A walking tour around the Roleplaying realms

The sights range from the disgusting (you get offered to cyber by just being a lowbie and hanging around Elwynn, apparently), to the boring (there is some really, really bad vampire RP), to the fascinating (some of the character descriptions are very well written, and use some commonplace ingame gear to portray a character's backstory very well). There's no judging involved -- it's basically a (pretty) objective survey of what RP players are doing on RP servers lately. Even if you're not an RPer, it's an interesting read (though some of the images and situations are NSFW, depending on where you work).
There's more info in a Q&A on the journal, including a plan to possibly do some group RPing, but just the idea of surveying what's out there is cool. There is so much happening on the realms (in terms of RPing and grouping and PvPing), and even here at WoW insider we can only document so much of it. Definitely cool to get another look inside what players are coming up with (no matter how weird or boring or wild) on the realms.

As a member of one of the middle aged RP servers (Thorium Brotherhood) and a reader of wowgossip's LJ, I must say I'm glad to see RP is getting some attention.
Wowgossip hasn't don't a Thorium Brotherhood tour that I'm aware of, but she'll likely find Alliance side struggling and depending on the night, Horde side is pretty barren in SMC and Brill as well.
Thorium Brotherhood tends to have specific places and times where people will attend RP Taverns or gatherings more than a lot of random RP. Horde side has more RP in general, but as a lot of that has now moved to Dalaran, it's difficult to find it in the low levels very often.
Tho Bro suffered from a mass Alliance side RPer exodus about eight months ago where everyone just sort of gave up and transferred elsewhere. It's sad really, but as I enjoy the few people that are left, I just can't bring myself to leave.

it's absolutely ridiculous. All this person does is visit Goldshire and Silvermoon, two established "erp" slums of any server, and now wowinsider gives her validation for her B.S. "experiment"?
Not to mention she doesn't bother attempting to start any RP, just waits for someone to walk up to her little random nobody alt level 1 and care why she's just standing there doing nothing?
Every time we get a whiner on the realm forums claiming "noone ever RP's with me ;_;" it's because they never actually try to initiate any "good" rp themselves. Giving her crappy observations any attention by wowinsider is just letting her throw bad judgements onto good servers.

Direct from the Q&A linked...
"Q) Why Goldshire/Silvermoon/Stormwind/Brill ?
A) Because these are universal locations on every sever. Yes, I know these locations have a bad reputation. However, to be fair to every server and try to create an even perspective of each servers 'culture' I need to use locations that offer the same opportunities as all others. Also, on a lvl 5 alt, I can't get locations such as Dalaran :( . If you look at the tours, every server is NOT the same. Goldshire and other locations do in fact vary per server.
Take a moment to compare, look around. Don't beleive me, tour yourself. What will you find? Please do share."
Also, theres no clear judgement that I have seen so far. Judgements are on the reader.

I really like her site, but I personally find her claim that she isn't giving a review of the rp on the servers she visits more than a little specious. Sure, she doesn't explicitly say, "I found the rp on server A to be better than server B," but she's clearly evaluating both the quantity and the quality of the rp on the servers she visits, whether she admits it or not.
Frankly, I don't think there's anything wrong with doing that, even if she ruffles some feathers. It would be really helpful for someone to go out and evaluate rp servers based on some clear criteria. Her methodology isn't the best, but I think she's on the right track if she ever decided to move in a consciously evaluative direction.
