Achievement junkie

When that happened, something inside me clicked and the next thing I knew, I was doing quests in Sen'jin and Bloodhoof Villages to get those last few reputation points to get to Exalted with the respective factions. My initial idea was simply to allow myself to purchase all the racial mounts, but when I finally hit Exalted with all the Horde factions, I unlocked Ambassador of the Horde. Oh, and while we were raiding the Alliance cities, I took time off to explore the Alliance starting zones, too, and turned into a Dora. It's kind of an unstoppable snowball of Achievements that get you hooked even when you're not pursuing them.
I ventured into Dire Maul North to raise my weapon skills, ending up getting Did Somebody Order a Kunckle Sandwich? and Master of Arms. Since I had, in my epic fail of an attempt to get Merrymaker, gone into Dire Maul East to get the recipe for Run Tumm Tuber Surprise, I also cleared Dire Maul East. This meant I just had to go into Dire Maul West to get King of Dire Maul. So much for ignoring Achievements. Even if you don't look for them, they kind of have a way of finding you. I mean, most people get Going Down? entirely by accident, don't they? Like it or not (and I, for one, actually like it more than I thought I would), Achievements look like a success to me. We like it so much, in fact, that Dan's kicked off a weekly Achievements column called The Overachiever. How're you doing with your Achievements lately? Have you gotten hooked?

I make it a point to boycott all holiday achievements LOL.

I'm an achievement whore. If they had this in the game from launch, I would of never taken breaks from the game. It gives me something to aim for, and shows a result, even if it is just a dumb unlock.

Aw, all those achievement points, and you didn't fork out for the Collector's Edition of Wrath? :)
dotorion Jan 10th 2009 9:14AM
Two characters (a 71 and a 78), each just over 1000 achievement points.
The 78 sorta skipped half of Outlands, the 71 has only seen instances in Northrend.
I only do achievements if I want something from them tbh (would like a black war bear for example)

I do any achievement that is in my path, but I don't go completely out of my way to do them. For example, I still haven't done "To all the Squirrels I've Loved Before".

Same here. I enjoy them, but if I tried to track every one down it would be too time-consuming. I did pursue two achievements because I wanted the rewards, though: 50 pets so I could get Stinker the skunk, and I went back and reached exalted with CC for the "Guardian of Cenarius" title.

there's an addon that tells you whether you /love 'd a pet or not. I think it got mentioned in the last Achievement article. The note shows up in the mouseover box
Tuhljin Jan 11th 2009 2:45AM
Yes, and WoWInsider apparently named their new article after it. ;)

The author of that addon is a genius, IMHO. ;)
Hmm, winking emoticons at the end of both sentences. Does that break some sort of Internet posting rule? It seems... wrong somehow.

I love the achievements. I work on them whenever I'm getting tired of doing the endgame rush. (which is quite frequently. I enjoy questing and levelling WAAAAY more than I do crunching numbers for endgame raids). I'm working on the Loremaster right now, which is great because at the same time, I'm working on World Explorer, Ambassador, and the mounts ones. I've already hit Exalted with Darn and am a Warlock riding around on a kitty. I'm close to the same with Exodar. (I've heard conflicting stories regarding whether or not the Draenei starting area quests count towards the achievement or not. Can anyone confirm that? I know some of the Teldrassil quests weren't working.)
Big Al Jan 10th 2009 10:36AM
i just finished the starting quests on one of my alts. if u obtain the quest from a draenei then u are getting exodar rep and orher places.

I have completed almost 200 achievements so I dont know where that usually ranks me
Ilem Jan 10th 2009 9:34AM
Achievements? Hooked? Yes, completely.
I've never run through dungeons much before achievements came about. I've never seen much need for PVP or battlegrounds until October 2008. I've spent two days looking for that last little quest for "Terror of Terokkar" (damn you, Altruis quest chain in Nagrand--so hard to find). Now working on getting the last 500 quests for "The Seeker" and finishing up the "Loremaster" achievements (after completing the EK Loremaster achievement the other night, I vowed to never return to the Eastern Kingdoms).
If WoW wasn't addictive enough before 3.0.2, it is now.
Wispur Jan 10th 2009 9:38AM
I loathe the idea of achievements. The only achievements I will EVER receive are the ones that come to me accidentally while I'm playing the game, not while I'm doing stupid crap like hugging every critter in the world.
At least in CoH, every badge came with a title, in WoW every achievement comes with a waste of time. and if you waste an obscene amount of time, you might get a single title.
