Clams getting more special treatment
Clams took this site by storm last week. 98 comments on a post about clams? Yes, sir!
The clam issue itself is simple to understand: Blizzard is updating a relatively obscure area of the game in patch 3.0.8 while ignoring other problems. At least that's what some people think. Truth be told I'm not sure where I stand on the issue. I can see how updating clam stacking is easy programmatically and fixes a small annoyance for some players. But at the same time I can see where people are upset that larger issues are not being addressed.
Massive Pwnage makes light of the situation in a comic posted today. "World of Warcraft: Ground-breaking changes with every patch," reads the subtitle.
The comic gets my stamp of approval, and gave me a good chuckle this afternoon when it came through our tip line. Be sure to head over there and check out the larger version.
This is so much easier!

NO ONE PLAYS WOW FOR CLAMS

I really hope they take the clam change out, just to piss people off and make them more appreciative of the hard work that goes into this game.
Shut up about the clams already!

I don't see it as a failure to "focus on more important issues". For me, the pattern that patch 3.0 started if obvious: Blizzard wants to make leveling up through old world content much easier. And lets be honest, there are a lot of old world quests that deal with clams of some type. So fixing this bug is just part and parcel of that larger strategy.
Does it do anything for level 80 raiders? Heck. no. But STFU already, the game doesn't revolve around your needs.

since i just learned how to make dalaran clam chowder, I PLAY WOW FOR CLAMS.
also, are we ever going to see another cooking article? dalaran clam chowder sounds tasty!

Make clam chowder.
Mix in Purple Food Dye.
Dalaran Chowdah
Ametrine Jan 13th 2009 7:16AM
Would you really willingly eat something that looked like that? I mean, Clam Chowder is funny-looking enough as is, but the stuff from Dalaran is BLUE AND GLOWING.

Never had green potatoes on St. Patrick's Day?
Frank Jan 13th 2009 9:04AM
i would totally eat some blue glowing food. just because.

In all honesty, I think this is a good change, and there's going to be QQing about other things not getting fixed in every patch.
I was raising my cooking and it sucked that the clams didn't stack and I had to manually stack the meat. That's just stupid.

Honestly? I hope Blizzard go through and make sweeping changes to the old-world content. It's ridiculous that the two expansions contain content that's vastly superior to the new player experience.
Kaelendra Jan 13th 2009 4:36AM
Would be nice though also pricy for them to do. Certainly though how many people never make a alt?
Keyra Jan 13th 2009 8:50AM
I agree that they need to go through the Old World content and clean things up a bit. I created an Alliance alt the other day and was getting my quests, one of which took me into Darnassus to speak with the Explorer's League dwarf (part of the "Absent Minded Prospector" quest chain) - he still says to take the boat from Auberdine to Menethil Harbor.
Now while this is just an oversight, it is still something that needs to be fixed. I knew that the boat now went to Stormwind, but would a new player know this?

Many people are just plain good old fashioned stupid.
That is not a comment local to this issue, that is just a rule you should really just apply to EVERY aspect of your life.
Assume it. Live with it. Profit from it. Love it.
It ain't goin' nowhere.
Clam update. Probably changing a single flag on the item type to "stackable" or some such. More clams in new content, more need for cooking and other stuff.
Why not?
Krick Jan 13th 2009 12:35AM
Sure... the CLAMS stack now.
But, why doesn't the meat automatically stack when you open them?

this.
absolutely confuddling.
Tenchan Jan 13th 2009 3:47AM
Supposedly, that'll be fixed in the patch.
... no idea why it had to. Maybe that line of code is hidden deeper in some more chaotic block of code, so it was overlooked? *knows not*
Muse Jan 13th 2009 12:44AM
Clams are OP.
Kassius Jan 13th 2009 12:45AM
Just let the Clam thing die. "FAiled Experiment anyone?"
badjoke Jan 13th 2009 12:48AM
It's stupid that people are thinking it takes away development time. For each item there's probably a set of values and they most likely just spent the 5 seconds to change "Can_Stack?" to "=TRUE".
sickbox Jan 13th 2009 1:19AM
Exactly what I was going to say. They didn't HAVE to let people know they were doing it, but someone wrote it in the patch notes anyway because I'm sure everyone in the game has had this impact them at some point even if they didn't care about the extra bag space being used.
