I'm sure that many people pick a race for the racials. I know for certain that I would have a gnome death knight if they benefitted at all, ever, from the increased Int. Throughout the rumor phase, I was severely hoping that they would be more magical and share paladin loot design, so that I could justify the gnome.Humans and Orcs have expertise, which pegs you to a specific weapon type and is worthless to you if the good weapon that happens to drop is not of the type to benefit you. Still nice, granted. Orcs also have the pet damage bonus, so you'd think more people would play up the axe and ghoul style, but apparently not.My guess is that a lot of death knights saw this as an opportunity to overcome the tank shortage. Night elves have a massive 2% racial chance to be missed by physical attacks; I'm surprised they aren't more popular. Blood elves have the incredible 2% chance to avoid any spell, which given the death knight declared specialty of magic tanking, makes their mere 30% entirely justified.

Orcs also have Blood Fury which can increase a DK's dps by about 20% for the given duration. You also have increased damage with your Ghouls aswell as gargoyle. 15% stun timer reduction is always nice, and you have skill with axes which is a good weapon choice for DKs.What do Blood Elves get? a 2 second silence that is dwarfed by the tauren warstomp and a whole 2% magic resistance. 2% magic resistance can be achieved with a single piece of gear.Honestly, I don't know why Blood Elves are STILL popular. I knew they'd be overplayed for the first couple months of Burning Crusade. But now it seems everyone wants to get their grubby hands on one.But I need to give Blood Elves some credit (since I play Alliance) because they've done more damage to the horde since BC then the Alliance has since the first war, so well done.

322 attack power yields a 20% increase to DPS? Also, I'm fairly certain that the improved pet damage from the Command racial trait does not affect gargoyle, as it is not a pet (it does not have a command bar, so it is either a minion or guardian).
