Blizzard unveils Wrath of the Lich King Cinematic Artbook
So hey, this is pretty cool. I like to consider myself a connoisseur of video game art, owning a good number of hardcover, glossy-paged artbooks that help me out when a) I need some inspiration, or b) I need to feel really inferior about my art. The artbook released with the Collector's Edition of Wrath was very well put-together (and certainly an improvement over the original WoW artbook with its half-pages of pre-rendered art for every race but orcs and humans) and had everything I like in an artbook--but oh, what's this, Blizzard? An entire book that shows and discusses the process of making the Wrath cinematic? Yes, this will do.Published by Insight Editions and titled The Cinematic Art of Wrath of the Lich King, it features 200 pieces of high-res concept art and CG renders, two 8x10 art cards with concept art of Arthas and Sindragosa the Frost Queen, lots of lore bits about major players in Wrath's storyline, and (I think this is the coolest) a 12-page illustrated storybook that tells the tale of Sindragosa. And even beyond all that, there's behind-the-scenes commentary about the cinematic every step of the way. It's valuable insight if you're interested in storyboarding, production, or just the Blizzard creative process.
I think we can all agree that it sounds pretty awesome, whether you're into art or WoW itself. You can pick it up, if you're so inclined, at Amazon.com for the very reasonable sale price of $19.77 USD. If you're as-yet-unconvinced, you can check out a preview of the book at Blizzard's Wrath site.

i saw this at a book store and got it. I love how they talk about some of the other ideas for the cinematic and some of the ideas they were going to do to move the story of Arthas/Ner'Zhul merging together froward.

Good thing I didn't pay $50 for it at Blizzcon thinking it would be Blizzcon exclusive (as they kinda made it out to be) OH WAIT YES I DID LOL. I did, ofc, get the hardcover limited edition blah blah uber-pretty version - strange to see them making a softcover art book!
It's an amazing book, way better than the previous art books, and extremely worth $20 or more. The Wrath concept art is simply breathtaking (including some never-used concepts for Death Knights and armor sets) and any fan of WoW's art style would appreciate it. :)

Im pleased to see people enjoying this book. At first, I thought "They are making an art book on the cinematic that didn't have much to it?*", but now I will definately have to pick one up especially for that price. I'm a huge fan of the art.

Meant to add: I -did- enjoy the cinematic very much, it just didn't have as much action as the last two.

Yeah, I picked up the hardcover version at Blizzcon 08, and I'm not sorry that I did either. The book with it's slipcase is a work of art itself. The version I have also included several art prints, some of which are beautiful enough that I plan to frame and mount on my wall. It also came with a very short but awesome story booklet that tells of the fall of Sindragosa. In short, if you like fantasy art or 'Making of' books you should run out and get this right now.

An artbook? For $20? I'll have to check if it's up here in Canada...if not, here I come Amazon.com! I come from the animation world, where a cheap artbook is $45. Can't wait for this one!

So does this come with the same prints and the hardcover?
