"Gotta Go" getting easier
I like the heroic dungeon achievements a lot. They give you something to strive for if you're bored if the instance, or just want an extra challenge. I recently had a great time getting Zombiefest! in what would have otherwise been a pedestrian CoS clear (not enough DPS to try for the timed boss; we were running with some fresh 80s and a Holy paladin DPSing).
However, some of the achievements are currently though to be near-impossible. One that is often talked about is Gotta Go!; typically, it's Anub'arak's burrowing that throws attempts off. Good news to those of you working towards your Red Proto-Drake: the time limit on Gotta Go! is being doubled to four minutes in 3.0.8. Many groups were getting quite close to two minutes before, so this change ought to make it relatively easy.

Doubling the time limit? Will it even be possible to *not* get the achievement just by killing him normally?
peagle Jan 14th 2009 9:33AM
Have to agree with this, what kind of "Achievement" is 4 minutes?
Andrew Jan 14th 2009 6:08PM
They double the limit on this achievement but leave Rapid Defense at 2 minutes? It just needs 15 seconds to bring it in line with the other 2 bombing missions and also make it not-impossible.

Blizz is catering to casuals again. This is a slap in the face! =P

Try bad players insted of casuals

When Blizzard puts out achievements, a lot of the time they are either ridicilously too high or too low. I don't think they even know how to do a happy medium between the two.
But it has nothing to do with casuals. People love throwing out half assed comments from thin air because they feel the need to blame someone else. It’s Blizzard’s game and they’re making the call, you have no one to blame but the source for good or bad.

@minttunator says "catering to casuals" and
@niko says "bad players"
Neither of you mention whether you've gotten the "gotta go" achievement yet, or even attempted it. I've burned a couple of hours working on this achievement unsuccessfully and my group has not been able to crack 3 minutes yet. However, we haven't tried any special group stacking either -- just the same folks who have done a bunch of other heroic achievements together. This change might feel a little more like a nerf if it wasn't for the fact that every poster here that says "I found the achievement quite easy" then goes on to spend two or three paragraphs describing their particular group composition. I didn't see anyone who had done it with a healer ( I play a priest), but who knows, maybe if I leave between the second and third boss and respec shadow?
None of the other heroic achievements seem to exclude certain classes or require a respec -- I've still got a handful left besides "gotta go" so I haven't seen them all yet. So the criticism that "hey, its meant to be hard" rings hollow to me because class stacking is going in the opposite direction that Blizzard has been advocating. The more likely explanation is that someone at Blizz didn't do the math on how long the burrows take and now they are overreacting by doubling the time.
Khass Jan 14th 2009 9:21AM
Pity, should've just increased it by 30-45 seconds so healers could get it; now it's just way too easy.
Mastique Jan 14th 2009 9:26AM
Since when does easy=bad? I mean, I am all for a challenge, but then, I never was very competitive. I personally don't care that other people have better gear than me, or special mounts, etc. I play the game for me. My enjoyment. Not what I can show off standing in Dalaran while gawkers ooo and ahh at me stroking my epeen. Just my 2cents.
Dah Jan 14th 2009 9:28AM
Except that this really is a nearly impossible achievement that puts restrictions on the group in order to get through it (you will need a bloodlust). Not all instances of making content easier are bad. There will always be situations where difficulty needs to be adjusted. Blizzard tends to make their high achievements on the high side of where they want it to be and lower it as necessary.
(and before anyone mentions Naxx, yes it is easy in comparison to other stuff, but that's how they wanted intro content to be)
Linden Jan 14th 2009 9:31AM
damn those casuals! how dare they enjoy this game. =P
That being said Khass is right - 30 sec would be more than enough. It is nice to have some (non essential) content that has to be worked for, you dont *need* the drake for anything other than looking cool so making it hard to get is reasonable.
Raydrick Jan 14th 2009 9:32AM
Do any of the above even have/tried to get this achievement? It's pretty impossible without the extreme group composition and basically "bugging" the boss into a back and forth taunt fest.
If his burrowing was timed then yeah, it would have been "dumbed down" but he burrows whenever the hell he wants and contrary to popular belief WHEN THE ELITES DIE HE DOESN'T POP UP IMMEDIATELY.
I play resto shammy at 80 and even with heroism and the current DPS fotm classes his burrowing screws up the entire attempt. They could have kept it the same if his phases were timed and reliant on the spawns, but they aren't so quit complaining about a FIX!
peagle Jan 14th 2009 9:35AM
Yes, I have, and 4 minutes is unnecessary. 2:30 or 3 minutes would have still been challenging yet much more viable. 4 minutes isn't an achievement, he'll be dead by then anyway.
Niko Jan 14th 2009 9:36AM
I suppose u are full T7 T7.5 for u to be able say imposible
rudeboidl Jan 14th 2009 9:36AM
You need lust and Curse of tongues/Slow and you'll get it.
Hal Jan 14th 2009 9:41AM
I'm confused. Didn't this writer just put up a post on how fresh 80s shouldn't be running heroics?
Reebz Jan 14th 2009 9:45AM
Yes, but he isn't praising this change. The final sentence he actually comments what the rest of us already know: its going to become a lolchievement.
Secondaidkit Feb 2nd 2009 2:07PM
Read the whole statement instead of just a 6 or 7 word phrase. He didn't say anything about them doing it on normal instead of heroic because of the fresh 80s, he was specifying that they weren't going after the timed aspect of it, which if I was in a group of fresh 80s, I would throw the timer out the window as well.
Besides, another factor you choose to ignore is the epic dps that we all know healers are loved for.
Read what the guy wrote instead of trying to dig too deap to figure out "what he's really saying".
Reebz Jan 14th 2009 9:43AM
@Dah:
Nearly impossible?
No, I've seen quite a few Red Protos on my server already and about 4 of my guildies are only a couple of achievements away from getting one.
These are hardcore players though and as it should be, they are rewarded.
Personally, I'm no where near getting a Red Proto, but I'm unhappy with this change. There is no long-term picture here, no foresight.
Every man and his dog will probably have a Red Proto when better gear starts flowing with Uldar.
Jeramy Jan 14th 2009 9:48AM
It looks like about 90% of these people have never actually tried to get the achievement.
4 minutes is nothing to scoff at. I've run AN many times, and while I can get below 4 minutes, it takes a relatively well-geared group, good DPS, and luck with the burrows. As for the "leave it the same" people... you *clearly* have no clue what it takes to beat him in under 2 minutes. The only real reliable way I've see requries 4 DPS and a few mages to spell-steal some buff from Storm Peaks. I hardly think that falls under what the devs intend anyone to do to get ANYTHING.
I hate the overwhelming and overpowering group of WoW players that are never satisfied, and constantly gripe about everything. You really make the rest of us look bad.
