Breakfast Topic: Identity Crisis
Once upon a time, at the beginning of 2005, just a few months after WoW was released, The Spousal Unit made the switch and traded in his Dwarf Paladin for a Tauren Shaman and never looked back. He brought a couple other classes up to 70 and made lame attempts at duos with me, but Onnix the Shammy was the only character he really wanted to play. Then Wrath of the Lich King came out. He immediately took Onnix to Northrend and started questing. But he took a brief break to make a Death Knight, so that it could sit and get rest while he leveled his main. He decided to make an Orc because they look good in plate and we picked his name from a Celtic god of death (who ended up being a goddess). He didn't spend much time on the look and didn't care too much about the name because this was just a throwaway character.
Then he decided to burn through the initial quests. He had done some of them in the Beta and thought they were fun. Then he decided to see how fast he could get through Outland. And then, just like the comic above, he took him to Northrend. Next thing we knew, he had taken his DK to 80 before many of his guild's mains.
So, after being identified as Onnix in guild and vent for years, he was now Caillech. New guildies didn't know who to heal or assist in vent. And now his main is an Orc, when he really relates more to Tauren. He changed his name to Onniix, which at least eliminates the confusion during raids, but you can't change your race. Orc instead of Tauren, lame misspelling of name and a tank instead of healer -- he is going through a bit of an identity crisis.
With all of the Death Knights running around, I know there must be more of you going through similar identity issues. Is your main completely abandoned or have you been sharing time with your new favorite class? Or are you one of the few who refuse to even try the hero class?

I'm not refusing. I just think I enjoy my warrior more.

So thats what happened to all the Locks?
minttunator Jan 14th 2009 9:25AM
Gothia, that's exactly what happened - most of the locks I know rerolled DK and I can't really blame 'em.
Myself, I rolled a Druid, so I basically went from DOTs to HOTs. =P

My main used to be a warlock, but since Wrath, i changed, like many others, to a DK as a main. It's lvl 80 and i had no trouble lvling it. But when i play my former main, i cant be really interested in lvling it.
And the biggest reason for me is that i can't lvl it, is because i love the feeling of cutting something down, with my awesome 2handed sword.

Yes, the kids that rolled warlocks so they could grief other people on PvP servers quickly jumped to the new OP FOTM class.
PvE locks stayed.

My Lock only made lvl 56 when WOTLK came out. It was enough to unlock my Orc DK and I've not looked back on the Lock. DK is 80 and the Lock has had very little attention.
Now I'm working on a Druid. That looks fun.

Actually, sephirah... I was always a PvE 'lock, and after coming back to wow from being gone for a year (prior to that, I'd played a lock since WoW was in beta) and rolling a DK... well... let's just say I like wearing plate, and still having DoTs

Well this is exactly what happened to me. I had a level 70 Druid and Level 70 Lock - while waiting for wrath had been doing a lot of PvP so I had both with very cool PvP gear on - The lock PvP 70 gear looks sweet (80 not so much).
Anyway with everyone running their 70s in Outland, I thought I would try the death knight - ended up doing an all nighter - Had to fly out for a meeting the day after the release. Anyway I hit 60 with the DK. When I got back I wanted to see how the quests would be in outland - blew through it. By the time I hit 68 and was popping to outland, my guild members were at 72 - 74. I caught them around 77 and just out of respect for the one guild member, waited on 1 bubble to go 80 after him.
So now my main is a DK, I have my lock to 71 and my druid is almost - I drop back and play them a bit, but now at 80 I am constantly looking for heroics.
The druid was my first long drag to 70, learning about alot of things. My Lock was next and I leveled him quite fast since I was familiar with the quests. I have been on wow for just over a year now, so I never had a long long time dedicated to a toon. I am torn I would like to level my druid and lock, but it's hard not to rep grind and run heroics for emblems.

Yeah I did the DK thing first, got it to 80 no problem. It was fun and melee has usually been more my thing. I discovered I was wrong. Once I raided a couple times on him I went "hey, these are some long fights, I wonder what affliction can do to them?". And promptly leveled my real main warlock up to 80.
Warlock has been my main since I started in Jan '05 and I was just not ready to let it go.

well, I seem to be the odd man out, i still play my lock and love him very much. i leveled one level a day after wrath and was the 8th in my guild to 80. i've never really gotten into pvp on my lock, so i don't really care about us being horrible at it. (even tho i do have three =pieces of deadly gladiator from heroic archavon. i've played a DK, but i find leveling on him slow compared to FG/SL and without better gear i can't even solo some of the quests i soloed at lower levels on my lock. for right now i have a DK parked at 65 leveling his proffessions.

My main was a feral druid in BC. I rolled a DK for fun after I hit 71 on my bear.
My DK hit 80 in 4 days and has completely taken over my play time. Like a feral druid, I can DPS and Tank with the same toon by changing out gear.
I enjoy my DK so much I started blogging about it. http://omenscourge.blogspot.com
As for my Druid, it is now a tree and still only level 71 though I did get 4 bars of rested XP healing Nexus last Saturday.
Jorge Jan 12th 2009 1:03PM
EXACTLY the same here. My main was a NE Druid that I've been playing for 2 years now, and when I hit 71 I said "hey, let's give this DK thing a try" .. and never looked back.
My DK Niflheim (Quel'Thalas Server US) just hit 80 a couple of weeks and I'm working in my professions now. As for my druid, well, I paid for a recustomization and is now a she, different name (Areliah, was Jorges) and will be a tree (right now she's feral).
I'll start leveling her in the next few weeks, and will change my DK name to Jorges when the 3 month period has passed (feels a little akward that my guildies keep calling me Jorges lol).
Chris Ambrose Jan 12th 2009 2:39PM
I leveled up my dk to 80, raided with him for a couple of weeks, then decided he is lame as hell, just not a good fit for me. I decided to go back to my sham, and he should ding 80 today. I'm surprisingly more excited to raid with the sham than I ever was with the DK.
Kuroyume Jan 12th 2009 8:14AM
My prot warrior main, who got to 80 first, sits for most of the day, only coming out to tank raids, while my mage alt gets to do heroics and stay active most of the time. My DK is 72, waiting for cash to pay for professions and flight when the time comes...
ROB13 Jan 12th 2009 8:15AM
I play on my alt's depending on my mood and who I think will be more fun. Like today I wook up and want to do some stabbin n' killin, so either rogue or Dk today
Axolotl Jan 12th 2009 8:15AM
No Identity crisis here, I just like my Deathknight better then my paladin, and I don't do raids or instances (since I find they generally cost me Gold in stead of making me Gold)
My Deathknight Dinged 80 halfway through the quests of Grizzly Hills and the grind to get to 5000 Gold to get 300 flying skill was a realy short one ... now about those mamoths ...
damon Jan 12th 2009 8:25AM
I keep juggling my old shaman and my new warrior as equally as i can. My buddies are starting to call me by a portmanteau of the two names. They'll probably have to add a syllable once my death knight hit northrend.
Full Metal Jan 12th 2009 8:25AM
I have these all the time.
I played my Rogue to 70 and the got into a druid and I was et on making him Balance so I named him "Pewpewkin" shortly after 40 I realized I can't play a caster.
At that point I had been watching the Wow Hobbs videos and decided to play a Paladin which I got to 70 and spec Holy, went Shockadin and realized that I wanted a Female Boold Elf Pally and not a male one. So I rerolled and leveled my second paladin slower w/ Profs, Cooking, Fishing, The works.
So I took my Female BE pally to Northrend and got to end game content 10 epics in I start to stop kidding myself and realize "I'm Gimp". Mainly because my brother speced Resto on his Druid and was healing stuff out of my ability because Paladin healing crap.
So I Rolled a Warrior, Arms, after reading a thread on the forums about...
Tieria Jan 12th 2009 8:26AM
I enjoy my Death Knight, but I tend to play him in spurts, mainly because I promised to level him with a friend who has the attention span of a flea and only "remembers" to log on about twice a week. My two main characters are still my hunter and my resto druid.
Full Metal Jan 12th 2009 8:27AM
Their PvE DPS. After I hit 48 I just sorta put him down one day and came back to my hunter I made about a year ago. And for the last two weeks it's been the Hunter. I might stick with this time who know?
But hey, What's the Rush?
