.
tonedeff Jan 9th 2009 5:18PM
I dont know why people are expecting to make a fortune of these relics.
There is plenty of people with 1000's of these relics they hvae been farming to sell. The ah is going to be so flooded.
Hank Jan 9th 2009 5:19PM
Should be bound to account....
Kanuris Jan 9th 2009 5:39PM
Soulbound would be unfair to those who are Exalted already.
No bind would essentially let you buy your way to Exalted.
To be honest, the Bind on Account idea seems best to me. Even though i have no alts on my current server anywhere near 80.
Doc X Jan 9th 2009 5:55PM
As I saw other places, what's so bad about this? You could buy your way to Exalted with Cenarion Expedition (Coilfang Armaments, Unidentified Plant Parts), Scryers (Arcane Tomes, Sunfury Signets, Firewing Signets) and Aldor (Fel Armaments, Marks of Sargearas, Marks of Kiljaedan). Was having a secondary economy around these so bad?
Doc X Jan 9th 2009 5:51PM
If they stay soulbound, that'll be crap. I've got plenty of these sitting on my main to use on my alt. While I'd prefer they lose all bindings (so I could send them to characters on my second account), making them Bind to Account would suck less so I could at least send them to my normal alt once he goes through the pre-requisite quests.
And, really, what's the big deal with taking away being able to sell these once they're able to be turned in for rep? They're like Coilfang Armaments, Unidentified Plant Parts, Fel Armaments, Arcane Tomes, etc. Were they really so bad for things in BC?

Go go BoA Relics?
Dumag Jan 10th 2009 9:35AM
... So what the hell good are they? They take up bag space, you pick up hundreds of them doing Hodir dailies (an efficient source of income even for those already exalted), and vendor for peanuts. They're like the Argent Dawn rep turn-ins redux.
It won't break the game to let us trade 'em. The exalted enchants are going to be necessary once Ulduar hits, and a lot of dedicated raiders are already exalted with the Sons anyway.
Daynams Jan 20th 2009 8:50PM
Regarding the suggestion to make boss loot BoA - I see the following horrible flaw in this plan:
We'll see many people rolling NEED on gear they want for their alts. Etiquette may help mitigate this, but there will be people taking loot for other characters when there are people in the party who can use it present to receive it.
I don't know about you, but I don't want that.
Midjetboy Jan 20th 2009 6:23AM
All rep items like these should be BoA at least, so u can send them to alts. My main is exalted already and have a ton of these things and was hoping to send them all to my resto druid as i dont want to grind those dailies on him as a healer :S not fun
Rylka Jan 20th 2009 8:20AM
I hit exalted with the sons and just kept doing the dailies for the cash and the crystals/eternals picked up along the way. At first I tossed the relics (got my flask already and I'm not that big on single-zone buffs), but then a guildie told me that after the next patch they wouldn't be soulbound any more so I started saving them.
I've got over 600 of the things now...
Would be nice if I could at least vendor them for a few silver rather than trashing them if I can't pass them on to fellow guildies/alts/AH.
It bugs me a little that these will be turned into rep items long after those of us who have already hit exalted have gone through the zone, but I don't really mind that much. But not being able to pass them on to others like we could with some BC rep items is puzzling.
crazyhunter Jan 20th 2009 10:23AM
I think they should keep them soulbound. I also agree with chuck above that you should not be allowed to buy your way to exalted. How about adding more useful items that could be bought with relics.
