Lil' Game Hunter achievement now set to 75 pets
In patch 3.0.8 there is a new achievement call the Lil' Game Hunter, which you get upon collecting a very large number of pets. The achievement gets you the pet pictured above, a little fawn. He's cute, and hopefully won't stop in his tracks when he sees my motorcycle's headlight.
Previously the achievement required getting a total of 100 vanity pets, however that total has now been lowered to 75. That is much more accessible for people to achieve, and really requires just a little bit of farming and AH watching. Definitely within the grasp of more people than when it was 100, which would have required more-or-less getting your hands on some super rare pets and/or ebayed TCG loot cards (a subject which some feel is borderline ethical).
Click on the above image to get a better view of the fawn, and start collecting now!
I plan on taking him for a walk through Elwynn Forest when I get him.

Ah, so I can't get off the treadmill now that I got my 50 pets?
Kraf Jan 10th 2009 4:05PM
Ugh, so it's back to collecting eh? I already got meh 51 pets....now looks like I'm off to farming those last 25.....dang this is gonna be hard
Evi Jan 11th 2009 11:52AM
Well you don't *have* to do it. ;) Only if you want the fawn!
Kraf Jan 11th 2009 1:18PM
But I love me lil' pets ^..^

Pretty tough this one, which sucks for a pet collector like me, this is one of the nicest pets I've seen in a while (better than Stinker).
I have 61 pets at the moment, and still doing Crocs in the City everyday it appears (only got 2 from that ... )

Actually, if he froze up, died, then despawned in presence of a motorcycle, it would be pretty funny.
A little bit twisted on Blizzard's part, but still funny.

Skunk? Deer? Anyone notice a relationship here? This mean for 100 pets...we're getting a Thumper type rabbit pet!
tchernobyl Jan 10th 2009 4:32PM
woot, this is a lot more doable. My warrior is at 64... and i haven't started him on the level 80 stuff that gives pets :D
Sephrenia Jan 10th 2009 4:32PM
YAY! Already there. Was a bit worried as to how I was going to get 100 without Trading Cards and because the stupid croc quest has never given me a croc even though I do it every single day that it is there. Now I can have a proto drake instead of a pet from my Oracles egg, please....
Skizzit Jan 10th 2009 4:40PM
Thank god. I am already at 80 pets, but the only way I would have been able to get to 100 is with all the TCG and Blizzcon pets. Even then I am not sure it would have been doable.
Yay for more pets!

does that mean that the mount one will get reduced to 75 too ?
would be so nice
Kolo Jan 10th 2009 6:42PM
I would hope so, but doubt it. The Mounts achievement is the hidden gold sink in WoW, and im thinking the basic costs would be 60-70k gold. Its totally insane;
Engineering mount; 12.5k minimum
Mammoth 3 man: 16k
Mammoth: 10k
50 mounts achievement set me back around 7-8k gold too (and thats without even buying the Kurenai mounts).
However I do think getting 75 mounts would be easier (for me) than getting 75 pets.
I already have 56 mounts without buying the 8 Kurenai mounts I can buy, one of my engineering ones, Refer a friend I need to claim, the 4 in Dalaran, etc.
To be fair the pets might be doable, but I feel less comfortable about paying a user 1000gold for a pet than I do paying an NPC for a mount...

Am I the only one who thinks "Lil' Game Hunter" is a very strange name for a minipet-related achievement?
Amaxe Jan 10th 2009 5:15PM
You don't think we keep these animals out of the goodness of our hearts, do you? ;-)
BillDoor Jan 10th 2009 4:53PM
Woot, already there.
Molly Jan 10th 2009 5:19PM
Yay, I'm on WoW Insider! Too cool :)
Rilgon Jan 10th 2009 6:17PM
Borderline unethical, right?
Amaxe Jan 10th 2009 6:23PM
Looking at the WoW pet site, I just don't think I can pull it off. Even if I did the Blackrock ones, the Children's week ones, the last rep one (Sporeggar), respecced to engineering and farmed the AH for the 1000g+ whelplings, I would be short without the Blizzcon and the Special edition pets.
I have theoretically 2 more pets I can get from oracles, but unless they are planning to add more, it seems to be impossible for me to do this one
rosencratz Jan 10th 2009 10:09PM
The rare drop pets should be needed imo.
These achievements exist to reward pet collectors.
Fireflies,Whelplings, Disgusting Oozes etc are all fair to be required.
I think TCG,Blizzcon and super rare dungeon drops however shouldn't be.
The blackrock depths ones though are well worth the trip,i solo'd it with my lock at 70 when it was somewhat of a challenge still and i couldn't believe i'd never been there before. Good bit of sight seeing to be done there.
That said i've only realised recently that you can get more than one croc, i stopped when i got chuck.
I wonder if we'll get another set of Dalaran pets for this years Children's week.
Amaxe Jan 11th 2009 12:30AM
Oh I agree it is fair to include the rare drops. It wasn't intended to sound like a QQ over it. I'm just not sure how I can get to this requirement since I don't plan to do the cards and don't have the collector's edition.
I agree that these collectors/conventions/card ones should not be required for the count
I just can't see how I can get over 65-70 based on what is available now and what I see on the WoW pet site.
I don't know what will be done for Children's week. I have a pet each for Vanilla and TBC, with two more each. it would be interesting if they added a new one for LK as well.
